Great location for convention center”
We arrived the the morning after the night of our reservation- just needed a place to crash for a couple of hours and freshen up after a red eye from the west coast. They were super nice and let us stay until noon. The room was tiiiiiny (even by NYC standards) but the location couldn’t have been better to get to the convention center. Wouldn’t want to stay all week, but was perfect for the night.
I got what I paid for”
Great value for money. The rooms are quite small, but this is New York we're talking about. Staff was courteous, and kind, and very helpful. Best thing has to be the location. Hudson Yards is beautiful and accessible, a great place to stay for a New York weekend getaway.
Hello! Thanks for taking the time to submit a review. Yes, we have a fabulous location! Glad the staff was wonderful. Happy Travels, Mark
Does the basics well”
I stayed at 36 Hudson hotel for four nights this week. The hotel is cleanly maintained with efficient staff. The linen is cleaned/changed everyday and fresh toiletries are provided if required. The room has a coffee maker, hairdryer, TV and iron. The location is fantastic and the whole of Manhattan is easily accessible from here. I would certainly visit again if I am travelling alone. I would not recommend this for families especially as the rooms are small and can get cramped if there is a child in the group. Also, the rooms can be quite claustrophobic for people so inclined but hey, its Manhattan!! Not much space around there to start with!!
Hi There... Thank you for the kind words and advice for others. Hope to see you soon. All the best, Mark
i book the larger room at 30sm hopefully can put 2 pcs of my large luggage but however only 1 luaggage can open the other one cannot.. the housekeeping left the glove in the room without cleaning. and never wash the cup that we use there.. walk to subway need to take 15 min.. walk to times sqaure need 30 min.. the hotel best thing is having a bp station by the side for breakfast n some tidbit.
I was meant to book The Hudson on 58th Street and accidentally - and stupidly - clicked on the wrong Hudson! For the $220 price, this was a rip-off and very disappointing value for money. The major upside and shining light though was the two front of desk staff, who were welcoming, friendly, helpful and professional throughout. Here's to them!
Better hotels available for same price”
Very average hotel. There is a lot better standard hotels in the same area cheaper. Room extremely small, old (step in bath shower very slippery and what anti slip stuff painted in bath is quite small and severely stained), no bar fridge, beds have quite comfortable mattresses except I'm only 5ft 5 and my feet hung over the end. My 2 adult boys struggled sleeping because of the length of the beds, not good . Location says "Times Square" but is a good 15min walk. Dodgy neighbourhood. The only thing going for this place is the front office staff very pleasant with check in/check out seamless. Do yourself a favour and book another hotel. This hotel desperately needs a revamp. For what we paid AUD$300 p/n (stated 1 night) we did not get value for money. Disappointed.
A steal away ”
This hotel, a little fairway from the main Times Square, about ten mins walk, but otherwise nothing could be more than perfect about this hotel. The hotel is clean and the staff were extremely friendly.
Wonderful stay at the Gem!”
We absolutely loved The Gem! It was my daughters 13th bday and the front desk staff had cupcakes waiting in our room when we got back on Friday evening. She was so thrilled and what a nice touch! Jasmine and Ashley were great about directions and always willing to offer advice. Hotel a little off the beaten path, but it's a nice walk to most things and a good value for the price. Will definitely return to The Gem!
GEM Hotel Midtown West”
I enjoyed my stay at The GEM Hotel Midtown West. I was there for a conference at the Javits Center, which was located much closer than I had realized. The hotel itself was small. My room was a decent size for NYC and appeared to me to be clean. The cleaning staff did a nice job on the room, and the front desk staff were very helpful and friendly--kudos to you! The only thing was that the air conditioning was loud and I heard it from someone else's room kick on occasionally, but aside from that the room itself was very quite by NYC standards. I would definitely stay there again--good value for the money!
Cozy & clean.”
No complaints, thought it was great, perfect for my stay, needed for sleeping only, was out all of my stay in NY. Very clean with a modern layout, and great price. Would not recommend if you are looking for a large room, but most people use it for just sleeping so to me the size didn't matter. No dining facilities, vending machines in the basement for your snacking convenience.
Great location (Penn Station and Madison Square Garden are just 15 minutes away), nice, clean and comfortable room, professional staff, free wi-fi. You can borrow an Ipod from the reception desk to have a guided walk around.
Great value and location...”
Stayed at the Gem for a business related trip. If you have to be at the Javits Center this is a super close hotel to stay at. I just booked myself there again for another stay. Rooms are small, but clean and comfortable. My only complaint was that the blow dryer mount came completely off the wall. I was able to put it back in place, so no big deal. Great location and would recommend to anyone looking for a good place to stay in the Midtown West area.
Very pleasant experience.”
We were a bit hesitant at the location at first, but let the reviews guide us. And it did not let down. The hotel is small, rooms are small, but it's a steal at that rate. Everything is new and fresh, and if you don't mind walking the extra 1,5 blocks to 7-8 Ave you have nothing to worry about. And we were very surprised about how quiet it was at night. The staff vere polite, attentive and very helpful from the first minute.
I was wowed.”
I read all of the reviews before choosing this hotel, and when my husband and I arrived, we were both pleasanttly surprised. None of the reviews mentioned that this Gem hotel is just blocks away from the coziest, fun neighborhood we could have asked for! The room was very small, but it was very clean. Every staff member we encountered was extremely pleasant. It was very close to the business center, but if you walk in the opposite direction, towards 9th, I believe, you will hit Hell's Kitchen. There are an abundance of fun bars and restaurants, and Penn Station is about 5 minutes away. We will definitely go back!
my stay was really good. my room was comfortable and cozy right on the first floor. a bit too close to the front desk but otherwise ok. easy access to the Javits Convention Center and brisk walk to 34th and 7th
Run down, 1/2 star and depressing hotel. ”
This hotel was a real shocker! Thinking I had booked a3 star hotel, (as listed), and paying a total of $600 for 2 nights, I walked into a small grungy, messy and run down lobby. The room was as bad, peeling wallpaper, furniture falling apart, bed mattress lumpy and uncomfortable. I would not give this hotel more than 1/2 star. I can't imagine how they got 3 stars! NEVER book this hotel!
Poor Quality and Dirty, Damaged look”
The AC was leaking for three days and soaked the carpet, before it was fixed. Wall paper in the bathroom was torn and patched. Scuffs and dirt on the walls and tub had a ding in it which showed metal. The tub basin had a weird wear stain near the drain. Tiles were dirty and some cracked. I have photos... The staff were lovely people and it was nice to deal with them. The phone didn't work in receiving calls, just making them. Two mornings I didn't get a wake up call. The location was good and but it was a pain to go to the basement for ICE. I will be asking for a partial refund. The cost was not commensurate with the price.
Hello!!!!!!!! We are the new owners/manager. Lots of wonderful changes happening. Hope to see you back so that you can enjoy our hospitality. Mark
Nothing in hotel but rooms
Small and Good”
Small room, a little off the beaten path but just a 10-minute walk to Penn Station or Times Square area.
