Nice jungle lodge”
The jungle lodge is up a hill (a bit of a climb that's good exercise), outside the town. Depending on what you're looking for, a great / bad location. If you like privacy and jungle atmosphere, great. If you want to be nearby the beach and action, then bad.
The cottages are OK, be careful of mosquitos around the outdoor toilets. The staff is very nice, but the place isn't too clean. The pool was quite disgusting.
There is a yoga platform with yoga lessons and nice views. The nearby jaguar rescue center is amazing!

A different place to stay in Puerto Viejo”
The hotel is a few minutes walk rom the town. The hotel area is nice, they are renovating it. We stayed at Kinkajou cottage. We liked a lot of out balcony with a hammock. There are mosquito nets provided for the bed. There are no glass windows, only mosquito net and no air con. We thought maybe the fan wouldn't be enough, but actually we had to find more blankets during the night, because it got so cold! There was a dipping pool, but we didn't use it.
