Central District hotels & places to stay

I went to Taichung two months ago and I fell in love with this hotel, the Park City Hotel in Central Taichung. I randomly picked it at first, and when I arrived, they told me that the hotel opened in summer 2012, that is few months ago. So the rooms are very clean, fully equipped, big beds, with LCD tv, hundreds of channels. Location is perfect, the bus terminal is 2 blocks away, along with the old main train station. The high speed rail that connects to Taipei is 15min away by cab (roughly USD 8)

Located in the run-down city center, it is about a 10-15 minute walk from the main train station and bus stations. Is also a 10 to 15 minute walk from the famous Chungyou Department Store and the fashionable Yizhong Street night market and shopping district. Other local attractions are all reachable within a 20-minute or less taxi ride. This budget hotel looks very decently renovated with modern facilities and furniture. The beds and pillows are very comfortable as was the bathroom offerings. An added bonus was that the hotel provides free drinks and snack offerings right in the lobby. There is also limited underground parking. The provided breakfast was also limited but very decent in quality.

This hotel is located at the heart of central district of Taichung. It is nearby the TRA station and bus station. There are lots of convenience stores and food stalls outside the hotel. As a heavy-eater in the morning(lol!), I like their variety of buffet breakfast combining the western and taiwanese foods. We availed the quad room which is good for the four of us in the group. What's hilarious was that we saw a cockroach in the bed before we checked out. I think the hotel needs to cleanse all their rooms to avoid insects scattered around for their future customers. Overall, I will still recommend this place as they have affordable rooms for backpackers or budget-travellers.

We've booked the quad sharing room for our family. Room was big and spacious and you could control the mood lighting from the central panel next to the bed. The kids love the galaxy mood lighting and the interactive robot named Pepper at the room. The hotel is 5 mins from the Sunny Cake museum and just across from the hotel is a Family Mart (24hrs convenience shop). Diagonally across is a 85 degree bakery and cafe where you can grab your coffee and breakfast. The street along the back of the hotel has a 60 year old traditional breakfast place that sells fried dough fritters and fried carrot cake and a number of Vietnamese and Indonesia food stalls.

If location was your main concern, look no further. PLAZA HOTEL TAICHUNG is the place to stay at. Located next to the railway station and with easy access to public buses, you can save loads on transport. During my 3 days/2 nights @ Taichung City, I did not have to take any taxi, but relied on public transport to Yizhong shopping district & Fengjia night market. There is a direct bus #135 to Sun Moon Lake, the bus station is located within walking distance from the hotel. Don't be misled by the hotel exterior. With the modern room decor and reasonable spread of buffet breakfast, this is one hotel where you get your dollars stretched to its maximum limit.

location is good but kinda far from taichung tra. u need to walk about 10 minutes on the busy road. hotel is ok but and it looks kinda old but location wise is the best ! because it's near to Nantou bus which may take to you to xitou, sunmoonlake, cingjing. we took a taxi from VIP hotel to taichung hrs and it cost between 200 to 300 twd which I think is cheap. ( free from hassle if you have large luggages). the hotel is room is ok ( not big yet not small) the bed is kinda hard too. overall the place is good because of the location and it is good for budget traveller. there is a bus stop ( gancheng) just near the hotel which is very easy for you to travel around taichung. there are lots of breakfast around the hotel too which is really convinient. the nearest night market is yizhong and if walk it takes 10 to 15 minutes which is ok and convinient.

We have three person and booked for a Quad Room but surprisingly it didn't cost much! The room is so big and has a very unique design like palace. We enjoy the shower so much as it is so comfortable to have a hot water bath in this cold weather. They also provide various kind of tea bag which is free of charge. The location is near to gancheng bus station and Taichung train station. Nothing bad about this hotel and we definitely would stay again next time!

The breakfast is really of class, and really worth every cent you paid for. The location is slightly out of the way from the big shopping districts and night markets but there is no lack of good food in the area. I really enjoyed every part of the room, as everything is so well thought of. While the weather wasn't bad when we were there, I still enjoyed that the toilet seat is WARMED. There is also a Nespresso machine. The best thing is that there is an indoor slide in the hotel, which amazes a 30-year-old adult too. The staff will gladly take photos or talk to you and assist you with everything you need. Just come here and see for yourself!!

I stayed in a dorm in Kiwi Express Hotel. My stay was wonderful, one of the best hostel I had stayed so far. Staying at the hostel was an enjoyment itself. Location is great - Close to lots of local restaurants! About 10-15 minutes to Taiching Main Station and 大魯閣新時代 (Tai Lu Ge New Age Mall), where I regularly visited Carrefour for quick shopping, and Zhongxiao Night Market. The hostel/hotel and its facilities were well-designed and systematic. The gender-based common bathrooms were very grand, well-equipped and clean! Dorm beds, pillow and blanket were comfortable! The rooftop was awesome - I really like the area! Staff were very helpful too. Iron can be borrowed with a deposit of NTD 100. I recommend placing a reservation, at a cheaper rate, through online platform like Agoda. Walk-in may be asked to pay full price.

A clean and lovely little hotel with nice staff and affordable price. The only thing I dislike is they have very thin wall - I could hear the next room watching football until late night. Vicinity is an old district - I’d prefer staying around the area of Yizhong or Feng Chia next time.. but this has nothing to do with the hotel itself.. If you choose to stay in this area Hommie Inn is definitely the best choice :)

Room 9/10 very clean like new. Towels were white and smelled clean. It’s also quiet. Perfect for those who are light sleepers. Toothbrush soap body wash shampoo slippers cotton buds tissue and toilet tissue were provided. Coffee and tea- unlimited supply. Available whole day. Breakfast- buffet style on first day but second day Kfc voucher only. There were not many guests. Breakfast was not great as there were no fruits. Toast butter jam 1 viand ( did not try) sautéed egg with tomato and ketsup fried rice porridge and salad with 3 kinds of dressing. Salad was ok. Location 10/10 5 -10 min walk to Taichung bus station and also to the famous Miyahara ice cream salon. It’s in an old building at the 12 th floor. There was a tiangge or shopping Center downstairs. Reception- 7/10 cannot check in early even if there were just 3 rooms whic were occupied. It was literally unoccupied when we checked in. Given the chance would definitely stay again.

got a family room for 4 with an extra bed. room easily fit all 5 of us. location was unfortunately a little out of the way as there are no nearby train stations in taichung. thankfully, taxis were able to locate the hotel with the google maps we've printed before hand. taxi to the main shopping districts is pretty cheap, at roughly 200 twd per ride, and is better than taking a bus which has intervals of half to one hour each.

This new hostel on the 10F has a simple ikea like design. The beds are comfortable, with curtains, reading lights, power and lockers. None of the rooms have windows. There are separate dorm areas for males and females. There are large central bathrooms that are modern and cleaned daily. Free soap, shampoo and toothpaste! The breakfast area (no lounge) has tables and chairs with TV. The breakfast is good with fresh coffee and coldcuts for making toasties! The reception staff are very helpful and there is usually a good english speaker available, which helps a lot. The train/bus station is less than five minutes walk away. Recommended.

The team was AWESOME : really helpful, making sure we were at our ease, and OK to keep our luggage the next day. The hostel was really surprising for us : the boxes are in cloth, so you can definitely hear your neighbors. But there are tents too, with great common rooms ! The bathrooms were super clean, and the localisation near the central park and night-market is perfect in order to discover Taichung.

The best of all is the location, it is situated in the very central of Taichung, It is to take buses to any places, on one side of the hotel is close to Taiwan avenue and another side is Min-chuan also a major avenue in Taichung. Around the hotel is the historic famous night market in Taichung and the second traditional market These two places are popular for the best authentic Taichung street food. The hotel itself has the most comfortable bed and pillows that provide a good sleep at the night, the air conditioner is very good , the cleanliness is satisfied, staffs are friendly. I will recommend this hotel to all my friends and I will certainly come back again while I am visiting Taichung

We walked to the hotel from the Taichung Main Station - initial walk felt long as we needed to cross 3 traffic junctions (straight road though). On hindsight, this hotel is actually smack in the middle of the central district walkable to Yizhong Shopping District and near the famous Miyahara icecream; according to the cab driver this a new hotel in an old district thus you get the feel of a rustic place. The staff were attentive to my request and was touched by their warm hospitality. We would stay here again if we visit Taichung the nxt time, but note to self to get a room of a higher grade, because we took the basic room which is a bit too small for us. Cheers~~

Booked as individual but travelled with a group. Ended up in Mou and being seperated from team. Aside from confusion on the hotel (2 hotel buildings under same management almost side by side) the location was great and I was comfortable and felt very safe. Convenient laundry alley right next door and close to all ameneties this place is value for money. One could spend a bit more on accomodation to stay somewhere fancier but the reality is most of us are travelling to experience being outside of the hotel to explore and experience another culture. If holidaying in a hotel is for you then this is not your place. Staff were helpful and friendly and like anywhere appreciate your efforts to communicate in the local language.
