Nice food, beaautiful gardens, helpful staff

We moved from the Pavilions Hotel where we stayed for one uncomfortable night. The Chateau On The Park was a delightful contrast. We were made to feel welcome and the staff were very obliging. We were caught in the Christchurch earthquake and we cannot speak highly enough of the way all the hotel staff strived to make us feel as comfortable as possible in the dreadful circumstances.

Good choice”

Interesting architecture and friendly feel.
Nothing!

There are so many hotels in Christchurch we felt it was a real lottery as to which one would serve us best. This one is slightly out of the centre but did not disappoint. The room was a good size with two armchairs and an occasional table, and the en suite had separate shower and bath. The bed was comfortable and big! The hotel has several different buildings but all are low rise and connected by corridors with access to splendid gardens. We used the free shuttle mini-bus to the city centre and were met to return as arranged. An early checkout and taxi were arranged without any fuss. Food in the restaurant was good and staff helpful and friendly. You might gather that we enjoyed ourselves in Christchurch!

Clean rooms, perfect location and great staff!”

We were welcomed with a smile by their receptionist and their famous “Double Tree by Hilton cookie” which me and my husband liked so much. The room and bathroom are clean. I liked the ambiance of their hotel which they have a garden and pool. Staff were great and lovely! Very close to Christchurch central. Will definitely go back!

after reading some not so flattering reviews I was hesitant to stay here but just about everything else was booked out or not suitable. I found this hotel to be a classic old style hotel with large rooms quality bathroom supplies and large beds, this is a large hotel with a restaurant and bar and a pool. set among lovely gardens and across from Hagley Park and located very close to the centre of Christchurch.

Excellent hotel with extremely pleasantl staff”

Love the style of hotel with a good pool/gym facilities.

We stayed here for one night prior to flying back to the UK (the day before the earthquake!) The hotel is very nice, but is a little too far from the centre for ease of walking, although the hotel does offer shuttle buses to/from the centre, places for which need to be booked in advance. We decided to stay in the hotel for dinner and the food was exceptionally good and our waitress couldn't have been more helpful. We hired bikes from the hotel and explored nearby North Hadley Park which was a lovely way to spend our last sunny morning prior to leaving. The only slight negative would be that our room, although booking a Deluxe room (a bit misleading as it seems that this means it is a standard room), was rather tired and could do with lightening up a bit with bright curtains and cover on the bed. The bathroom too was beginning to feel a little tired. However, the room was a good size and was quiet with everything you needed for a pleasant stay.I would certainly return to this hotel on my next visit to NZ.

We had a really bad trip this time due to weather conditions and cancelled planes, and this hotel saved us. I was extremely tired when we arrived there, they did everything they can to get our room ready. They gave us the most delicious cookie of my life too. It feels like a chateau, European vibe with New Zealand green. Plus, best restaurant in Town -Dux- is at 6-7 min walking distance.

Excellent setting Close to amenities Excellent food
Poor toiletries Grubby bathroom Dusty room

A very enjoyable 4 day stay in Christchurch. The resturaunt food was of a very high standard. Good special offers for some meal time slots.Car parking was easy on site. Beds were clean and tidy although the furniture needed dusting and the bathroom was a bit out of date and therfore looked a bit grubby. The staff were very friendly and helpful with lots of Christchurch info on site. A shuttle bus was available free althoughwe had a car it would be helpful for older travellers.

Clean, modern hotel with friendly staff.”

Location - within walking distance of Hagley Park and the Botannic Gardens.

The hotel is of modern design and good appearance. We purposely booked a hotel with a restaurant as we were staying over Christmas. To be greeted at check-in by being told breakfast on Christmas Day finished at 830, there was a brunch in the restaurant at lunchtime but it was fully booked and the dinner in the restaurant in the evening was also fully booked. That left us, tired after a 10 hour flight in an unknown city with no meals on Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve, we were told they were doing another sitting for dinner so we could have a table at 830 pm. The restaurant was good, the service pleasant and efficient and the menu and food of high quality. To add to our woes, we then had several earthquakes but the staff were calm and efficient and the odd repairs that were needed were quickly done.

It has good chain-hotel standards. However, the room was quite dated and not much equipped - no microwave, no heater but there is an air-con. A little disappointed especially compared with our stay in Hilton Queenstown - same price but different experience.

A very relaxed pleasant atmosphere makes this an ideal centre for a Christchurch visit. It’s a lovely walk into the city through Hagley Park but buses are easily accessible too. The gardens are beautiful and the pool is warm and sheltered from wind. All the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and efficient and the restaurant serves good, if fairly traditional, meals. I felt dry comfortable to be staying alone.

The Chateau on the Park ”

Quiet Good Amenities 15 minute walk to CBD Hagley Park nearby (Botanical gardens, golf & walks) Breakfast Buffet Pleasant Bar Good restaurant Easy parking
I have noticed whenever I book through Agoda, I am given one of the older rooms which have not been updated, and my room request is never upheld. No complimentary newspaper and fewer room provisions e.g. no shower cap, etc.

Whenever I visit Christchurch I only ever stay in this hotel. The main reason is I like the area it is in and to walk around the nearby suburbs as there are pleasant gardens and homes. If you are after a quiet peaceful hotel this is an excellent choice. It is only 15 minutes walk across Hagley Park in the centre of Christchurch to most amenities and is also nearby to Riccarton, which has restaurants and a large shopping complex. It is peaceful, the rooms are well appointed, the buffet breakfast, bar and restaurant are all good. It is in its own private quiet grounds very close to the well known garden Mona Vale, which has a great rose garden, a cafe and lovely grounds.

Friendly atmosphere.

This hotel is in a great location, near Riccarton and Hagley Park. The staff are very helpful and the service is very good. The Chateaux feels neither French or Kiwi-you could be anywhere in the world really when staying here. The spa faciities are currently in repair, so no pampering onsite. The public spaces are lacking in lively decor and provide little opulence. A cosy stay.

Proximity to Hagley Park and Botantical Gardens

although the hotel looks dated and the decor tired and a bit stodgy, it is conveniently close to the airport and only separated from the cbd by lovely hagley park. the rooms are spacious and sufficiently equipped. the comfortable beds allowed for a good night's sleep in this quiet part of town. staff was helpful to direct us to a nearby eatery as the restaurant of the hotel looked uninviting with its dark colors and old-fashioned decor.
