Central Hotel located in downtown Shanghai, has a lot to offer which including a great location. The property is designed in sleek and Western styling. The property has 24-stories with a wide array of options and room sizes to match your needs. All of the rooms are quite spacious for your comfort. Something to keep in mind is that while other hotels may offer non-smoking rooms, this hotel offers entire non-smoking floors, something that can be very refreshing for non-smoking families. The property offers Wi-Fi, catering, meeting rooms, and high-class décor, Central Hotel is ideal for business. The property is strategically located right next to a popular shopping mall and many other areas of interest, makes for a fine choice of leisure as well.

Excellent Location, friendly staff, great experience overall”
Excellent location, right next to the Nanjing Road; short walking distance to the famous Bund. Plenty of shops nearby for food and souvenirs. 5 minutes walk (maybe 10 for those leisure walkers) to two subway stations on People Square and South Nanjing Road stations. Very friendly and efficient staff, quick check-in and out (we checked in at 7pm and checked out at 8am). Our room was quiet and clean (Shanghai is very humid, so the room had the wet humid smell, I wouldn't blame the hotel but the Shanghai weather; perhaps the cleaning staff could use some dry patches or smell absorber). Wifi was spotting, but the ethernet cable was wonderful. Plenty of TV channels (even HBO) Overall an excellent experience, definitely made our 4-day trip in Shanghai a lot more pleasant. Will stay again if we visit Shanghai again.
Superb value for location”
Half block from Nanjing Road East, walkable mid way between Peoples Square and the Bund and subways. Requested a high room and view of city and Pudong, somewhat and reasonably obstructed, was wonderful. Even in the cloudy and rainy weather. WIFI service was great, especially compared to other places we stayed throughout the country. Information desk staff spoke English well. They were patient as we asked our frequent questions. A reminder to travelers that we need to be patient as staff tries to understand what it is we want. Because of other plans and our schedule we did not eat in any of the restaurants including breakfast. The piano bar looked very inviting and prices seemed comparable to hotel lounges. Firm bed was very comfortable. Having a full desk and small sitting area made with TV made our stay more relaxing. Oh! Wonderful mirrors and good lighting in the bathroom for applying make up. (So often bathroom lights are dim. ). Family Mart, a quick stop store, down the block from main entrance, made it easy to pick up our nightly beers.
Excellent hotel ”
I have stayed in other hotels in Shanghai previously but this hotel I would say is the best so far in terms of location, cleanliness, helpful staff, good food served at the restaurant and also strong WiFi signal in room. This hotel so near to the Bund just 8-10 minutes walk and many shopping outlets also within walking distance with the famous Nanjing Street just a stone throw away. I will definitely stay at this hotel from now onwards. For anyone still searching for a hotel in Shanghai, I recommend this hotel without reservation.
Great location! ”
First of all location is great its in front of the park and nanjing road (where zara mcdonalds and kfc are located) walking distance from the bund and peoples square but around 20minute walk. Although you won't get bored or tired walking because all the way to the destination are shops and cafés. Shops include h&m uniqlo forever21 metersbonwe starbucks coco etc. The hotel has a beautiful lobby and just accross the street you'll find a small FamilyMart. Cons: apparently also the location is "touristy" not for the local market. A bit disappointing because i did not see any local grocery or any local shanghai street food market. Location is both a pro and a con. 😁
in the middle of east nanjing road and very clean...”
when we arrived, they told us that they upgradred our room to their 5 star hotel, grand central hotel, which is beside central hotel. so i cant give information regarding central hotel but they do have a very nice lobby and friendly staffs...the grand central hotel is the best, we stayed there for 5 nights. very close to metro station (east nanjing road) and also to shopping center and restaurants. the room extra nice and 5 star facilities...we did night swimming and its warm water...overall we are very happy and will be back to grand central hotel shanghai for our next visit.
Great location”
Central Hotel is near one of the East Nanjing Rd metro stop exits. You can walk to the Bund and People's Square. The walking street is a block away and a great place for people watching. You can grab a cheap meal along the roads that connect to the main walking area.
My new hotel in Shanghai.”
It is always easy to find faults in any accommodation, but rare when you simply do not want to. The Central Hotel from start to finish was excellent and will be my default hotel in Shanghai from now on. English at the front desk is excellent, with the concierge is OK. As we arrived very early we were offered options and got a room quickly and efficiently. Breakfast was OK but always edible and filling. The room was magnificent with separate seating and bedroom areas within the space. The location is less than 100m to the shopping street so is perfect for business and tourism needs. While I prefer a softer bed I also got a good nights sleep so no complaints there either. The other final thing that I appreciated was the ability to open a window. Aircon all worked fine, but I do just love a fresh breeze sometimes.
A good base to be a tourist in Shanghai”
This was a pleasant stay and everything was easy and comfortable. Room was tidy, clean and well equipped. The hotel is well positioned and is within walking distance of central attractions like the Bund and Peoples Square. The hop-on-hop-off bus stops close by and the Metro is just down the main shopping street. Staff quickly organise taxis if needed and they are relatively cheap to get to other areas of the city. A good hotel to stay at while in Shanghai
Great location and great hotel”
One of the best advantage of this hotel is its central location in downtown Shanghai, close to Nanjing Lu and People's square, and close to the subway. The rooms were spacious and clean. It greatly helped that the staff was fluent in English! We'll definitely come back in this hotel for our next stay.
Very Good Shanghai Hotel”
We stayed here during the May Day long weekend over 5 days. The location to the Nanjing Road area and Nanjing Road East Metro station is unbeatable. The Central shares facilities with the Grand Central across the road giving it 4-5 star amenities at a cost effective price. The size of the standard room is very roomy with a seating area, bed, desk and a great bathroom with bath and separate shower. The only spoiler was the room wasn't ready when we arrived at 1pm and the front desk staff just feigned no understanding to our displeasure at said come back at 3pm and it will be ready. Tip... Out the back door and across the road is the best Shanghai kitchen food around, very good and very inexpensive.
Happy Stay”
Very satisfied with the rooms and service. Most staff can communicate in English and Chinese. Good service. Hotel room is big. Location is good. Nanjing Pedestrain Road is only across the road. Nearest subway station is Nanjing East Station which is below Nanjing Pedestrain Road. Very convenient. About 15-20min walk to The Bund. Only 1 station away from Oriental Pearl Tower (Line 2 - 陆家嘴) and Yu Garden (Line 10 - 豫园). Will stay in this hotel if I visit Shanghai again.
Excellent value for the money”
My husband and I truly enjoyed our stay at the Central Hotel. The location was perfect; it was close to Metro stops, the People's Park and the Bund. The rooms were spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet was delicious and offered many choices. We were talked into buying breakfast, which was fine, but a 'happy hour' comes with it. The happy hour is in a special room, away from the main bar, and almost no one attended. Otherwise, the hotel was great.
Great location and good room”
Really enjoyed our stay. Biggest plus is definitely the location which being a fifteen minute or so walk to the Bund and People Square puts numerous attractions within walking distance. Really close to major department stores along Nanjing Road and some good Chinese restaurants. Stayed in a Superior room which was a decent size, with all the usual amenities. Less luxurious than its neighbour hotel, Grand Central but satisfactory for its price range. Strangely, coffee was not complimentary but there was tea. Used the sauna centre while there and it is large and relaxing - great for some rest away from the city buzz. Did not have breakfast or eat in the hotel, but with so much food nearby, there was no need. Used the business centre which was handy to print travel documents and free wi-fi available in lobby as is common with many Shanghai hotels. Staff generally helpful and fund the concierge to be quite helpful but command of English is generally low and some reception staff are not very helpful.
Central Hotel - Shanghai - Nov 2008”
Stayed at the Central for 14 nights; great location two blocks from the East Nanjing Rd exit of Line 2 of the Metro; check-in was a breeze; concierge helped me with numerous things; the gym was amazing - great modern equipment. The only negative, as others have mentioned, is that the a/c does not get the room super cold when you need it. But it was bearable. My friends staying across the street at the Sofitel were very envious - they got a fancier lobby - at a much higher price. Will definitely stay at the Central next year when I return to Shanghai. Note: the 3 in the ratings below for Food/Dining is because I did not eat there - Agoda needs a 'no opinion' option...
Central Hotel Shanghai is right at the central!”
I like Central Hotel Shanghai. The room is very quiet, good for relaxing. The room was clean and the service was just good. The bed is comfortable, warm and have lots of pillows. I requested a non-smoking room and they really kept the room completely without cigarette smell. Looks like the hotel really listen to what customers request for, or I might be lucky. The location of Central Hotel is really great! It is almost at the middle of Nanjing Walking Street, just a block away and walk less than a few minutes. The price of the room is fair for its location and service. Staffs are very nice and helpful, and they can speak a little bit of English, so communication is not a problem. The price for breakfast is a bit too expensive, you can just walk on Nanjing Road and get a simple egg sandwich at McDonald for breakfast with much cheaper price.
good-sized, well-maintained room, convenient location”
In the middle of Nanjing East Pedestrian Road - close proximity, mins walk to 2 MRT stations (East Nanjing Road - intersection of 2 lines; and People Square (multi-line intersection). Rooms are good size, bed comfortable. We walk to the Bund, People Square, Yuyuan Garden/Bazaar, Confucius Temple. That is a lot of walk, towards separate directions of the hotel. Would stay again, definitely.
Excellent location to The Bund and East Nanjing Rd”
Most memorable. We particularly enjoyed the strategic location - right smack opposite East Nanjing Road, and within walking distance to The Bund and Peoples Square. MTR Station Exit 1 is less than 5 minutes away. Asst. Managers on duty and Concierge staff all very helpful. Chambermaid always cheerful and pleasant.
Luxury hotel in a great location ”
The staff was very friendly and fluent in English. The central location of the hotel was great for sightseeing and transportation...I would definitely recommend staying in central Shanghai over the Pudong which can be rather boring. The hotel offered all the amenities of a major luxury brand with a distinctly local style that distinguishes it from being just another instance of a global luxury chain hotel.
Great location and warm service”
i chose this hotel from the review points, and it's been a really good experience for me and my husband. the location is just right...close to the shopping areas, but not too noisy. i arrived at the hotel by 8:00 a.m. on saturday, tired from a night flight. i asked the reception how soon i could check-in. surprisingly, she checked the room availability and offered me to check-into the non-smoking floor right away! this was a really kind offer for us. i will stay in this hotel, if i come to shanghai again.
Wonderful Experience!”
We arrived at Central hotel around 1AM,. The check-in was fast (as well as the check-out). We booked for a superior room but as soon as we entered the room we knew that was more than what we paid for. Only validated it when we checked room pictures from the web, we were upgraded to 'Executive Suite'. Although I didn't explicitly ask for it, (and they didn't even bother to mention it to us), it was very much appreciated by me and my family. It made our Shanghai trip more memorable. The location of the hotel is superb and will definitely stay again in the next trip to Shanghai.
