Satisfactory transit stay”
We stayed one night for our Yala National Park trip, room was spacious and acceptable, but there was no warm water. We didn’t bother to change room cause it was only a night stay and we are leaving early the next day. We had dinner at the hotel and settled in cash for this, but was stopped during check - out to pay again. It was fortunate that Udesh - waiter who served us the night before remembered us and helped to explain. Thanks Udesh!
The Hotel Chandrilka is a lovely boutique-resort-style hotel that met our needs perfectly as a base for our full day Yala safaris. The hospitality of every staff member was second to none, and our deluxe room was spacious and beautifully appointed. We were initially concerned that the hotel was a bit far from the park entrance, but the 20 minute drive was actually quite pleasant. We had the 1/2 board package and very much enjoyed the evening meals and the morning breakfast on our last day. The packed breakfasts (received on our safari mornings) were a little disappointing.
Ideal Safri Resting Location”
We were travelling as a family of 5 (with 3 children; ages 11, 10 & 5) and stayed in the Hotel Chandrika for 3 nights. Ideally located close to the Safari Park, we found it with relative ease and on arrival; we were made welcome straight away with a complimentary drink, whilst our bags were taken to our rooms. The Hotel is well laid out and contained all that we needed. We stayed in 2 standard rooms and whilst no joining door, they were located next to each other, were very clean and were equipped to a good standard. The hotel food was good and we chose the HB option, using the Buffet each evening that was well prepared and contained a variety of option, including Sri Lankan curries. We took advice and booked a take away breakfast for our safari and this was ideal, complimented by some extra snacks for a mid morning break. We will definitely recommend the Hotel Chandrika.
Great small hotel, let down by poor breakfast”
great hotel! great buffet dinner first night when hotel full. Surprised to find no buffet second night when hotel less occupied, but a la carte was perfectly good (kids just a bit disappointed as they enjoyed the buffet so much). breakfast was totally out of character. Dirty table linen, poor choice and components and the worst tea and coffee in the whole of Sri Lanka. staff all very friendly but small details like need to be asked for towels at pool every time rater than offering when you go pool........but perhaps just being picky now. Either way a great place to base a trip to Yala. Noisy temples at 5 am. not a problem if you are going to the park early, but don't expect a quiet lie in (this may have been a new year thing, though..)
One of the best hotels we stayed at in Sri Lanka”
One of the most pleasant stays we had in Sri Lanka. The hotel staff is absolutely wonderful with attention to every detail and possible need you may have. Simple gestures like presenting your welcoming drink and packing your breakfast from your early Yala National Park safari trip made the stay truly memorable. They even provided accommodation for a driver we had hired for our 6-day trip around the island. The place is simple in decor. A palm tree garden divide the two rows of rooms, terminating with a small pool for a dip after a sweltering safari trip. There is also a spa available in the resort offering ayuvedic treatments. Internet is available only in the lobby.
Fantastic hotel with beautiful rooms pool and staf”
We had a wonderful time here staff were so attentive we were upgraded to luxury rooms which were fantastic large bath with rainfall shower pool was lovely and quiet and buffet was delicious we were half board8 can not recommend enough best stay in Sri Lanka thank you
worthy of money”
We first took a look at the chaaya but it was too expensive for a short night stay. So we switched to Chandrika and it proved to be a smart choice. The hotel has a very nice style and it is expanding the room number by building new villas at the back of the hotel. Since the hotel is fully booked, we were arranged to live in the new villa, which has the same style as chaaya! the pack breakfast was very nice! Just in that hot humid area, you might expect some bugs in the room....
Great hotel to relax and enjpy ypur surroundings”
We had A great time staying at Hotel Chandrika. We were only there 1 night while doing a Yala Safari tour. The Safari tour was a bust, but the hpotel made up for it with good food, surroundings and a nice pool and sgreat staff. The only downside is the food is a little pricey versus some of the other hotels in Sri Lanka. But you will enjoy your meal! Would stay again!
In the lap of luxury! Our stay in one of the De Luxe chalet rooms was truly magical.”
The room was spacious and well appointed with a gorgeous en-suite bathroom and a balcony overlooking the beautiful garden. All hotel staff were extremely courteous and went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. A big shout-out to housekeeping for lovingly decorating the bed and to the service team at breakfast for accommodating special wishes. The breakfast and the dishes ordered from the a la carte menu were delicious; only the buffet dinner on an evening where the hotel was very busy, was a bit of a let-down; especially with regards to vegetarian options. Hotel and grounds are very well maintained and the hotel is very tastefully furnished. Overall it’s a big thumbs up from us.
But, although the check in time is 2pm we got the room only at 5pm. And the next day sharp 12;15 the hotel inquired whether we are ready to check out!!
One of the best in Thissamaharamaya..”
We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, the staff is fantastic and the food is superb. The rooms are really nice and clean as well.
Good location, friendly staff”
The Chandrika is a locally owned hotel located 40 minutes away from Yala National Park. It offers a very good nighttime buffet, with a grilled meat and seafood stations and the other a deep frying station. The buffet dishes range across tastes and ethnic flavours. When we were there, red rice was available, which I absolutely loved, as well as a wide array of vegetable-based dishes. The restaurant staff was exceptionally friendly. The breakfast buffet only features instant coffee (gasp). I don't know why, as just having a pot or two would not represent too much more work. The pool offers a refreshing break from the safari. Our room was spacious and very clean. Not sure if the staff could do something about the pigeons on the roof and near the balcony. If they bother you, you should specify that you want a unit on the first level. Although our stay was quite pleasant, the few days that followed it were less so. As we checked out in the morning, the person taking payment made a huge mistake while inputting the amount on my credit card. I noticed the mistake in the evening and spent a stressful three hours trying to contact everyone to right the matter. My card was eventually refunded, but that took 4 business days. Although I believe it was an honest mistake, staff should be trained to be extra careful and show the amount on the credit card device before offering it to the customer for PIN entry.
nice hotel to stay”
Pro. Breakfast spread is good, served both international and local spread Room is big and spacious Toilet is clean Cons Location, there's nowhere to go other than the Yala park. Restaurants outside charges exorbitantly while food served are just average tasting Water is yellow. We would stay again this hotel if it was located elsewhere.
Ideal hotel when visiting Yala”
Nice rooms set in garden with small swimming pool and spa. Both our packed breakfast to take on our trip to Yala and our breakfast at the hotel were good. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.
Nice and clean”
It was a good standard hotel with anything that a traveler might need including a lovely pool, beach towels, kettle in the room, blankets etc which was a nice change and relief after some of the guest houses we experienced earlier in our travels...and a good value too. We paid more for much worse places before.
It is more like a resort but not a hotel. So beautiful in all aspect of a hotel facility. I will stay here if next time I visit this place again. But surely for a longer time. It is so green inside hotel. Swimming pool is very standard. My kids enjoy the pool a lot. My only recommendation they need to speed up the food service after the order placed. In all I am so pleased to be stay in this hotel.
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Chandrika Hotel. We were greeted warmly upon arrival and check in was painless. We decided to upgrade from my standard room to a deluxe room and that was a wonderful decision.
Nice rooms, nice pool and bar”
Very pleasant! Really nice rooms with simply awesome bathroom. Great pool with unbeliavably warm water. The only bad thing I can think off was a yellow water from the tap (we have seen similar in few Sri Lankan hotels). Didn't looked dirty, but was yellow. I gave it a 3 star for food since we only ate breakfast packets they prepared for the Yala safari but were really not that great. Otherwise they might have good dinner and normal breakfast.
Very happy with our stay”
We were very happy with Hotel Chandrika. The service from all staff was excellent and the grounds were nice. Standard rooms are basic but ok. Deluxe rooms are fantastic. The pool was very nice and they were helpful with a guide into Yala for a competitive price. The only cons to this hotel were the few tv channels and the flies in the restaurant. Quite a common problem in Sri Lanka with open restaurants but here it was particularly annoying. Staff did do their best to help with this problem though.
Not too far from Yala”
Our stay here was only really to eat and sleep .We arrived in time to checkin and go straight on safari .The best pool we had seen in Sri Lanka and no time to swim in it.We had room servive and the food was top notch. The staff were very friendly.
