unfriendly service”
If you want to stay in a former palace, that is fine. The stuff was not friendly at all which was a shame. As a guest you pay for the accomodation but the place is really somehow run down, the bar at the top deserted and no smiles at check inn or in the restaurant. What a shame! If you really wanna stay in a nice place in Pakse, stay some place else. in Champasak Palace Hotel, they dont care at all. A waste of time and money.

An actual palace built for a prince that is now a hotel.”
This was an actual palace built for a prince that is now a hotel. While it may be old and have a few problems here and there like all older renovated hotels, this one is worth a stay for the reasonable room rate. The room was adequate for our short few night stay and the staff was kind and went over the top with helpfulness. If you are used to the chain hotel amenities and perfect box rooms with no defects, this may not be for you. If you want to embrace the old style and live back in time like a price, stay here and experience the grounds and all the views, nooks and crannies everywhere. It's a hidden jewel in plain sight.

Beautiful building but the worst managed hotel, everything broken staff very unfriendly,”
Worst hotel I’ve stayed in Laos. Wi-Fi broken, air-conditioner did not work, lamps broken, sheets came apart and staff were very unfriendly. Huge buffet but the food and eggs were cold. I hated staying here

The rooms are a bit dark and could do with sprucing up,but are well equipped and the building itself is great. The breakfast buffet is good .

good location and good facility, but very poor management and bad maintenance ”
a pity for such a fine property that have very bad or no management with uneducated staffs only. No security guards at night, any one can walk straight to your room. very dusty and dirty / ( not to offend China and their people as most of them are good) big group of cheap and misbehave Chinese tourists make this hotel even more terrible.

A Hotel With A Difference”
As it’s widely known the hotel used to be a royal palace. It still has that palatial air about it; the columns and the largesse give it a grandiose, palatial feel. The rooms are looking a little worn though. The elevator was out of order during my 3 night stay and showed no signs of getting fixed any time soon. The building itself has an eerily empty feel to it, the staff are less than enthusiastic but perfunctory. There’s supposed to be a fitness room somewhere but I never saw it. Someone mentioned that it reminded them of the hotel in the film ,The Shining. Those were my own thoughts entirely, if they ever do an Asian remake of the cult horror movie, this hotel is the perfect location. I half expected an axe to come through the long wooden shuttered doors to my room, and someone saying ‘here’s Johnny’ whilst in bed. And when I was in the shower I kept looking over my shoulder, as the shower scene from the film Psycho played over in my mind. Well you get the idea, it’s a spooky kind of place. I didn’t like the location, it’s a 15 walk to the town centre on the outskirts, with nothing of any interest around. Much better to stay central unless you like walking along main roads. I put the do not disturb sign on the door but the cleaners entered irrespective. Not bad value for money though all things considered.

In need of updating!”
Started in the standard room which was dated and the mattress and bedding were well past there used by date. No Wi-Fi in the room. We asked to upgrade to the deluxe room which was a much better improvement for very little extra cost. I SUGGEST IF you stay here you pay for the deluxe room as the mattresses are much better and so is the bedding. The breakfast was outstanding as you got a very good variety of foods. In regards of tours in the hotel, please look within the city as the prices are much cheaper at the travel agents. All in all if you wanna Stay in the kings palace just make sure you pay for the upgrade for a comfortable stay.

Staff Always Make a Hotel”
This is an older hotel just slightly past its prime but I love those places. It's huge and really was a palace at some point. My room was comfortable and spotlessly clean. But as always it's the staff that make a hotel. I had booked through Agoda at a good rate and needed to change one of my dates. I also had a problem with a motorbike company wanting to keep my passport while I travelled away from Pakse for several days. Long story short, the staff were great and solved all my problems. Without them I couldn't have had the great holiday I had.

Bad room and no service ”
There is no natural light in the rooms the windows are blocked. They AC is extremely noisy. So much that in order to sleep I had to turn it off. There is no real restaurant. The breakfast is medium. The place is falling apart. They advertise a bar and pool room that does not exist. Maybe the historical aspect is the only thing that is working for them. So I do not recommend this place.

Facade Hides Tired, Faded Glory”
Must've been decent back in the day. The hotel brochure in the lobby proudly says the property was renovated in 2004! Interior is aged - bathroom cabinetry was rotting away. Sheets/mattress cover looked old; washed but with old stains. Just generally run down. There was fridge with minibar and hot water heater (for coffee/tea), but while sugar and creamer were provided, there was no instant coffee or tea bags.... Reception service on check-in was sub-par; reminded me of service at state-owned hotels in other countries, where no one has any incentive to do a better job. Went to 6th floor to check out the view from the purported bar and deck there (the elevators had nice posters showing people playing pool and having drinks, and website description showed a young couple catching the view), only to find an abandoned-looking bar with decrepit furniture/chairs piled up, glass in the door broken, no signs of life let alone service. I suspect the "spa/sauna" advertised will be similar.
