The location is great, the staff is kind and the place is clean and agradable. The main problems are that the bathroom is too small, sometimes the hosts snore or don’t keep quiet late night and you can’t sleep well, and there are too many stairs to get to your room, what is really tiring and hard if you have bags. Besides that, the place is dangerous in case of fire because there is no quick emergency exit.
Quiet and strange place.”
House is quite old. You need to climb to the 4'th floor. No elevator. Spacious floor with lots of thin-walled cubicles, called as rooms. Everyone must be quiet and it's an excellent experience in noisy NY. You can grab free fruits and tea on the floor. 2 Showers and toilets on the floor. BTW, meat and fish are forbidden in this place. The only customer who allowed to eat meat is to house-owner's dog (friendly-looking).
Cheap and great location”
It is as advertised, a cabin. Stayed there 5 days, and it was perfect location to visit the city. And great that it is small and not that comfortable, at least you spend time outside visiting the town!
Marvelous, simply marvelous.”
They helped with my luggage, offered Fruits and snacks, and there was the MOST DELIGHTFUL German Shepherd to welcome you to the premises. But it was rather bizarre that you weren’t allowed to use the microwave after 9pm or before 9 am. And u had to take a shower before 11 pm. Very strange indeed.
CHELSEA CABIN POOR”
Pros Very near penn station.. Great Lady very friendly checking in Cons Room size.. Very small Room condition basic and cheap Facilities none came to mind Price dear for room Really bad for the money Cheap and nasty is best I can say
If you in a pinch and are looking for a cheap place to stay for one night, and are willing to accept a cold-ish shower, no lifts, hearing other people’s coughing, talking and morning alarms, this is your place.
NY City downtown hotel on a budget”
From the outset, I knew I would have an extremely small room in this cabin style hotel. Upon arrival, staff were very welcoming. It felt like I was staying at a family run b&b. The location is great, 5 min walk from Penn station. Breakfast was adequate. This is an ideal cabin hotel if you intend to be out exploring most of the time and just need a clean, convenient place to rest for the night.
Good Location (3 mins walk from Penn Stataion) and safe stay ”
Room is small but have privacy. Open air, easily to here others days and nights. Bathroom and toliet are clean. Breakfast is better than expected: milk, coffee, cereal, toast, jam, butter, fruit and cookies. Wafer is available all day. No alcohol and meat in hostel.
Location and price are key”
Pro. You wont getter better value for money than here for the budget traveller. It was clean and supplied a basic breakfast which was nice. Con. No one seemed to abide by the 9pm-9am quiet time.....including the staff. Not a big deal but 7am in my opinion is a bit early. I wasn't too keen on the unisex bathrooms but it ended up being ok. There were only 3 showers but I only had to wait once in my 6 night stay. I think it would be different in peak season. There are cameras which are good for security however I felt like one of them looked partly in to my room which made me a bit uncomfortable (it might not have but I could see it when I sat on my bed. maybe it pointed another way. Only one staff member was super helpful. I didn't deal with her but I heard her helping and giving advise to a lot of other guests. I heard 1 of the male staff members telling someone not to waste their time going to Times Square as it's a tourist trap.....maybe so but seriously who says that!
Friendly staff, great location, unusual setting ”
Lovely staff. Near Pennsylvania Station. Cons: some guests talk loud on their phones early in the morning. Others slam doors and heavy footsteps can wake you up. Alarms and phone noises as early as 5am. The trellis that covers your cabin should be partially covered to block the light at night. Bring eye patch. Ear plugs provided. If you’re a light sleeper, I don’t recommend it. On a tight budget but needs to stay in downtown Manhattan, this is an option.
Pros good breakfast Cons poor internet Plenty of stairs steps especially stay on the upper level will be difficult for carrying heavy suitcase
Has some insufficiency but worth the money.”
Nice location. Personally, I like the feeling of living in small cabins. Affordable price. However, the connection and speed of the wifi are poor enough so that you really need your own data. The cleanliness is another problem: they probably don't wash the sheets quilts covers thoroughly that I found a few bed bugs on the bed, which is extremely disgusting. The sound insulation of each cabin is very poor. I can feel someone passes my door since the floorboards were moving. The water of the shower is very small so it will take a long time to complete a shower. Besides those insufficiencies, I like Chelsea Cabins and will recommend this to everyone.
not worth the price
A great place for backpackers”
Things are all true on the net: great location, friendly staff, small bed, poor walls. As long as you bring earplugs, things are a lot easier than it seems! Would recommend anyone if travels alone live here. One more word: better checking in in the morning, I came at near midnight and had a hard time finding the place while the doorbell wasn't effective. It was a person living on the second floor came to my rescue, thank him! (Chelsea Cabins is on the third so add it to your note!)
If one is looking for a simple place to sleep, this is a place to be considered. It's in an ideal location: walking distance to Times Square, Hell's Kitchen, Empire State Building, Macy's, and a few steps from the Penn Station. It's accessible but not bothered by the noise and busyness of Times Square and Broadway. The rooms are really just cubicle-types, with doors not reaching up to the ceiling, maybe to access the centralized airconditioning. So one may be bothered by people coming in and out of the doors, snoring at night, or the early-risers talking or banging the bathroom and toilet doors in the morning. Two bathrooms-cubicles and a toilet (with two sinks and three toilets in cublicles) are shared (per floor, as there are two levels, I believe). Personally, because I was looking for the most inexpensive option near Times Square, and a private room merely for sleeping and keeping my stuff because I would be out for most of the days anyway, I was happy to have found this place.
A good place on the eighth ave near subway station, quite convenient, right beside you got 711 and dining places. However, you might be woken up cause there is a sound you can hear when others checked in or take a shower.
Cramped with Thin Walls”
Don't recommend this place, despite it being cheaper and in a decent location, the facilities and room are small/dirty/cramped and the walls are paper thin! The person in the room next to me talked on his phone until 4a every night and I could hear every word!
Well location with poor equipment. ”
The hostel is well located in central city, which is quite good you can have subway and attractions around you, however the space of room it's pretty tiny.
Everything was good . Noisy when people check in at the midnight.
Good location & clean but no elevators ”
The only bad thing is it's at 1/F and there's no elevator so I needa carry my luggage all the way up the stairs....
