Get off the beaten path!”
Stayed here as a group of 4 in 2 rooms. Booked a 3-night stay but liked it so much that we stayed a 4th night. (Thankfully they had room for us.) We rode motorbikes from Hanoi. Personal transportation on island is a must! (There are a few bicycles and motorbikes to rent at the lodge.) We ate SO MUCH food (and drank so much coffee) at the lodge! Everything was delicious, whether it was Western or Vietnamese fare. (Ask the staff for recommendations. Their word can be trusted!) One day we decided to eat in town. We had lunch and dinner at 2 different restaurants in "downtown" Cat Ba and immediately regretted it. Cat Ba Town is a nice place to walk around and explore, but when I'm done, I want to return to the peace and quiet of nature. If I have the chance to visit Cat Ba again, I know exactly where I will stay. Cảm ơn bạn to Hai and all the staff from Cat Ba Eco-Lodge. May the New Year bring you happiness, love and tranquility.

eco but only compared to other vietnamese hotels”
at the turn off from the main road you'll see the original hotel name - it's pretty clear the new "eco resort" name was an afterthought and a marketing move to attract foreigners. it worked on us. relative to the rest of the world's eco resorts, it is not particularly eco-friendly. don't expect an organic garden, composted trash or alternatives to plastic bottles. still we weren't disappointed since it is unique among cat ba resorts in being more nature-friendly. if you want a relaxing respite from busy streets, late night karaoke and aggressive hawkers you will enjoy cat ba eco resort. the setting is beautiful and quiet and a sharp contrast from cat ba towns high-rise hotels. that alone made it worth it. we have stayed at a few cat ba town hotels and, while they are considerably more convenient than the cat ba eco lodge, they are about as charming as a chinese business traveler hotel. the location is quite far from town. if you want solitude this works in your favor. we were quite happy with it. however the resort itself has limited recreational options aside from hiking and lounging with a good book. you will want to explore the rest of the island so i highly recommend you rent a motorbike in cat ba town and keep it for the duration of your stay at the resort. the food is mediocre - you won't walk away hungry but nor will you be raving. there are no other convenient options so if you do a long stay you will almost certainly tire of it. also, the resort has raised bungalows that are simple and charming in their own way but have particularly thin walls so hope that you don't have amorous neighbors. beach number three is the best beach on the island and it's located near cat ba town. if you are coming to cat ba to lie on a beach you're better off staying in cat ba town. similarly if you passing through on your way to a halong cruise you might prefer the convenience of cat ba town.

Oasis set in nature”
the location of cat ba eco lodge is beautiful and very peaceful. within 10 minutes of arriving, we decided to extend our stay by three days. the room was small but well appointed. the bed and linen was super comfortable. the only downside is that the walls between the rooms are paper thin - so you can hear everything your neighbour says/does. ordinarily, this would have been a deal breaker and we would have moved on - but everything else at the lodge more than makes up for it. the staff are incredibly friendly and efficient. the free cooking class was fantastic. cat ba eco lodge is a wonderful place to meet other like-minded travellers, who are interested in sustainable living and the environment and have a deep respect for the local people. cat ba eco lodge has much potential to lead the way in eco-tourism - not yet all realised. but it's only early days and their plans - e.g. for an organic veggie garden and solar power - will make this an even more fabulous place.

Want to get some peace and quiet in Vietnam?”
The Cat Ba Eco Lodge is nestled between towering peaks of jungle covered hills. Being at the end of a dirt track means no traffic noise, no hawkers, no hassles. A short walk away is a spring and stream with cold water, although some locals do wash their clothes there. A short but steamy walk of 45 minutes take you to a small zoo. The evening meals were great, the staff friendly, and the free shuttle bus will take you to Cat Ba town and back (13k's) each day. Plus a free cooking class of spring rolls was a nice touch. But, an Eco Lodge? By position yes, but no windows (only shutters) in the elevated rooms means electric lights and the air con is on most of the time you are in your room. And the breakfast included in the tariff was pretty poor with no choice (a choice cost more). And this cost a fair bit more than others places we stayed at.

great if you like remote”
First off, the cons. Don't believe the add on agoda, the place doesn't offer a pool, or a beach, or water sports. The staff doesn't speak English much, they must have ticked all available boxes. And agoda advertises the twin room at 60 us dollars, 10 more than what you pay on location. The staff barely speaks English, and the 2 girls there are nice, but they need their combined English skills to speak as 1 decent English speaker. Don't count on getting information on tours there. And phone signal is inexistant, so you need to get to town for information. The free shuttle is great, but the schedule is a little rigid. The pros. Great location to get out of the noise. Bugs, pets, my kids loved it, running around and being able to get a little crazier than usual. There is a pet turtle, they could go and look for frogs... We thought the food was a little over priced, then realized they were Cat Ba prices, 50k for fried rice or noodles. You'll pay the same in town. The free cooking class was nice, yummy spring rolls and a free dinner and vodka shots with a friendly cook that doesn't speak English. There must be great treks to be done in the mountains, the scenery is gorgeous, but it rained the whole time we were there. All in all, we will definitely go back to the Eco-Lodge when we go back to Cat Ba.

Unique lodging in a beautiful setting”
The setting is beautiful and secluded.Worth checking out their outstanding website which gives you a great overview of the lodge and its services including the free shuttle schedule to town. The 13km distance from town might seem a challenge but it is its greatest asset in our opinion. A restful retreat from Hanoi and a perfect place to recover from the trip to Cat Ba. We woke to the sounds of nature, took a lovely trek before breakfast and sat down to the best cup of coffee we had in Vietnam! If you love nature and need to relax and recover from the hustle of Hanoi this is the place to do it. We were refreshed and ready to get back to our travels after our stay.We support their eco friendly philosophy which is much needed in Vietnam.

Quiet Environment”
We enjoyed three peaceful nights in this idyllic setting. Mngr Vinh will go to great lengths to help you find whatever activities you need to make your stay comfortable and pleasant. Vinh's English is quite good and his attitude about his role and job are first rate. The facility itself is clean and very well set up. Rooms are spacious and airy. Some slight difficulties in transport back and forth to Cat Ba town or the ferry wharf's, but given some notice Vinh can accomplish almost anything. We would definitely stay at this property when we return to Cat Ba Island.

Calm, pleasant place with mediocre food”
the trip to cat ba eco lodge requires good organization. travellers be advised that the ferry from haphong is a far better choice than the usual "tours" from halong. the lodge is situated in a beautiful valley without dirtect neighbours. the rooms are a bit out of date but clean and with nice views. staff is service-oriented and friendly. trips to the next valley by foot, motorbike trips on the island and the calm surrounding make the lodge a place worth visiting - especially since the town cat ba is not worth visiting ... the food in the lodge is unfortunately far below standard ...

Beautiful setting”
great place to chill out away from cat ba town. stunning setting and friendly owner and staff. i spent a great 4 days renting a mountain bike and seeing all round the island under my own steam. then in the evening there was always other guests to sit and chat to and have a drink with and the food was excellent. i live near cat ba and plan to return to eco lodge on my next holiday.

Delightful place to visit. You must do the hike because it is spectacular. The staff went out of the”
When there was a very unusual flooding of the roads during my stay and I could not get back to Cat Bus town when I wanted, the staff manager picked me up on a his motor bike and took me as far as he could go, before the water got too deep. Then he advised me to walk to the far end of the water and hail a cab back back to Cat Ba. Town, which is what I did. The water was knee-deep for a kilometer! I had no trouble hailing a cab after I get to the drier area. Stuff went out of their way to help make everything very comfortable, despite a language difference

Quiet, Special but Extremely Remote, food are belo”
Eco-Lodge Hotel is located at a extremely remote village in Cat Ba Island, which takes 30 minutes by vehicle to get there from Cat Ba Town. However, it will be a special experiences than staying in Town Hotels as Eco Lodge has no direct neighborhood, it is quiet and the view are OK, staffs are friendly too. There are several things need to be considered carefully before choosing Eco Lodge Hotel: 1. Remote Location: At night it is dark and basically there is nothing but fields, it is quite dangerous if you go out. 2. Wrong information from their website First there is no Cooking Class actually, and if you walk from the Gate of Xuan Dam Village, it takes a 40 minutes walk instead of 5 minutes 3. Schedule of Shuttle bus is 9:30am departure from hotel to town, 4:30pm from town to hotel (their website is wrong). Other than that you have to pay 10 USD if you need their services. Schedule of Shuttle bus revive other problem, of course you can pay for taxi (which will be expensive) or rent motorbikes and go back to hotel yourself, but you dont do so, you have to go back to hotel at 4:30pm which will be a boring long night. 4. Food If you have to go back to hotel at 4:30pm, which mean hotel restaurant will be your only dinner option. However the food are relatively expensive and below standard, it will not be a pleasure experiences in their restaurant.

Exceptional”
The location is remote but that adds to the charm of the hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly and food was good although it is worth letting them know well in advance if you require dinner in the evening. I would recommend this hotel for guests who want to escape the lively Cat Ba town but you do need a taxi to get to the main town.

Exceptional”
This is the most beautiful place to stay, I could not recommend it more. You are nestled in the stunning hills of cat ba, only twenty minutes from the town. You can hike straight outside of your door and have the national park entrance a quick motorbike ride away. Lam and the staff couldn’t be nicer and made us feel at home. I wish we could have stayed longer.

Lovely location and friendly atmosphere”
This hotel is out in the countryside, about 20 minutes from Cat Ba town. The rooms are very nice but slightly spoiled by the thin walls meaning you can hear the people next door. Don't let this put you off though, the views are amazing and the food very good.

VERY Remote and Mostly peaceful”
If you want remote, you will love this. I spent my days reading a book in a hammock, watching rain storms, and exploring the countryside. The food was pretty good (the higher prices make sense because they have to travel an hour into the city to get supplies). The room was nice, but the walls are thin. There are dogs on site and one of them will growl, snap, and try to bite you. I work with animals so I kept it at bay, but if you have a fear of dogs. Do not come. Honestly, that dog should not be at a public hotel. Also, I don't suggest swimming anywhere they suggest. The beaches around Cat Ba are so polluted and disgusting, you will NOT want to go into them. I avoided excursions because I wanted to be alone and to relax, so I cannot speak to those. The manager is high strung and rude, but will do almost anything you ask.

Hidden gem on Cat Ba island”
You will find yourself surrounded by trees, bushes and hills. A place to relax or to do some outdoor activities like walking or cycling. A peacefull place that is in great contrast with the hotels you see in Cat Ba town. Although the beach is far, you can take a dip in the water reservoir to cool off.

Beautiful location, average food.”
With forested hills on all sides, the location of the Eco-lodge is wonderful. The traditional style timber buildings blend into the landscape sympathetically and the rooms contain all the mod-cons. The only down side of the rooms is that the windows are shuttered so you can't get any natural light without opening them and letting the mosquitoes in. It was a great base to explore the island by motorbike from. This became impossible though after heavy rains turned the dirt road to the lodge into a mud bath. It will be a lot better if the road in was sealed. Also, the food was pretty average - very oily and salty, and with all other restaurants a half hour drive away you are somewhat confined in terms of eating choices. My husband and I both came down with gastro while staying there, and we only ate at the lodge so it must have been the source. Having said that, I always get gastro several days into any trip to a third world country so may have got it regardless.

Depends what you are looking for”
Situated in very beautiful and quite surrounding, though far from Cat Ba village. So really depends on what you are looking for. By car it takes 30 minutes and taxis in town ask 300k Dong to take you up. We rented motorbikes (in town) and this was very good. Ride from village to lodge was 40 min. You can rent them at hotel but in the village it's cheaper. Twice the hotel offered us a transfer to town, so do ask them. Breakfast is very simple, staff is very friendly and helpful though very few speak reasonable English. The bicycles were not working when we were there and honestly I am not sure this is pleasant biking in the surroundings. The nearby beach was ok to cool down but to much litter. The lodge is nicely situated, lots of trees and plants, nice and quite. Rooms are clean and simple.

Remote, beautiful views”
We enjoyed our stay at the Eco Lodge. The taxi from Cat Ba town should only cost around 150,000 dong although when we first got dropped off in Cat Ba town after the ferry trip over we paid a lot more. Do not pay more than 150,000 dong. Accommodation was nice although our bathroom smelt like sewage if we didnt leave the fan running. The resort is very remote. You can hire bikes from the resort. Although the website says you get a free cooking class and shuttle buses and plant trees, they dont seem to offer any of this, apart from the shuttle bus at set times. Staff were nice.

Located in beautiful valley”
Nice stay here. Staff is not well trained however they're eager to help. Breakfast was fairly small, so i ordered additional bread and eggs. They can improve on that. As this place is a bit remote (about 12km from cat ba city), we rented a motobike and drove to the lodge. The last part is a dirt road, bit of a challenge after rain, but it's doable. This way you don't need to rely on the staff to bring you to places around the island..
