Capital Hotel Beijing China ”

Overall appearance. Well staffed. Security gate. Short walk to Tianamen Square and Forbidden City. Exceptionally clean and very courteous staff. Good variety of items in few shops within hotel.
Shop prices a bit pricey for items but found them to be negotiable on pricing for souvenir items, clothing etc. Would be nice to have a few more shops but did not really feel a need for them. The cost per minute was a bit expensive for the computer use in the business center but not excessive.

I stayed at Capital Hotel on my arrival in Beijing for a few days and again on the night before I left after a 30 day vacation in China and a side trip to VietNam. The hotel stay was a pleasant relief upon arrival and the staff was quite couteous and helpful with check in and local information. The rooms were exceptionally well kept and clean. Bottle water was supplied with each room make up. A supply of other drinks was available in each room for a price which was a bit high for the items but there was room in the small refrigerator to place store bought water or soda. The staff at the business center was extremely helpful and made sure that the computers were up and running. The cost was a bit more than some hotels being priced by the minute but the computer service was fast and adequate. On my second stay at the Capital, I had booked my room, in advance, with Agoda, while I was in VietNam and upon arrival and check in it was realized that I had, inadvertently, booked for the correct day but for the following year's date. Staff at the reception counter contacted Agoda and rectified the error so as to cancel the reservation. I was then advised by the staff to go to the business center on their 2nd floor and log onto the computer, free of charge, and book the new reservation on line as it would be less costly. This was accomplished easily and by the time I walked back to the front desk, they had my reservation and room assigned. It was a worrisome check-in that turned into a pleasant experience thanks to the helpful staff. I would strongly recommend the hotel and would stay there again on any other trips to that region of Beijing. Although there are not any tourist attractions in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, it is a short walk to a major shopping area mall as well as Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City sights. There is a subway entrance to the subway system about 5 blocks from the hotel at the end of Tianamen Square.

4 star personal rating when I expected only 3 star”

location, very recent rennovations, okay breakfast, good for business or tourism

I am an academic who stays in a lot of what I would call 3 star businessmen's hotels in Asia (meaning hotels for local businessmen, since most Western businessmen are normally staying in 4 to 5 star international class venues). I was pleasantly surprised by the Beijing Capital, since it was a bona fide 4 star hotel (local star ratings are dodgy in Asia, so you take them with a grain of salt). I think with their recent renovations that they have achieved that mythic "international standard" that all Asian hotels aspire to. The facilities are very good, and the chief difference between the Beijing Capital and a legitimate 5 star hotel would be in the staff. They are helpful but not as plentiful or trained to the standard of a Shangri La or Four Seasons. But the price is a third of those hotels, so I would consider it very good value as is. They seemed to have circa 75% Chinese guests, 25% mostly Western European tourists, and a significant local convention business. I would definitely stay there again, although the hotel is positioned more for the tourist trade (close to Tianamen Square and the Forbidden City) than business. Good metro access (Chongwenmin stop is circa 7-10 minutes on foot; take exit A and keep walking away from the Novotel to head in the direction of the Beijing Capital) too, which is important since Beijing traffic is pretty bad.

2 weeks in The Capital Hotel”

Very big rooms, nice bathroom with all amenities, free water daily, large bed, The hotel itself is very big and well managed, very clean and comfortable with a swimming pool and gym Convenient location to many popular tourist spots such as tian men sqaure (15min walk), Wangfu Jing (15 min walk) and the number 5 and 2 metro line.
very high priced mini bar

upon arriving in Beijing, we were looking forward to our 5 star hotel, although we did have some reservations since the last 5 star hotel we stayed at in Hong Kong was very small (although quite nice). we caught a taxi from the Beijing international airport to the hotel, it costs around $100RMB including a highway tariff of $10RMB and takes around 30-40 mins when we arrived, a bell boy was sent out straight away to help out with luggage, and we were greeted with a very grand and extravagant looking entrance hall. the room itself was quite large, the bed is a bit hard, but since we liked hard mattresses it was ok. the bathroom was very clean and with good amenities such as a bath which is an invaluable asset during Beijing winters. overall our stay at the Capital hotel in beijing was very pleasant, there are only 2 things that i would consider cons, firstly is the lack of (free) wifi, you have to pay around 100rmb per day for internet and you need to use their lan cable to plug into your laptop, second is the ridiculously priced food and drinks at the mini bar and the restaurant. A bottle of water was very expensive, and the breakfast buffet, at 160rmb per person was the most expensive meal we had in Beijing, I would recommend walking 10 mins to the shopping centre next to the New World shopping centre where one can get delicious buns and local delicacies at prices as low as 1rmb

Excellent amenities, location, and service.”

clean and comfortable rooms, central location, western breakfast buffet,

Had absolutely no problems with the Capital's amenities or services. Although I would normally opt for something more modestly priced, I decided to go with the Capital since we were only staying one night and the location is fantastic. The hotel is approximately a 10-15 minute walk away from Tiananmen Square / Forbidden City, and gave us great access to one of Beijing's premier sites without having to navigate the busy city transit system. The staff were plentiful and efficient, making for a speedy check-in / check-out. A woman at the counter next to me was enquiring about tourist sites around the city and the staff serving her were clearly quite knowledgeable about the tourist sites and services and could speak and understand English without any trouble. After a night's rest in a clean and comfortable room, I enjoyed the Capital's western style breakfast buffet. Service for the breakfast began at 6:30 am and I had to pay an additional fee since this was not included in my particular room rate (I believe the price was around 70 RMB, which I found to be not unreasonable, given the quality and selection of the breakfast).

Capital Hotel Beinjing is a great place to stay”

great rates through Agoda for a 5 star hotel. very central location
the Western food is not great

I recently stayed (twice) at the Capital Hotel in Beijing. The location is really good, you can easily walk to Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden Palace, and all the Chinese restaurants near the Square. The rooms are big, very clean and everything works. They have several non-smoking floors, which is great, because everyone everywhere else seems to smoke all the time. We found it really easy to get around from here. The subway is close by and buses and taxis go along the street all the time. The hotel staff spoke English and could easily arrange long distance train tickets, as well as tickets for the Acrobat Show, shaolin warrior monks and Beijing Opera. One of the friends I was travelling with left his expensive watch on the over night train we returned from Xian on and the hotel was fantastic and called to see if it had been found. Amazingly it had been handed in by the railway staff and the hotel sent one of their staff with him to reclaim it. That is not the kind of help you get every day. The kids really appreciated the indoor heated pool and the bowling alley in the basement. Unfortunately the hotel food (with the exception of the very over priced Italian restaurant) is pretty ordinary. Nothing you would actually want to eat, it is over priced etc. McDonalds, Pizza Company etc will deliver to your room if the kids want a break from rice and noodles and there is a really good French restaurant within walking distance.

Capital Hotel Bejing”

Central location, many tourist attraction within easy walking distance. Staff polite, pleasant, friendly and helpful.Large room, clean, spacious and well equipped and serviced.Comfortable beds Excellent bathroom and showers.
Food very expensive. Good buffet breakfast though expensive we had a good breakfast here that lasted us through a day of sight seeing.

We really enjoyed our 5 night stay at Capital Hotel. The location is perfect, we are both in our early 60's and we found areas of interest, ie Tianammen Square, Forbidden City, Parks, Hutongs, Walking streets and Temples within easy walking distance. Hotel facilities are excellent but we did find our only dinner at the hotel was of average quality and very expensive. The staff were always efficent, friendly and helpful. I had the unfortunate experience of the foyer situated ATM swallowing my credit card, but the staff acted immediately and contacted the bank and followed it through with the return of my card within 12hrs.

Would definitely stay there again, very clean. ”

The hotel was very clean

This hotel was centrally located and highly recommended. This hotel is very clean and staff is extremely helpful. The beds were hard but that is typical of beds in China. Also the bathroom tub drained slowly. The carpets is showing it's age in the bedroom but use the slippers they provide for walking around the room. The hotel is located approximately 10-15 mins walk from Tiannanmen Square. The hotel staff will also get you a cab to the Silk Market or major shopping areas. They will even arrange tours to the tourist spots for you. The in-room amenities provided are great and replaced when used. Room service was prompt and food was served at the correct temperature. The food in the restaurants was not great but the service was excellent. I enjoyed my stay at the Capital Hotel in Beijing and I have told all my friends and family about it. I will definitely stay there again if I am ever visiting Beijing.

English speaking staff can be found, extensive breakfast buffet included in our stay

Travelling without a guide makes this hotel very worthwhile. We were able to walk to The Forbidden City, museums, shopping, and gardens. When we needed to go a distance, the hotel staff would print out the location of where we were going and the name and address of the Capital Hotel in Chinese for the taxi drivers. We stayed on the Capital Club floor which gave us access to a free afternoon tea, and another breakfast eating area. The view from the Capital Club was beautiful in the evening as buildings were lit.

Capitel hotel is excellent, centrally located hotel”

It's close to Tianmen square and nearby metro, the room is comfortable, and the the staff members are welcoming and helpful.

My girlfriend and I had a very good stay at Beijing Capital Hotel. The hotel itself is very centrally located, it's close to Qianmen square and the nearby metro (around 10 min walk). The room was very comfortable and cleaned on daily basis during our 5 night stay. The bed wasn't hard like in many other Chinese hotels, and every day there were two bottles of drinking water provided free of charge. If I have to say something negative - there are not many restaurants around the hotel, which could be a problem if the weather is bad. Also, there aren't many western TV channels, but most people don't stay in hotels to watch TV anyway. Overall, my girlfriend and I are very satisfied with our stay at the Capital Hotel, and most probably will stay again if we ever decide to visit Beijing. I will recommend this hotel to my friends, because the price is not too high for the location and comfort in Beijing city.

Capital Hotel Feb 2010”

Very nice hotel. Seven minute walk to the subway. Excellent assistance from the desk and the bell captain. I particularly enjoyed the greeting each morning and evening by the hotel greeter stationed by the elevator. He was very pleasant and had a wonderful cheerfulness. The room was neat and tidy every evening when we returned. The bath was exceptionally clean and well lit.
It seemed as though all of the guests smoked, but that isn't a weakness of the hotel. Our room did not even hint of cigarette smoke. Hard bed, but that is my experience all over China. Carpet was a little worn, but still acceptable.

My son and I stayed in the Capital Hotel for a week. Our rate was very good for such a nice hotel. We were told that we were upgraded to a larger room. I was pleased with the amenities of the room as well as the many attributes of the hotel facilities. A 7 minute walk to the subway and 3 more minutes to a large mall/ shopping complex. Walking the other direction we were within 10 minutes to Tienanmen Square and the Forbidden City. Great location, nice room. I'd recommend the hotel and would stay there again.

Convenient and comfortable hotel”

Staff are helpful and friendly

location is good. just 5-min walking distance from metro station. 15-min walking to other famous spots like tinanmen plaza and forbidden city. you can visit the famous beijing roast duck restaurant--liqian nearby. 7-8mins. room is big, bed is clean and comfortable. air-con, toilet and other stuff are working well. staff are helpful and friendly. just one demerit: i leave in the early morning and request the hotel to call a taxi for me, the bellboy still not come to work because it is 5:15am. the staff then just said i can get any one of the taxi parked at the hotel front door. before i get on the taxi, i have asked the driver if it is counted by meter. he showed me and said "yes yes". however, when i arrived at the airport, he "printed" a receipt to me which costs rmb178.00, (the actual cost should be rmb120, the distance from the hotel is just 40km). the date of the receipt is wrong (my date is 8 jul, and the receipt was 30 jun) and so was the distance = 58km. finally, the taxi driver was so scared, and agreed to deal at rmb100 and left like a rocket. i was extremely disappointed with the hotel staff who told me to trust the taxi driver. beijing, the capital of china, is still an uncivilized city. overall, hotel is good to stay.

Terrific Location and a Beautiful Hotel”

Huge, spread out, wonderful facilities, quality deluxe room, indoor pool facilities

not having ever stayed in a 5 star hotel we have nothing like it to compare to. however, we were very pleased at the service, cleanliness, and presentation of this hotel. very spacious deluxe room, and the normal room service (cleaning, re-stocking) was terrific too. there is an indoor pool that was a bit on the cool side, but it didn't detract from our daughter having fun in it. free, clean, magnet-locked locker room, and clean showers in locker room. several dining options available, the coffee buffet decent, not grand. the 20th floor italian restaurant, though a bit pricey, was fancy enough and tasty, with amazing views overlooking downtown beijing (tiananmen square, part of forbidden city). hotel in excellent location, just a few blocks from above named attractions. we would definitely stay here again!!

Excellent Service”

Excellent service Nice rooms Location
Minibar is very expensive

Capital Hotel is conveniently placed near the train station and a stroll away from the forbidden kingdom and shopping areas. The staff are welcoming and helpful offering a great service. The rooms are pleasent with a large bathroom and luxurious beds. The English spoken here is of a good standard and the staff will assist you in getting around Beijing in terms of the language barrier. Highly recommended.

Always a pleasure”

Good location - not far to anywhere. Capital Club option worth the extra dollars. Staff always friendly and helpful.
Not enough time to fully enjoy the facilities on offer.

Our second stay at the Capital Hotel and would stay again! Capital Club rooms are spacious, pleanty of room to put your shopping! Our booking meant we enjoyed a more private dining experience for breakfast and a calmer start to our day. Due to our busy schedule we only got to enjoy the afternoon High Tea and drinks on one occasion but it was worth the wait. At all times the staff were friendly and attentive, the views from the lounge amazing. Taxi's are very cheap in Beijing, not worth walking and dodging the traffic. The fare is on km's not time. Closeby are markets, shopping centres, resturants and attractions. It was only about AUD20 to the airport.

Great Value for Money!”

Great Price, Great Location, Clean, Comfortable, and Beautiful Rooms. The shower had great water pressure and was the perfect temp for a cold January day. Some English TV channels including HBO. Close to the subways station. A 10 min walk away from T-Square.
You needed to buy a cap for the swimming pool, the sauna was out of service, bowling and everything else that the hotel offered was overpriced. Breakfast was expensive so we didn't try it. Carpet was clean but will need to be replaced in the next couple years. Hard beds but better than most of China!

Overall, Capital exceeded our expectations. We were there in January (It was -25 degrees F with windchill), so we were pleased to come back to the warmth and comfort of Capital. The hot shower was amazing! It was one of the cleaner hotels that we stayed at in China. Also, the bathroom didn't stink like a lot of the places we stayed at. It was nice to relax in the evenings to a movie on HBO or catch up on the news. I know I wrote a lot of cons to this hotel, but none of that really mattered to us since we were so tired from our day of sightseeing to bowl or swim. Also, the hotel was only a walk from Wangfujing and another shopping center, so we didn't mind that breakfast wasn't included. So even though the amenities were expensive, the room was comfortable and the price was low enough to make up for that. Enjoy your stay!

The Dream's Hotel”

Swimming pool, fitness centre and sauna for free
the 100 yuan daily fee for the internet connection appears to be really a robbery in a country where also the 2 star hostels give the connection for free

When you arrive in the hotel, you will think you're in a movie. The beautiful hall is a preview of the class of this hotel. Rooms are clean (really clean, not so easy in this country), big, the bed is the best one i got in the country, the swimming pool is really good and you can have your relax. Anything is perfect in this hotel, and the price i paid is really little for an hotel of this level. A plus i got: i paid a superior room, but when i arrived my room was upgraded to a deluxe ;) I visited several hotels in Beijing, and definitely i suggest you the capitol hotel. I guess is really difficult find another hotel that can offer you much more for the price you can find on the site. Btw, remember that all the services not included have a 5 stars price! Drink a can of coke from the mini bar inside the room will cost 8 or 10 times the coke street price, the laundry service to wash your panties will cost much more than buy a new one, use the internet cost 100 yuan per day, and so on. But if you avoid to use the additional service, i guess the room is really cheap considering the class of the furnitures, the beautiful bed, the number of towels, etc etc.

Value for money ... for (almost) everything”

location; hotel condition; value for money

It may not be up to the five-star standard but is still as good as a four-star hotel. The room is spatial, clean and comfortable. The staff is in general friendly. The location is good - within walking distance to Chongwenmen Subway Station, Qianmen Dajie, Tiananmen Square and Wangfujing, and is accessible to the Forbidden City, Tiantan, Yonghe Lama Temple, Temple of Confucius, Xiushui Street, Beijing Railway Station, etc., within 5 subway stations.

Luxurious and grand, with excellent service”

English speaking staff, clean, luxurious, large rooms

i stayed at the capital hotel, beijing with a group of students travelling around china. the hotel was excellent. with a number of restaurants, as well as recreational activities including the fitness centre, pool, sauna and bowling alley, the capital hotel was always a fun place to stay. it is reasonably close to the underground, and very close to attractions such as tienaman square and the forbidden city. staff at the hotel speak great english and if you are looking for a tour i would highly recommend booking it through them. i had a great day and would recommend it to anyone.
