Great Location, Friendly Staff and Decent Breakfast”
The best thing about the Chakungrao Riverview Hotel is its location. Even though we didn't have a view of the river, the location makes it very convenient to get to the river and see a wonderful sunset. There are restaurants in walking distance and even more if you have access to a bicycle, motorcycle, or car. Our room was clean and comfortable, but our air conditioner did get noisy at times and was honestly a bit too chilly. The television was also a bit dated, but I would stay at the Chakungrao Riverview Hotel again.
Nice rooms but a bit noisy”
The first impression of the hotel was not so good as I got the feeling that the hotel policy is to allocate rooms and to avoid any changes at all costs. I asked for a room with double bed but we got twin beds and the surcharge for moving to a double bed room would have been 280 Baht, a quite small sum but this gave me the impression that this was not in the schedule but just to keep us were we were. Also, my wife called the day before we arrived (as due to the short-notice booking no changes were allowed anymore by agoda) to get us a room giving to the back side as the front is towards the road. She got the answer that it would be possible but the back side is giving to a "scary temple". This, I did not find very professional. After checking in and arranging the room to our needs (putting the twin beds together), it looked much better. The room and bathroom were clean and all amenities available. The only thing is that you hear everything from the street (even if it is a sleepy town, one loud car or motorbike every five minutes is embarrassing), but "luckily", many noises have been filtered out by the noisy fan of the A/C (which did not disturb so much as it is a monotonous noise). Breakfast was adequate and also Westerners will not starve. Only really negative point that remained was that the extra charges for taxes and agoda fees were unusually high (more than 20% of the original price), so the value for price ratio is not as good as it seems at first hand. There have been added more than 6 Euro per day to the initial 29 Euro. Anyhow, even with this, it is not too expensive. Excellent idea was that the security guard of the Hotel parking on the opposite side of the street always stopped traffic to ensure a safe road crossing for hotel guests. Overall resume: A good hotel well placed close to the city center (which is not to be mixed up with the historical sites!).
Good location, helpful, friendly staff”
Good, comfortable hotel, friendly staff, delicious food. Excellently located to visit the Kamphaeng Phet historical site (they have compiled a folder with different maps for activities in the area) and will do their best to point you in the right direction. Great photo opportunities at historical sites. This three-star hotel must have been wonderful when it first opened, some twenty-odd years ago, but it would benefit from a make-over. "Riverview" is a slight over-statement.
Good Old Hotel in City Center”
It is a good old hotel in city center. The facilities and its style are, therefore, not very modern or up-to-date but they're very good for this city.
A friendly but tired hotel”
Somebody in Kamphaeng Phet is not doing their marketing well. The ruins here are well worth visiting and are well set out and attractive but the choice of accommodation in Kamphaeng Phet is sadly wanting. The Chakungrao Riverview seems to be the only option and it is not fabulous. The rooms are decent enough and clean but they lack charm and amenities (no jug for making tea/coffee, no hairdryers, no irons etc) so I would not want to stay more than one evening. The breakfast was okay but again, I would not want to eat it more than once. A great town badly in need of some new accommodation. Nice cafe in a side street to the right of the hotel entrance.
Good Option in Kampaeng Phet”
This was a very pleasant stay in an upcountry Thai city. The hotel feels "Thai" in that the design centers around dark wood with wood room finishes, etc. The staff was smiling, helpful and pleasant and the location is good in the center of town. The rooms and the whole hotel could use a full renovation to reach modern standard but didn't really expect this so was not disappointed.
A place to stop over on the way to north”
fit for the price range. the room may not be in a new condition but good enough for 1-2 nights stay before going to the north. also good choice for visiting an historical city of kampangpetch.
clean hotel good sized rooms”
Good hotel. Great waterfront bar at rear which was reasonably priced. The rooms were clean however WiFi was very extensive and for the price of the room should have been included for free. Breakfast was very good. Near to train station. Don't useTuk Tuk out the front of hotel as they are too expensive. Beware of the dogs out at night.
Classic style hotel, comfortable”
Others might describe the hotel as in need of "an update" or "renovation". I really like classic hotels with lots of intricate woodwork, paneling, and wood floors, but admittedly, some things are worn and in need of replacement or repair. The beds were comfortable, the amenities were fine, and the room size was ample. The bathroom was sizable too, with a combination bath and shower. There were plenty of lights and the Internet was very fast. The hotel is located in the heart of Kamphaeng Phet, facing a park next to the river. The view is actually quite nice. There are bakeries, a farmers market, and convenience stores within walking distance. The staff were friendly and courteous. The breakfast was good with ample choices, although there is a bit of a pest issue (this is Buddhist Thailand in the tropics ...they just will not spray). The food was covered. There is no pool.
Nice hotel, great location”
we stayed here because we were travelling home from the north of thailand. we found it was in a very convenient location and was well staffed and very comfortable i would stay here again for sure. there is a good view of the river from the front of the hotel and a beautiful temple behind. parking is also available opposite the hotel.
Very good”
An old hotel. Definitely in need of an upgrade. Parking across street from hotel entrance. Good value for money, but because of age of hotel, as a comfortable place to stay it probably does not compete well with newer hotels in the 3-4 star level. Amenities in room of early 1980's vingage. Lighting in bathroom rather dim. Hot water in shower kept going from too hot to cold, which was rather annoying. Good breakfast. Friendly staff. Not a bad place to stay for one night.
A rare treat.....”
there are so few nice, friendly and thoroughly comfortable hotels in the "mid-west" of Thailand that I always head for this place....it's a long drive to Mae sot and Nakhon Sawan is a nightmare so great to stay the night here. Near the river (obviously...but not right on it) near the market and Tesco(!) lovely people too...
very comfortable hotel for Kamphaeng Phet”
We stayed there for one night on our trip through Thailand. Very good hotel for this town. The surrounding is really Thailand, not like Phuket or other toutist regions. There are also some small bars near the hotel.
Comfortable with access to local amenities.”
This is a good hotel to stay at, and if you have a room facing the right way, a good view of the sea. It is also close to the local markets, which are open at night time too. It is quiet there at night time, with little noise from outside too, even during the "rush-hour". The downsides were that the hot water did not work in the shower, and the WiFi was very weak.
Good Location, Clean”
Good Location. Not far from historical town, market, citi center. Near by river. Room is clean. Staff are OK. Buffet breakfast not that good but OK
Comfortable room, friendly manager”
when i arrived i was greeted by the manager, who spoke fairly good english. he upgraded me to a de luxe room at no extra cost and gave me a map of the ancient ruins. the room was fine. the bed was more comfortable than most, not one of those very hard ones that i encountered elsewhere. the breakfast included real coffee, whereas everywhere else i stayed at on my trip from bangkok to chiang mai served only instant.
Great Hotel looking over river”
staff very good, an the hotel is a bit old but is clean. quiet hotel and is comfortable. rooms are clean. has a good spa and is worth trying for thai massage.
A simple hotel in a quiet location on the river”
We enjoyed our stay. The location was ideal; quiet, traditionally Thai and on the banks of the River Ping. We found the staff helpful and welcoming. The rooms (we'd chosen the cheaper ones) were old-fashioned but clean and perfectly adequate for our needs. Good wifi/internet was a plus. And the bathrooms had plenty of hot water.
Kamphaeng Phet Stay”
I have now stayed at the hotel on two occassions, the hotel is value for money, reasonable standard , room maintenace couyld be improved especially the bathrooms. The lcation of the hotel is good outlook overlooking the park and river was very pleasant. Breakfast was good and a reasonable standard. The hotel represents valu for money. I would recommend the hotel.
Undiscovered Gem”
Whether it was morning or evening, we loved going out to the balcony as the view over the tennis courts, central fountain plaza, and the river was wonderful. The town is very quiet. The night market is only a couple blocks away and was quite fascinating. Breakfasts were delicious and we ate overlooking the street. The restaurant meals in the evening were outstanding.
