The property owner is fantastic, very accommodating. I think it's the room that I was in that affected how I rated the property. I'm a non smoker, the room I was in may near the long term stays. They smoked cigars every night, the smoke drifted into my room and it was very unpleasant. there was also a constant "taping" noise that would have kept me awake, but I had noise cancelling headphones to sleep in.

The only pro was the price, but it wasn't that much cheaper than places that would have been much nicer. The property smelt and the alarm didn't work so the property was never secure. No parking for guests. Shared with a mate and the beds were less than 1m apart.

Tidy and quiet place with friendly personnel”
I've spend a week with my girlfriend in the carnarvon lodge. The accommodation is located right next to the harbour bridge with 5 min walk to the train station and convenience stores. Staff was always friendly and helpful. The rooms and floors are well maintained and clean. Only flaw in my opinion are the very limited parking spaces in and around the building. Other than that, I had a very nice stay and I'm sure I will come back again

What a fantastic lodge to stay at. Budget priced rooms. Renovations were taking place so the bathroom was below average but the room was fantastic. Bed was extra comfortable. Tea and coffee and bottled water supplied. Smart tv in the room. The manager was fantastic. Very friendly. Was a pleasant stay will definately be back soon.

at this time i would recommend Carnarvon Lodge to anybody that would expect a better quality of stay having said that as i am a simple man from a poor back ground i would use it again if i had to as i can not afford much more then about 50$ per night no hot water on my second and third nights on of my stay or on the morning i checked out, no towel rack or clothes hooks to hang my cloths in shared bathroom, squeeky bed springs no house pay phone in case of emergency as i dont have a mobile phone smell of old cigarret smoke in the lobby as i am sensetive to it as a non smoker,

The Carnarvon is a great little clean hotel if your wanting a city overnighter with no bells & whistles, rooms are always clean, best rooms are with their own ensuite otherwise you share a bathroom. I use the Carnarvon for overnight city business events, thats what its best for, its not a big player in the city hotel market, but its good value for what it is.

The carnarvon lodge is a cheap option for budget travellers. Walking distance from milsons point on north side of harbour bridge. Quiet location.

Will be better once renovations complete”
I love what they have done with the rooms that have been renovated so far- just a bit unpleasant while certain areas out of action - eg a VERY long walk to the bathroom which has one toilet and one shower in the same room to service entire floor while second bathroom being renovated. To bad if you are busting for the loo when somebody is in the shower! We had booked an ensuite room but it was unavailable due to renovations. Also - some rooms have NO window blinds or curtains - so no privacy when getting changed and the sun shines right in at 5am to wake you up. I know it's budget and we were not expecting much (we've stayed in backpackers), but it's advertised as proving linen - but there was no mattress protector and holes in the sheets. No top sheet -so not sure if the doona cover also gets washed? Finally - booking website advertised parking available - but it's either 2hr parking in the street (unhelpful) or there is ONE spot at rear of lodge for a fee.

Good location, lousy place”
Carnarvon Lodge is not bad just because the location and the price is good. The room is OKish if you're sleeping in the queen size bed but the person sleeping in the bunk didn't like where he's staying. The Chinese community living in the place is loud and lousy (like throwing their leftover rice into the bathroom bin). Place didn't feel secure as you can enter and leave anytime without any key needed. The bathrooms were always wet and felt like they're not being taken care of.

Great area to stay when visiting Sydney”
I was attending a conference close by so the location was perfect for my purpose. The Lodge is near the train station which means it is very accessible. I also enjoyed a walk across the bridge and into the gardens one morning. The staff were helpful, and able to answer quite random questions.

comfortable, quiet, cheap, great location”
Our stay was pleasant. Location is very close by to the train station, only 6 minutes walking distance, great restaurants nearby, 5 minutes walk to Kirribilli lookout to view the opera house, a park closeby, located in a quiet neighbourhood, grocery stores closeby to lodge, shared bathroom was reasonably clean, kitchen was clean.

Budget Hotel with self service ”
This hotel is a Chinese opened hotel, have self-cooking service, has free wi-fi, this is the best point I think. But the room is very small, and need to share the bath room with other people, not so convenient. This is a very quiet place, not so easy to find it. As it is in a quiet place, so it is not so convenient to do shopping. But about 5 minutes walking, there is many food shops for eating. And near the train station. And also there is a dental hospital near it. So, this is a hotel for budget purpose.

good location but pictures online were deceptive”
i took my son on holiday to sydney and on the first night at the hostel i was devoured by bed bugs. the owner was helpful in these circumstances, but this does not detract from the fact that I was bitten quite badly and it ruined the first 2 days of my holiday. after dicusssing the situation with the owner, he immediatley changed the bedding and cleaned the room. this was insufficient and again i was bitten and had to move rooms 2 days later.

No issues were serious as in a dangerous way but serious in the fact it was backpackers quality for far to much money. No staff in attendance after about 5pm. There was no power cord attached to the TV and when asked we were told the Manager would have to fix it. When was the manager coming in? They didn't know. There was no light in the ladies toilet though fixed on complaint. No soap, no electric jug in the room, no coffee, no milk. these are items you'd expect. It was also share bathroom. When we go to Sydney I must admit we look for the cheapest accommodation and we have found some fantastic specials for as little as $89 a night, many we have discovered later have been up to $300 a night when not on special. Many we have returned to but as for Carnavon Lodge, NEVER, terrible stay. If this was cleaner and well run I would have given it a 4 for value for money.

Ideally located near the city”
This was our first of many stays. The area was ideally located near Milsons Point train station and a quick taxi trip late at night. With 3 young women travelling together, the stay was safe, clean, and private. It's a secret that we shall be sharing amongst our colleagues who need to travel into the city from a regional area.

good location but have a badly smell room”
It takes 10 minutes walk from the station. Although it is closed, it would be difficult if you are having a lot of lugguage. when you open the room door, it gets a bit smell. When we booked at Agoda, it said it was an air~conditioning room, but finally it wasn't. But the good thing is our room is next to the restroom for more convenience.
