Extraordinary accommodation experience”

Service, Style & Character

We were looking for a heritage B & B for out first trip to Penang for a few nights at the end of a long pan SE Asia Holiday. After reading the reviews on Campbell House both on Trip Advisor and Agoda we felt there was no need to look further. This boutique B &B/Hotel really deserves its accolades and high review score. Rarely does accommodation live up to expectation; rarer still is to find somewhere that exceeds expectations especially when it is as well reviewed as Campbell House is. I'm not going to review facilities available as these are more than covered by other reviewers. I'm simply going to say that if you want a superb accommodation experience in a beautifully restored heritage building with outstanding and friendly service, then don't look any further than Campbell House. Nardya & Roberto have created something truly special here and as the wind down to a hectic tour, this was sublime. After 4 nights, we left feeling relaxed, pampered and loved. Their restaurant, Il Bacaro was great for the included breakfast and despite the fantastic food choice available everywhere in Penang, we ate a dinner and a lunch here as well because it is such a good restaurant. Highly recommended - we will go back to Penang purely to stay here. Keep up the good work Roberto, Nardya and team!

Strong recommendation in Georgetown”

Great location, service and food

I've stayed two nights over Campbell House Penang and this is a strongly recommended boutique hotel in Penang. Their staff are all very helpful, nice and hosptiabale. Our luggages did not come with us by the time we arrived at Penang, but the staff in the hotel are all very kind to help us call the airport luggage service again and again to check the luggage status. Though the travelling has an awful start without the luggage, but the people here has changed my impression. Sincere gratitude to them for all the help. Besides the great service, I also recommend this hotel for its nice location. It located in the center of Georgetown. If you have the interest in exploring the old city and the famous street arts and street foods,Campbell House is definitely a first-choice. All these places of interest can be reached by walk, very easy to find. Last but not the least, their breakfast is fantastic tasty and rich. It can be compared with the 5-star hotel breakfasts without doubt. I would definitely choose Campbell House again if I return to Penang next time.

One of the best heritage boutique hotels in Penang”

Location, quality, service

spent two nights here based on the quality of agoda reviews. have previously tried out many, many boutique hotels in penang over the course of the past two years. the hotel is a corner lot along campbell street, and is run, as is a common trend nowadays, a family that has migrated here and decided to call penang their home. what this brings is a different perspective in operating a business such as this, and it does bring in qualities that several other local boutique hotels lack. campbell house is tastefully done. it isn't garish like a few other places, it doesn't overly play up colonial heritage card but still retains enough to distinguish it as something different, while mixing in the owner's background and nicely hits the rustic note while still looking and feeling new (for now). there is no elevator, and heavy luggage is hauled up the central stairwell with a pulley & rope system. shoes are also not permitted upstairs. the reasonably large rooms are well appointed with the expected flat screen, select astro channels, minibar, safe and other standard amenities. the treat, however, was a comfortable bed almost as wide as it is long, as well as a generously sized bathroom. there is room to move about, and little touches such as the complimentary home-made ice lemon tea and chocolates in the fridge, the fresh juice welcome drink and the nespresso machine sets this place apart. there are two different types of pillows supplied to cover most preferences, and road noise is minimised with double glazed windows as well as thick curtains, wooden shutters and the set of original glazed glass windows. there is a beautiful little reading room with dvds available. breakfast is served downstairs in the italian restaurant. surrounding the hotel, the city is alive with food and sights. it does become a bit quiet and dark at night, and that is good as the outside noise drops, but bad as safety can be an issue. noise from creaking floorboards above can be a big

Hotel with great location and impeccable service”

Friendly staff and nice rooms

Our 3 nights' stay at Campbell House was truly the highlight of our trip to Penang. The moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly by Nadya and her team. We were served freshly made juices and given a short guide on traveling around Penang. The room that we stayed was spacious and clean and the toiletries provided were of the highest quality. On top of that, every room comes with a Nespresso machine, iced tea, tea bags and iced water with no extra charges. There was also a DVD player to keep us entertained on days that we decided to laze indoors. Roberto and Nadya also went the extra mile by providing little daily treats and that really excited and surprised us. Breakfast was awesome with generous serving of fruits, breads, eggs and etc. The moment you finished your coffee, you will be asked if you want another cup. The attention to detail is unmatchable in every sense. During one of the evenings, we decided to try out the in-house restaurant and I must say this is a restaurant that you must not miss. Generous servings of authentic Italian cuisine at an affordable price. You got to try it yourself. Campbell House really stands out from the rest with its great service and attention to its guests. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and stay here again if I were to revisit Penang.

One of the best boutique hotel experiences!”

Amazing staff, location & design

Campbell House is one of the best boutique hotels we have stayed in. The location in Georgetown is great, within easy walking distance to most of the sights, right in the heart of all of the fabulous food options that Penang has to offer. The Loft room (Rose) was spacious, bathroom well equipped and all beautifully designed and decorated. The entire hotel was fitted out and decorated with great aesthetic, in keeping with the charm of Georgetown and Penang. Breakfasts were a real treat, fresh juices, fruit, cooked breakfasts very delicious and croissants to die for! The owner, Nardya, is lovely and the staff are all fantastic. Campbell House is absolutely delightful and we will definitely be back!

Fantastic stay”

The stay in Campbell house Penang ws above my expectations.. do take note.. each room is of a different theme that won't burn a hole in ur pocket... room rates were reasonable as compared to similar concept... Everything is within walking distance... the street looks decent unlike some places whereby the moment u walk out of the hotel, literally nothing within the vicinity... Room style is acceptable, with slight touch of modern equipment. Friendly staffs, just approach n ask them, they will try their best to accommodate. Unlike other hotels that I have been to... Campbell house Penang leaves a lasting impression....

Charming Boutique Hotel”

Service, location, individual style of the rooms, and private rooftop terrace

Loved this boutique hotel, great location in the heart of Georgetown. The hotel is stylishly designed with local artwork and eclectic decor, adding to the charm. Beautiful antique furniture throughout. Comfortable bedding made for a good nights sleep. Escape the busy streets of Penang and retreat to the private rooftop terrace for a romantic sunset cocktail. From the moment we arrived until the moment we departed, Nardya and Roberto and their team made us feel like we were at home. Excellent concierge services - providing insightful information about the area and the amazing restaurants. They made sure we made the most of our time during our (too) short visit. We have already rebooked our next stay at Campbell house to enjoy more of vibrant Penang.

Absolutely the best hotel experience!”

Immaculately clean, enviable decor, beautiful bathroom, exquisite bed

My husband and I stayed at the Campbell House for 2 nights this August. We were instantly pleasantly surprised by the Campbell House upon arrival. Every detail was looked after, from the beginning of our stay until the very end. I didn't want to leave! Having been traveling frequently over the last few months, this hotel is the standout. We felt looked after by the staff, guiding us through our restaurant picks and advising us on how best to tour the city. They took care of us making sure we had transport and providing us an early breakfast in our room before our early departure. I personally loved the Nespresso coffee maker, the tea and water they provide, the evening chocolate, the bath products (especially the oil!) and the luxurious bath towels. The bed and linens were comfortable and the decor I wanted for my own house! I could not detect a single fault with this hotel experience! I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Georgetown.

Perfect in everyway - a must in Georgetown”

Best Service, the entire hotel is very stylish, room is clean and on the big side, breakfast is superb.

Campbell House was literally the highlight of my Penang trip. This is one of the best hotels I've stayed in so far. Service is really good, their staff is very friendly and informative. The hotel is very classy and super clean. Room is big with high ceiling and comfortable bed. Only one minor fault is that you can still hear some traffic noise at night given that the room is one the first floor. Besides the sumptuous breakfast, their iced lemon tea is really delicious. If I would ever visit Georgetown again, I would definitely stay at Campbell house again.

A Home away from home !!!”

(1) People-Attentive, Helpful and Very Friendly Staff, (2) Experience-Unqiue Room with warm Hospitality, (3) Location-Good eateries around

Of all the hotels that I have ever stayed around the world, I would rank Campbell, as amongst the few where I would give 100/100 in almost every aspects. Unlike typical big hotel chains with full fledged facilities such as pool or gym, Campbell makes up for that, by its unique experience & charm of staying in a refurnished shop-houses and most importantly the people. Each room at Campbell has its unique theme / concept with modern days amenities (e.g. Nespresso Machine, Bottled Ice Water & Ice Tea being refilled everyday, and upon request at any time), a charming library and roof top garden. The Hotel Manager (Kumar) and literally everyone working in the hotel (from the servers in the Italian restaurant to the security guard and cleaners) is extremely helpful and friendly. Kumar went all the way out to explain the places of interests, restaurants, etc worth going and how to get there. It's the human element that makes our stay an extremely pleasant and memorable one! I would definitely recommend this charming hotel to anyone seeking for a unique experience from those branded/big name hotels ... Would definitely stay there should I visit Penang again. Kudos to the team at Campbell !

special hotel in a special city”

very comfortable, stylish room and great service too!

campbell house is one of the most memorable hotels my wife and i have ever stayed at, and we travel a lot. nardya and roberto made us feel at home from the moment we arrived (hot, dusty and late). it was like stepping into an oasis of calm, where everyone treats you like family (and serves up much needed gin & tonics). seriously though, the dark wood floors, high ceilings, and artful decor create a soothing ambiance right in the heart of penang. juices and flavored teas come with the room, as do daily desserts. the owners are always ready with great food and sightseeing recommendations, and serve up wonderful fare themselves. the rooms are beautiful, comfortable, and full of added touches. during one day of our three day stay, my wife was under the weather and the entire staff of the hotel went above and beyond to make sure she was well cared for. i can't say enough about campbell house -- i just wish there were more places like it.

Nardya, Roberto and the team + location.

Upon arriving we knew this would be an unforgettable experience. From Nardya receiving us and the relaxing feel of the establishment, it makes you feel like you're visiting a distant relative... felt a bit of a stranger yet so welcoming and homely. Stayed in the Colonial Suite amongst others and we find the room simply elegant. Breakfast is included in our stay and though it was nothing fancy it was good. Exploring Georgetown couldn't be easier as Campbell House is smack in the middle of everything, walking distance to places of interest and delicious local food (street and coffee shop). If you're the type of traveller who's looking for a unique experience, you just can't go wrong with Campbell House. p/s: thanks for the flower arrangement in the room.

Sinmply the best hotel we have ever stayed at”

Location, staff, rooms, mod cons.

My wife and I both work in travel and get to travel a lot. As a result, it takes a lot for a hotel to blow us away but Campbell House managed to do just that. Open for just over a year, the place is amazing. We were met on arrival by Daniel, who proved to be incredibly helpful, friendly and funny. He gave us two maps and loads of advice about where to eat, what to see and the things he loves about Penang. Everything he said was spot on too. We stayed in the Rose Room, which was incredible, spacious and a great combination of olde colonial style and little mod cons (like an ipod dock, expresso machine, DVD player, mini fridge). I don't have sufficient space here to list all the great things about this hotel and we regret only having booked two days before spending our final day at the Hard Rock Hotel in Penang. We will be back.

Wonderful Boutique Hotel run by Great People”

Great nights sleep , spotlessly clean suite, Incredibly helpful staff

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Campbell House in Penang. We regularly stay in Boutique style hotels in different countries. Campbell house is up there with the best. Roberto and Nadia are world class operators and very hands on. They really know how to run a boutique style hotel. The staff are trained very well and attentive to every detail. Their English is good so communication was not a problem. We stayed for a week and had a great nights sleep every night. The suite was spotlessly clean. The genuinely authentic renovation is a credit and particular in every detail without trading off comfort, or modern amenities. All in all , a terrific experience.

A fantastic, room in a seamlessly run boutique hotel. The perfect stay in Georgetown

Everything about the Campbell House is laudable. The rooms are decorated tastefully and everywhere you look in the hotel you'll find something special, interesting and meaningful. The Venetian restaurant on the premises serves the best panacota we have ever tasted. The Torresella Refosco is a must try wine. Everyone, from the proprietors to the chamber maids where very friendly, professional and helpful, they give the impression that they do care about the guests and the place, and they will happily advise on different culinary spots which you must pay a visit to before leaving Penang. The whole house has a fantastic vintage feeling throughout and they even have a rooftop beautifully arranged with sofas and cushions. The location is also perfect and you can walk everywhere. All in all, a 10 out of 10.

Themed Rooms”

Campbell House is a lovingly restored shophouse boutique hotel. With only 12 rooms, the staff know every guest in a personal way. Each room is assigned a name instead of a number. I had the peacock room which was comfy and roomy. Breakfast is served in the Italian restaurant next to the hotel lobby. Lovely food. I had one dinner there and it exceeded my expectation. The hotel is also strategically located for easy access to many of Penang' s attractions. Just a few steps away are food and convenience shop. Getting around is easy by car or on foot. The housekeeping staff comes by in the late afternoon every day with a homemade treat. I thought this is such a nice touch. Really appreciated this! Despite my enjoyment, I do have a couple of gripes. There is a problem with ants in my room. I had to ask for shampoo when I checked in. There was also no shower cap provided.

Super-efficent & accommodating staff, tastefully decorated rooms and central location!

Campbell House totally deserves the high ratings it gets from guests. From the warm greetings of check-in staff to the thematically-named/designed rooms, you know instantly that you're in for a unique experience. The attention to design and décor is a great credit to conservation efforts in the UNESCO site. My family thoroughly enjoyed the throwback to the past in this historical building. Centrally-located, Campbell House is a perfect staging area to explore Georgetown street art, Cheong Tze Fatt Mansion, Khoo Kongsi and other attractions. While you are there, do try out Il Bacaro which is a worthy option if you need a breather from Penang's wonderful hawker fare.

Fabulous Hotel with great rooms, excellent service”

Clean with great service

Campbell house is a heritage hotel and if I have to go back to penang, it is because of this fabulous hotel! We were greeted by Daniel, the very personable and helpful staff. He walked us through the tourist map, gave us suggestions on where to go and how to get there; where to eat and how good or bad the food was. Then, we saw our luggage being carried up to the second floor by a rope and a pulley mechanism. How old world and ingenious. Brown outs or black outs will never ruin your day! The lobby was small and lovely. It is like coming home, but the feel of vacation still in the air. There are only 11 rooms and I have a feeling we got the best one. Our friend stayed near the library and lounge....looking as if he had his own wing. We stayed at the Silver leaf, what can I say but oh so beautiful. The bathroom was nothing like the big hotels, it was very cozy, with very strong water pressure and a rain water shower overhead. A perfect place to relax after a long walk in the city. We had old and new furniture. The refrigerator or bar area did not only contain a pitcher (not bottle) of water but a pitcher of refreshing lemon tea as well. In the evenings, when you get back from your sightseeing and food trip, more food awaits you at your bar. They put in a small surprise for dessert inside the refrigerator. I have traveled a lot and this is the first time I have encountered such a thing...very personal and heartwarming. Their breakfast is from 830 until 12-also a first. They attend to you like royalty and make you feel relaxed while eating and not as if you should soon clear the table for the next client. Breakfast was simple but superb, what with good coffee and fresh fruit blended to your delight. Fresh fruits and bread with jams and butter, your choice of eggs, porridge...everything served to you while you watch local people go about their daily lives. Lastly, the hotel is only 15 minutes to a lot of destinations on foot. Good choice for us!
