    Run down”

We found it very run down for the price, was not super clean either, Ok if you are used to roughing as a backpacker but we felt it was too expensive for what it was. Bed was not very comfy either. I would not stay again.

Good hotel but a little hard to find. ”

    The owner, wi-fi, good bed

The owner was really nice and helped us with a lot of questions. Breakfast was simple but good. Bed was soft and had mosquito net. Hot shower and wifi were good. The hotel was a little hard to find. But if you tell the taxi or tuk-tuk driver to go to Dehiwala police station, go down on Fernando road (or any road next to the police station). Follow the road until it ends on Pallidora road. Take a left and you'll find the hotel on number 44. Easy as that.

    friendly budget stopover”

Cheap, knowledgeable owner was keen to converse, great to see local fruit in the garden

It was our first night in Sri Lanka and we had no idea what to expect. We had typed the address into google maps and were confident we could find our own way there from Fort Columbo using the train and a 3-wheeler. However, google maps has the location wrong so beware! The best thing to do would have been train (amazing views along coast) to Dehiwala (not Mount Lavinia) and then get a three wheeler (300lkr) to the guest house. Chaminda greeted us and was very conversational and accommodating during our stay. We appreciated the hot shower, were able to use the WiFi and enjoyed the breakfast provided. The room was large, had a ceiling and electric fan and an integrated bathroom. The bed was comfortable, but the general feel of the room/bed linen was a little rough-around the edges. Our only real issue was the location (we should have researched more). The guest house was along a long residential road which had barely any close amenities and as a female in my 30s, I would not have felt comfortable walking around at night. Had I been in the country longer at this point and had I been using transport to get around to areas with a little more life, I imagine this element of my review would be very different. The highlights of the stay were, by far, Chaminda showing us around his garden in the morning, sharing his knowledge of his country and the genuine Sri Lankan breakfast. In a capital city, you couldn't really expect much more the price we paid.

Comfortable, quiet stay in a residential area.”

    Cost, breakfast, Mr. C. helpfulness

The Chamenka Guest House is in a residential area of Dehiwela, south of Colombo, near Mt. Lavinia. If a person arrives by plane, they should make transfer arrangements through Mr. C. at the guest house. If they arrive at the Colombo central business terminal, they should call ahead for directions. There are some restaurants nearby, a grocery store, and Mr. C. can arrange for a reliable tuk tuk driver. Lavinia Beach is about 10 minutes away. AC is not necessary. A ceiling fan is sufficient. There is also a refrigerator and washing machine. If a person is heading south. Mr. C. has recently opened a house near the beach east of Galle. It's more for bird watchers than the beach crowd. Very quiet. Good for families. five minute walk to the beach and restaurant.

Friendly guesthouse owned by a lovely family.”

The owner and family took good care of us, peaceful and quiet neighbourhood, close to the beach.

Chamenka Guest House is a wonderful family run place. It is located on a quiet street near the beach. The owner was very helpful and we were able to get a tuk tuk to the beach for under $1.00 or walk. The rooms were clean and spacious and had great wifi. Try the Sri Lankan spring rolls and fresh lime juice for breakfast. I loved them!

    Staying with a family”

Mr. Chaminda goes out of his way to help you out with anything and everything. It was like I was staying with a family and not in a hotel. Quiet surroundings.

It was a very pleasurable stay and worth the price. The breakfast was sumptuous. An ideal place to relax. Mr. Chaminda and his mother-in-law are very courteous and go out of their way to make you comfortable.

Very small rooms, short walk to main areas”

    The Breakfast!

we choose to stay at guesthouse after landing in Colombo. It probably wouldnt take too long from the airport but we arrived during the 50.50 cricket matches. The guesthouse was quite hard to find (according to the taxi driver) but we were welcomed on arrival. The double room was very small with a fan. I wouldnt say it had the best security either. The guesthouse is a short walk away from the main area. We only stayed one night and used for quick sleep before going onto Unawatuna.

Locally run Bed and Breakfast style”

    Near town central area

Our stay was Ok and the host are very nice to us. The thing is that they dont seem willing to do up the place to make it more better for the guests. The rooms were minimally kept up with mismatched furnitures. The room doors were very flimsy and being held together with masking tapes! Can definitely do up the place so that guests can feel more safe and comfortable to stay in. There are more better choices nearby.

Clean and convenient place to stay.

The owner is very accommodating. He has given us useful tips to go around the area. He makes sure that we have want we need and even goes out of his way to arrange our dinner when we went back late from our trip to Sigiriya. Since our flight back is early morning, Mr. Chandima had personally woke us up and make sure that we did not left anything. I highly recommend you to book Chamenka Guest House when you are in Sri Lanka. It is very near to the beach. Safe and convenient. I will definitely book this hotel when i visit Sri Lanka.

    Wonderful Guest House”

    Colonial style living

Chandima and his mother-in-law Suranganie who own and run this guest house are wonderful helpful people. I have stayed here twice now and was here when these Spanish people stayed and caused a problem because they booked non a/c rooms then tried to get a/c rooms at the lower price and Chandima could not do that. There are no rooms with 3 doors. And I have never seen any cock roaches. This house is kept very clean. They cook both western and Singhalese food which I think is of a very high standard. They also can arrange safe and reliable transportation at very good rates. I have been coming to Sri Lanka since 1976 so I can highly recommend the Chamenka Guest House.I won't stay anywhere else when I'm in the Colombo area.
