Very good Youth Hostel type accommodation, in a great location.”
This type of accommodation wll not be for everyone, but for me it was really great. The shining star that I want to comment about first is Breakfast. It is just superb. It is a meat-free menu but it's a 10 out of 10 from me. Cereals, different breads, meat free toppings, fresh organic fruit, Ground coffee. Provides a great start to the day. Staff are, by and large, helpful and friendly. The rooms are tiny with no wardrobe but the price and location make up for this, for me. The ceiling in your room is a wooden lattice and sounds from the adjacent rooms can be a problem depending on guests staying when you are, so make sure you have good ear plugs if you are easy woken by noise. So, some good some not so good but all in all, Chelsea Cabins a great little find and I will have no hesitation in using the accommodation again when next visiting New York City. A word of warning: I booked with Agoda. They mislead you by saying you can either have a large bed or a windowed room. It's nonsense
A great place for backpackers”
Things are all true on the net: great location, friendly staff, small bed, poor walls. As long as you bring earplugs, things are a lot easier than it seems! Would recommend anyone if travels alone live here. One more word: better checking in in the morning, I came at near midnight and had a hard time finding the place while the doorbell wasn't effective. It was a person living on the second floor came to my rescue, thank him! (Chelsea Cabins is on the third so add it to your note!)
Has some insufficiency but worth the money.”
Nice location. Personally, I like the feeling of living in small cabins. Affordable price. However, the connection and speed of the wifi are poor enough so that you really need your own data. The cleanliness is another problem: they probably don't wash the sheets quilts covers thoroughly that I found a few bed bugs on the bed, which is extremely disgusting. The sound insulation of each cabin is very poor. I can feel someone passes my door since the floorboards were moving. The water of the shower is very small so it will take a long time to complete a shower. Besides those insufficiencies, I like Chelsea Cabins and will recommend this to everyone.
It was okay.”
As everyone knows, costs of hotel/hostel in New York have always been extremely and unreasonably high, and this should be the only place that I could find then to accommodate myself with a tight budget. If you are a light sleeper, I would not recommend you to stay in this hostel. Though it provides perfect privacy for each room, there is no sound-proof like roof on the top for every room. Also, the bathroom and the shower room were very dirty during my visit.
NY City downtown hotel on a budget”
From the outset, I knew I would have an extremely small room in this cabin style hotel. Upon arrival, staff were very welcoming. It felt like I was staying at a family run b&b. The location is great, 5 min walk from Penn station. Breakfast was adequate. This is an ideal cabin hotel if you intend to be out exploring most of the time and just need a clean, convenient place to rest for the night.
Quiet and strange place.”
House is quite old. You need to climb to the 4'th floor. No elevator. Spacious floor with lots of thin-walled cubicles, called as rooms. Everyone must be quiet and it's an excellent experience in noisy NY. You can grab free fruits and tea on the floor. 2 Showers and toilets on the floor. BTW, meat and fish are forbidden in this place. The only customer who allowed to eat meat is to house-owner's dog (friendly-looking).
Hotel near madison square,marcy's”
I like this hostel ,because location is perfect near madison square, marcy's. Staff very nice kind and helpfull , room with air condition is ok for travel alone I will back to this hotel if i come to NY again.
Cheap and great location”
It is as advertised, a cabin. Stayed there 5 days, and it was perfect location to visit the city. And great that it is small and not that comfortable, at least you spend time outside visiting the town!
The staff was super friendly, the location is central and the price is cheap for New York standards. But the tiny rooms don’t have ceilings and the walls are made out of paper so you literally hear everything even people breathing! I wasn’t able to sleep for a minute during the night. People were coming in, people’s alarms were going on and the breakfast area was right next to my room so even without anyone actually being noisy it was a horrific sound experience throughout the entire stay. I would never stay here again even someone paid me for it!
Friendly staff, great location, unusual setting ”
Lovely staff. Near Pennsylvania Station. Cons: some guests talk loud on their phones early in the morning. Others slam doors and heavy footsteps can wake you up. Alarms and phone noises as early as 5am. The trellis that covers your cabin should be partially covered to block the light at night. Bring eye patch. Ear plugs provided. If you’re a light sleeper, I don’t recommend it. On a tight budget but needs to stay in downtown Manhattan, this is an option.
Great location to crash for a night or two”
pros -location (walking distance to subway penn stn, 28st) -simple breakfast -clean shared facilities -ironing board cons -not for light sleepers -up two flights of stairs -no change of linens (stayed 4 nights) -cardboard thin walls (can hear snoring in the adjacent cabin, pple showering, speaking on the phone)
If one is looking for a simple place to sleep, this is a place to be considered. It's in an ideal location: walking distance to Times Square, Hell's Kitchen, Empire State Building, Macy's, and a few steps from the Penn Station. It's accessible but not bothered by the noise and busyness of Times Square and Broadway. The rooms are really just cubicle-types, with doors not reaching up to the ceiling, maybe to access the centralized airconditioning. So one may be bothered by people coming in and out of the doors, snoring at night, or the early-risers talking or banging the bathroom and toilet doors in the morning. Two bathrooms-cubicles and a toilet (with two sinks and three toilets in cublicles) are shared (per floor, as there are two levels, I believe). Personally, because I was looking for the most inexpensive option near Times Square, and a private room merely for sleeping and keeping my stuff because I would be out for most of the days anyway, I was happy to have found this place.
Location and price are key”
Pro. You wont getter better value for money than here for the budget traveller. It was clean and supplied a basic breakfast which was nice. Con. No one seemed to abide by the 9pm-9am quiet time.....including the staff. Not a big deal but 7am in my opinion is a bit early. I wasn't too keen on the unisex bathrooms but it ended up being ok. There were only 3 showers but I only had to wait once in my 6 night stay. I think it would be different in peak season. There are cameras which are good for security however I felt like one of them looked partly in to my room which made me a bit uncomfortable (it might not have but I could see it when I sat on my bed. maybe it pointed another way. Only one staff member was super helpful. I didn't deal with her but I heard her helping and giving advise to a lot of other guests. I heard 1 of the male staff members telling someone not to waste their time going to Times Square as it's a tourist trap.....maybe so but seriously who says that!
The location is great, the staff is kind and the place is clean and agradable. The main problems are that the bathroom is too small, sometimes the hosts snore or don’t keep quiet late night and you can’t sleep well, and there are too many stairs to get to your room, what is really tiring and hard if you have bags. Besides that, the place is dangerous in case of fire because there is no quick emergency exit.
Good for solo traveler with small luggage”
The room is small and linked to each other so you should reconsider if you have big luggage and you are a light sleeper cause you can easily hear the snore of the man next door. Otherwise, I have nothing to complain about.
Good for a short stay”
Room is tiny so only good for a few nights - its like staying in the pod hotels in Japan so expect to hear your neighbours breath. The breakfast was very good considering.
Marvelous, simply marvelous.”
They helped with my luggage, offered Fruits and snacks, and there was the MOST DELIGHTFUL German Shepherd to welcome you to the premises. But it was rather bizarre that you weren’t allowed to use the microwave after 9pm or before 9 am. And u had to take a shower before 11 pm. Very strange indeed.
Cosy but "gosy"”
I know there's not such a word as "gosy" but it felt like a pre primary school hostel. Why does owner /manager hve too come in and sit and "check"on residents Nowhere on line has it been mentioned thst the premises is "vegetation " Alsobthatvtgeres a lot of stairs to get to the cabins
The rooms are small, with no ceilling, so every Little noise can be heard, but is good with ear plugs. The location is great, and the staff is wonderful
The place just won’t worth the money”
the rooms are way to small, and have zero Noise sealing. I could hear anything going on in the street, and the reception, and the cabins. The description of the room mentioned air conditioner, in reality- there is one general air conditioner to all the facility, who you cannot control, and the room is hot and highly stuffy. No one mentioned in the order that guests have to remain completely silenced during the night time, not to mention that it is not allowed to use the shower after 11 PM. I had a really bad experience. Will not come back and will not recommend.
