Champasak Palace Hotel - What Fun!”

The rooms are neat, clean and well maintained. We were especially impressed with how nice the bathroom was: spacious, spotless and everything worked.
The buffet breakfast was rather drab and ordinary. (But, the coffee was excellent.)

The Champasak Palace Hotel was built in the 1960's as a palace for a Lao "king". It has a stunning location overlooking the Sedon River. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The air con, water heater and TV all worked flawlessly. The gardens on the grounds are both interesting and well-maintained. Have your included buffet breakfast on the outdoor terrace with views of the river. Enjoy the Lao coffee. The main shopping district of Pakse is about ten minutes by foot.

        Wonderful architecture”

Room size, architecture, very helpful staff

The hotel met us at the airport and drove us the short distance to the hotel which is an architectural delight. Originally built as a palace it is now a very busy hotel where busloads of Thais arrive each evening. One evening there were three busloads plus a large party of Europeans and each one had a celebration in a different room. Needless to say it was noisey with everyone competing with their own microphone but come 10.30 pm it all stopped and everyone retired to their room for the night. If you are looking for peace and quiet you will not get here in the evenings. We found it amusing to watch these people enjoying themselves dancing and singing. The hotel is on the banks of the Siddone River over which our room looked. We had a large room with a comfy bed, although the additional pillows were a little lumpy. It was a lovely spot only marred by the Thai's buses that ran their engines for rather a long time spewing fumes everywhere. The service was great in spite of the huge numbers that descended each day. It always came with a smile. Breakfast was a buffet with plenty to choose from. Do try their French toast which you will have to ask for. It is not on the buffet and does not cost any extra - it is quite delicious and comes with a small bowl of local honey. We ate at the restaurant twice, unfortunately the pork fillet I chose was neither cooked, fillet or tender but they did their best to recook it without success and let me choose another dish of fish which was good. Do try their steamed Mekhong fish - it is simply huge and delicious. For best service in the evening go when there are no Thai functions. We had a great time in Pakse enhanced by our finding Somchit a driver/guide with whom we had 3 fantastic days. If coming to Pakse again we would choose this hotel.

Mekong RIver Views, Immaculate Rooms, Convenient Location

For the price the Champasak Palace is probably the best deal I've ever had in Asia. For a start is an actual palace. The views over the surrounding hills and rivers are unmatched in Pakse and the prices are not much more than backpacker prices. Amazing.

        Beautiful hotel in Pakse”

The rooms are large, airy and comfortable

Our stay at the Champasak Palace was very good, they have a free pick up service from the airport although we did not know about that until we arrived! The staff were very pleasant. The restaurant is good serving asian and western food. so it was very comfortable. The gardens are lovely and well tended. For a stay in Pakse I would say this is the best hotel in town.

※Price for service stayed with a single trip from Japan. Regular price in Pakse city. I was satisfied with the price. In the case of I do not feel inconvenienced by the service. Pay for laundry. T shirts, pants and so on per dollar. Morning ceremony finish in the evening. ※Location I stayed in a room at the end of another building on the second floor. The view of the river is also good and the sound of nature is beautiful in the morning and it calms down. I think that it is a location that you do not have trouble with most of shopping and meals. I went to the neighborhood delta coffee every morning. ※Cleanliness Not only the hotel but the whole hotel is kept clean. I would be looking for places that feel the aging of the hotel itself, but I do not have any complaints from Japanese people. Room cleaning after checkout is wonderful. I feel the service of the hotel again. ※staff A word of gratitude for my unfamiliar Lao, the front desk who gave me a courteous attendance in English as well as the cleaning age. In the case of The slender porter is a professional. Even if you do not understand the words, attentiveness is wonderful. I feel the spirit of the service industry. In the case of Because it is a hotel because it is natural, it is natural, but I did not expect to feel Omotenashi without casualness in Laos. I know the personality of the Lao people. ※Facilities / services Dissatisfaction of facilities is due to a separate building or WIFI is weak, cut off W I get used to shower is weak. Although hot water is not warm, I get used to it. In the case of Easy Laos is burning in Southeast Asia. I can endure the hot water shower. The air conditioner moves but the sound is great. The range which can endure. There are hospitality (OMOTENASI) in Japan, but also here. They understand the service industry and are in daily work.

It Feels Good to be Back!”

Royal Palace Building, Terrace, Gift Shop

I stayed at the Champasak Palace Hotel back in 2010 during my first visit to Pakse City together with my two nieces. It feels good to be back to see how this hotel has improved since then. Five years ago the hotel was too quiet and had an eerie atmosphere and some reviewers wrote it was haunted; most of the rooms were unoccupied but this time most of the rooms are lighted, hence, the occupancy rate improved a lot. Today, Champasak Palace Hotel is full of life. The dance club at the higher floor attracts guests and outsiders. Likewise, the hall next to the restaurant at the ground floor was packed with partying guests. Wi-Fi still didn't work inside the room so I had to go to the ground floor to get connected. My sister and I passed by the Gift Shop and we saw a souvenir T-shirt embroidered with the hotel's name so we both decided to purchase. We requested for a wake up call from the male receptionist on duty but he was fast asleep when we went down to check-out so I had to wake him up. Breakfast is served at 6am so we gave it a miss since our bus to Vietnam was leaving early in the morning. Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Champasak Palace Hotel.

Decent rooms in a spectacular setting”

a are opportunity to stay in a former palace

Champasak Palace is all about the setting. The rooms are okay...certainly clean and comfortable, though showing a little wear...but the hotel itself is such an experience, staying there is worth it for that alone. The place is absolutely huge, built as a palace for Prince Boun Oum na Champasak. He never actually lived there, having had to flee Laos in the early 1970s as the communists neared victory. But it's a wonderful and rare chance to stay here and experience what it would have been like to actually live here. The place is grand, ostentatious, huge. Wandering the ground is really interesting as well. Didn't eat at the hotel so can't speak for the food, but the garden behind the restaurant is a great place to sit and sip a glass of wine at night. One caveat: watch out for the large, voracious and noisy Thai tour groups which frequently stay here and totally take over the restaurant at breakfast time!

Beautiful hotel Former palace of the monarch Large, well-appointed rooms Welcoming friendly staff Great food at a great price
A swimming pool would make this a terrific resort

Being the former palace of the last reigning monarch of Laos' Champasak province, staying in this hotel makes you feel like royalty. The building, rooms and decorations are magnificent. The rooms are huge and well-appointed, the staff is friendly and helpful and the food is very good. This is probably the best value for the money of any place I've stayed in Asia.

Huge rooms but service needs to be improve”

        Huge rooms, clean

We stayed for 2 nights at Champasak Palace Hotel. The building looks very magnificant, but a pity that it is not well maintained. The hotel looks like it needs a new paint job. Because it looks quite old, at first sight, it seems quite dirty. However, if you take a closer look, it is actually quite clean. The rooms are huge, with 1 side of it facing the Sedone River. There is no private balcony though, and it seems like just another corridor from the 'backdoor' of the room. Does not bother us though. Breakfast was reasonably good with your choice of eggs and toasts. The hotel does tours with Thailand travellers and when the group is there, you get a buffet style breakfast! If the tour group is not there, there are not that many tourists and you will feel like you are the only people in this huge building. Why I said service needs to be improved is because they forgot to pick us up from the airport although I have emailed them before the arrival date to confirm about the pick up. I had to borrow the handphone from the friendly people at the airport to call them. It will be unfortunate if I did not think of it as taxi price is fixed at US$10 for a 10 minutes ride.

        Staff Always Make a Hotel”

This is an older hotel just slightly past its prime but I love those places. It's huge and really was a palace at some point. My room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. But as always it's the staff that make a hotel. I had booked through Agoda at a good rate and needed to change one of my dates. I also had a problem with a motorbike company wanting to keep my passport while I travelled away from Pakse for several days. Long story short, the staff were great and solved all my problems. Without them I couldn't have had the great holiday I had.

        A Real Palace”

In my travelling in S. E. Asia for about 6 months so far, this is one of the most fantastic and unique places. I think I would never be able to stay in a place like this ever after. Room is spacious. But the best of all is the corridor where you can walk along. The top 6th floor doom view was amazing, looking down 2 rivers and 4 mountains, plus busy Pakse main road. The breakfast was quite good. The hotel is not super modern because this place is not for that. This is for those who want to be a king or queen at least for one night, with the quietness of the building (because of the guests were very small number compared to the whole numbers of the rooms). Recommend * 10.

        most prestigious hotel in pakse”

Old world charm and historic significancce of the hotel being originally built as the palace of the last king of Champasak is enough reason to stay here. Beautiful and spacious rooms (I booked 2 superior rooms for one night)with a nice view of the garden, Sedone Bridge and river from the terrace, soft and comfortable beds, clean beddings, etc. Walking distance to Delta Coffee which offers the best coffee, cakes and pastries, and meals in town at a reasonable price.
Wireless wifi did not work in both rooms, which makes it very frustrating. The receptionist was helpless. I had to bring my laptop to the reception before I could connect to the internet. Buffet breakfast had very limited selection; hotel management should improvement in this area. I am surprised that this hotel has no facility to purchase bus tickets for guests unlike in all other hotels and guesthouses where I stayed in Laos where assistance in booking and purchasing our bus tickets to our next destination was readily available.

Location is not that remote from the main town. It is also close to Green Discovery where you can book your tour packages and buy air and bus tickets. Even closer to Delta Coffee where guests can enjoy the best meal in town at reasonable prices. Although the property is already old it is still well maintained. The sauna offers an excellent opportunity to relax after a tiring day tour. Should i decide to visit Pakse again I have no hesitation in staying at Champasak Palace Hotel.

Luxurious, first class hotel with lovely view ”

Beautiful spacious luxurious rooms, central location, good breakfast

i wanted to stay here to see what's a former palace is like inside, and it didn't disappoint. the place is located beside the sedone river at its back, and the lovely wat tham fai just across the street. my room was huge, with elegant interiors from the light fixtures to the decorations inside. there'a a spotless tub at the bathroom. there's cable television, and my room has a porch outside. breakfast was buffet. all the monks in a thai temple descended from their temples and joined me in my table for their breakfast. itwas such a treat. they were on a holiday, crossing through laos then vietnam, i was told. friendly staff, with guards at the foyer. the only weird thing is, when most guesthouses would book you your planes and onward bus travels, this hotel doesn't, thus i had to go to the bus terminal for that.

        Historic hotel”

        Nice view of Pakse town

This is my 3rd times stay at this hotel. I like this hotel more than Arawan. The room is large with a high ceiling since this hotel design to be a place. I believe it has not been used as a palace yet. The room has two entrance which is odd, but nice. We can enjoy a good view of the Pakse town and river from the higher floor. The bath room is new so nothing to complain. The breakfast is ok.

An actual palace built for a prince that is now a hotel.”

This was an actual palace built for a prince that is now a hotel. While it may be old and have a few problems here and there like all older renovated hotels, this one is worth a stay for the reasonable room rate. The room was adequate for our short few night stay and the staff was kind and went over the top with helpfulness. If you are used to the chain hotel amenities and perfect box rooms with no defects, this may not be for you. If you want to embrace the old style and live back in time like a price, stay here and experience the grounds and all the views, nooks and crannies everywhere. It's a hidden jewel in plain sight.

        What a relief!”

        Big suite, clean, quiet

We enjoyed our stay of one night in Pakse especially because of the Champasak Palace hotel. The VIP-suite was spacious, clean and quiet. Wifi-reception was only possible near the reception.

        beautiful building with airy terraces”

the hotel is a place worthy of a visit in itself

We stayed for four nights and had a very interesting time in Pakse and on the Bolaven Plateau. Our room had doors facing east and west (with terraces on either side) so that we could enjoy sunrises and sunsets. There was a wonderful view on the river and the surrounding hills. During the heat of the day the airy terraces offer a nice and quite cool reading place (if you have the time to do so). There are bathtubs and very hot showers. The breakfast buffet is ok. Nice fruit and fried vegetables but cheap coffee and fruit juices.

        Historic hotel ”

        Big room

We choose to start at this hotel because this hotel used to be a old Lao palace. The hotel is a bit old but well maintain. The room is extremely large. I stay with my friend and two of us are comfortable. Our room has two entrance, which I found it odd. Main entrance from the hall way and another entrance from the balcony. This hotel has a very nice view of the MaeKong river with background view of big mountain. The breakfast is so-so ... I did not have a chance to walk around the hotel at night so nothing to recommend. Next time to Pakse I will try other new hotel and see the different.

        Palatial.”

Nice airy hotel. Good clean rooms, though a little dated. Was upgraded on arrival from a twin Street front room to a king river view. Happy with that result. Bed was comfy enough and plenty hot water in the shower via the room's own heater. Room opens onto a communal corridor/verandah with seating. Very pleasant except for the ongoing construction on a new wing. They started at 7am, however with shutters and bathroom door shut the noise was reduced. Wifi on floor 3 was sketchy but fine in the lobby and on the rooftop bar which was vastly under used during my stay, despite the great views from up there.

Cheap and convenient for a one night stay”

The faded glory of the palace, the cost, the history

We enjoyed staying at Champasak Palace - if you're in Pakse for a night and looking for a cheap and interesting place to stay then I would recommend staying here. The palace is run down, and the rooms are fairly basic, but it's worth it to be able to sit on the grand old marble balconies looking over the river - it must have once been a very impressive palace. It's slightly up the hill from town, but this was no issue for us and just means that the views are amazing
