What a fabulous place! We return after being here on our honeymoon 35 yrs ago to find this gem is still absolutely fabulous. Great rooms, recently renovated, fantastic staff, unbelievable food ( we are both vegetarian and were blown away by the quality and quantity of food avaiable at each meal ). Such a special spot with loads of walks and many activities too. Wow, wow. Congratulations on a well managed gem. You have maintained your standards and we can not wait to return. Thank you for an amazing stay.

Absolutely wonderful visit. ”
Absolutely wonderful 4 days. Hotel is in the most gorgeous setting, lots to do in the surrounding area. The food was delicious , basic home cooking but very tasty. Unfortunately we could not use the games facilities due to Covid but the walks were beautiful and the bowling was great fun. The view from our deluxe room with a Mountain View was spectacular. The bed was comfortable and all ones needs catered for. All in all a really gorgeous, well run hotel with friendly and efficient staff. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and I would recommend Champagne Castle to everyone.

All three buffet meals provided a wide range of imaginatively prepared dishes, served by staff ensuring the Covid regulations were followed, keeping guests safe and well-fed. Beautiful mountain location, providing outside activities or just the pleasure of chilling out and relaxing. Highly recommended.

Was expecting better.”
On arrival the security guard at the gate was border-line hostile in his approach which was not what we expected after traveling 6 hours to get there. Thankfully the second guard arrived with a more pleasant demeanor and smoothed our entry. The room was well sized but on moving a side table it was clear they were not well cleaned. Staff serving at the buffet were not overly friendly and the chef/server questioning my reasons for not wanting any of the other dishes was a touch rude! The views were great and I guess that’s what you pay for.

Magical location”
The Champagne Castle Hotel has a fantastic location, offering breathtaking views of the Cathkin Peak, Champagne Castle and Stekhorn mountains of the Drakensbergs from most (if not all) rooms and chalets. There are marked walks (with or without guide) at various levels of strenuosness which give more great views of the area. Breakfast and dinner buffets varied daily with a great value-for-money selection of meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, some prepared fresh on demand by the chefs (don’t miss the fresh waffles!) The majority of staff were very approachable, warm and friendly.

Relaxing in the mountains”
At Champagne Castle Hotel you are made to feel as if you are one of the family from the moment you walk into the welcoming reception area. The staff are friendly and pamper you from morning to night. They cater for all ages from guided hike trails, horse-riding to organizing activities for the young ones. But be warned: the meals are so tempting that you are likely to leave with a few extra kilos! Add to that the serenity and grandeur of the most glorious mountain scenery and you have the perfect relaxing getaway from the rat race.

Really everything was perfect during our weekend stay at Champagne Castle. We felt like VIP guests; and were able to fully relax! I drove back to Jhb with a heavy heart; but can't wait for my next stay there!

Beautiful view but the place needs some TLC”
We stayed at Champaign Castle for two night. This was my first time in the Drakensburg so I wanted the best view. And that's what we got! Absolutely amazing view! The staff we friendly knowledgeable and attentive. The food was lovley. However for the money you pay the place is a little tired. Our ottoman and chairs were stained beyond belief. The outside chairs were also a little sad. However saying that it was still an amazing weekend. The spa was also well priced and had an amazing pedicure!

Breathtaking hotel amongst breathtaking scenery”
Probably the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. We took our friends as part of their honeymoon and stayed in the chalet, facing a small duck pond and the towering Drakensburg mountains. The design was incredible and so spacious. We had a lovely braai on the veranda, then drank red wine around the fire. Be careful not to leave your windows open, as the monkeys will come in, and make sure to feed the geese, as they are very friendly! There are also lovely walking trails that start from the hotel and a great swimming pool. I'd really really recommend this place to anyone. Make sure you have your own transport though, as the hotel is about 30km from Winterton.

Tree view only”
Here on Agoda the room was advertised with a picture of amazing mountain view right from the room terrace but this is only true for a few rooms while the others see mostly a huge tree which they should have cut down a decade ago. Reception staff wasn't able or willing to help much. For the luggage they sent us an old woman in very poor black clothing so we refused to load our heavy suitcases on here and dragged them to our room ourselves. Incredible for such a hotel. That said the buffet was outstanding and the location is fabulous.

Just very unhappy my son forgot his one pair shorts in cupboard, age 24 yrs, we called immediately the same afternoon after departure. But pants were not seen at all and we know it was forgotten there. Room 81

Bats in room”
Most of charge is for full board inclusion. The buffet style provision provides plently of volume and very poor quality - recyled leftovers and mouldy parmesan for the pasta unashamedly put out. Then bat in room eventually caught and removed on second night. One is in essence trapped in the hotel - there is very little to do or see other than the magnificent mountain at the foot of which the hotel is located
