Excellent. Great cultural exposure.”
Architecture, gardens, cultural activities
I feel like being in a comfortable museum. Great architecture and traditional gardens. Opportunities to study traditional Chinese medicine and Taoist-Buddhist philosophies and arts. I recommend parents taking their children to visit the hotel for culture exposure and traditional spa experiences.

a little touristy but a little fun”
very Chinese style
My colleague was very excited when I fount this hotel and we decided to try it out. The accomodations are very nice with a lot of attention spent on the decorations. The staff is also very responsive. It is in a reconstructed area which is designed for visitors to learn about China/Chengdu. The original temple is still under reconstruction.

lovely hotel”
interior is on the dark sight
i love the old ancient courtyard style of the hotel that i had stayed in. its spacious and clean. however i find that the interior lightings is a little on the dim side... which i dun reli like. the whole area is very convenient as it is near town and easy to move around. would def stay in this hotel again if i visit chengdu. the rates are reasonable as well for such a great hotel.

Great hotel”
next to a temple
i would call myself an experienced traveller, got there with my son who is 46. we had a very large suit, 3 rooms and the bath. the furniture are out of this world, even an opium bank was there. one must see this place to understand how great it is, price is not bad. staff is very helpful, had a facial done there and the service was great. anyone who enjoys bonsai will enjoy all the gingkos etc in large pots there. the japanese restaurant serves a super sashimi. i recommend it with 100 plus points (and i ones stayed at the burj al arab in dubai.

For the experience of old China”
Exterior design
The room itself is nothing unique or impressive but the hotel is located in part of Chengdu where you could still imagine how the old days in China looked like. Which is pretty cool. The facade is also retained in an old traditional Chinese style which was very cool too. But thats all about it. Otherwise very average hotel.

Charming, period style hotel & relatively clean”
Clean, different & central
VERY VERY pleasant experience @ the Old Chengdu Club Hotel. The period charm was the main attraction to this centrally located hotel. We had the ground floor room that had some noise from stacking chairs from the hotel staff but other than that, it was very quiet. The upper floors where the other group stayed smelled of cigarette smoke, which of course was a nuisance, but the overall it was not your ordinary plain jane & even modern hotels that we've stayed prior to the OCCH. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Chengdu!

Close to markets”
close to markets, short stop to Panda Research Station
Our stay at this hotel was far too short, as a self contained little city there is lots to explore and with markets close by and the Chengdu research center in town ideal location for a stop over. We were pushed for time and really wanted to try the local food, but found it hard to communicate what we were looking for (good Sichwan food). There is restraint and bar onsite which we did not get a chance to visit and as it was raining did not get out too much the first day but the architectural design of the buildings in stone was amazing. We were able to arrange a taxi through the hotel to the panda research centre, or whole purpose of being in Chengdu so definitely would recommend......

Low construction density Hotel”
Low construction density, close to a Temple and to pedestrian street in the city Centre
The room was average, no bathtub and the shower 'box' was a bit small. The down side was a not so comfortable smell coming from the toilet, due to some drainage problem, I suppose due to the lack o siphon in the water drainage system. In the end, the price is high for the quality of the room provided. The SPA seemed quite nice, but no one could speak other language than Chinese and the menu was also in Chinese only, so after 10min of miscommunication I quit and went back to the room. The best part was the open corridors and small courtyards around the room wings and the Hotel location, in a pedestrian area, as well as close to a Temple.

Good value for money with a touch of history!”
Design, Location, Surroundings.
It was great. The design is awesome, you feel like you moved back in time to China from before the Revolution. A great place, if you love history, like I do. However, there's a few things you have to be mindful of: - most of the staff, including the front desk late at night, will be unlikely to speak any English - roomservice (esp. food) is not 24/7 - the minibar is poorly fitted - the place is very warm in the summer time (including the fridge) and there's no way to get it cooler (the minimum in-room temperature I got was 27 degrees Celsius) Once you get past those small things, it's awesome.

Uniquely furnished boutique hotel, great location”
Different to the usual big chains, friendly staff, lovely grounds, superb location
we had a short 2 night stay here while exploring the city and found the hotel and our room beautiful, uniquely furnished in the old chinese style. the staff were also very helpful and friendly although we found the lack of english (as in most other places around chengdu) made communication slightly tricky at times. the location in the wen shu monastery area was a perfect starting point for us, and is close to the metro station. would also recommend exploring the hotel grounds as the hotel is only a small part of the complex.

Not a hotel for tourist”
Nothing
They not come for airport transfer, they knew there is a client ask for it but just forgot to pick up. They can arrange tour for sight seeing but not for arranging Taxi to airport. If you need taxi, they will ask their security to wait if any empty taxi pass in front of the hotel. It's an easy call to taxi company but they don't know this thing is exist. The worst is they know a little about their city and surrounding area so don't ask.

Gorgeous compound, excellent service, a treasure”
Loved it all, the rooms, halls, staff, restaurants (4), antiques, bonsai, courtyards, all charming.
We stayed in a room more like an apartment, in pure antique Chinese style, with a modern fantastic bathroom. No windows, though, so we moved to a smaller version, with windows in the bedroom and a living room and again, fantastic modern bath. Three flatscreen TV's--bedroom, living room and in the wall above the bathtub! The shower was so wonderful we are going to copy it at home. The Old Chengdu Club has four superb restaurants. The main one we had breakfast in, delicious and full of antiques, screens, carvings, 6-foot-high vases. Charming, and the food was both Western and Chinese, with chefs on hand to make eggs and dumplings and noodles. The hotel is a museum itself, next to a monastery, within a restored section of Chengdu, so the surrounding area is all old China, with outdoor shops along the lanes. Very quiet at night, a grand retreat from the noisy big city outside the gates.

Very Chinese; very good services
I checked in late at night. The front desk staff cannot find my Agoda reservation despite I showed them the hotel voucher. Nevertheless, the front desk staff didn't just accommodate me but upgrade me to a spacious and roomy suite. It was a very pleasant stay. I will definitely stay with this hotel again next time when I visited Chengdu.

Everything about this hotel is superb”
Really Posh, Good location, Excellent Service!
i was staying in a youth hostel for a couple of days before moving in to a rather old hotel, then this, so my views might be biased, but still, it would not be a stretch to say that this is by far the best, most value-for-money hotel you could ever choose to stay in if you visit the lovely (if somewhat gray) city of chengdu. the staff could speak good english, so that's another plus point if you're non-chinese. the entire hotel itself is situated along a stretch of tourist attractions (notably wen shu monastery) and even the hotel itself could be something of an attraction, considering the architecture. you'll be spoilt for choice with their selection of chinese, western, japanese and korean restaurants, spa, swimming pool and gym, and the room itself will wow you with a meeting area for guests, accompanying tea set, and every modern comfort you could ask for in a 5-star hotel integrated seamlessly into the nostalgic ambience. at the end of my stay i lamented that i had only stayed one night, but i will most definitely be back again to experience all that old chengdu club has to offer!

great boutique hotel”
unique furnishing, good location
We stayed three nights at this boutique hotel which is part of a club. It was in a nice setting and the decor was very different from commercial hotels. Room was well equipped with jacuzzi and tv in bathroom. Facilities though was a little spread oit throughout the complex. Service was alright. We enjoyed our stay decided to host guest at the Chinese restaurant. That was a bad experience. Food service was slow and we had to cancel three dishes at the end. It was an embarrassment for us as host.

Charming hotel with nicely restored Chinese decor.”
Very nicely restored building and decors, charming courtyards. Feels like back in time!
The hotel provides a "wow" feeling to 1st time visitors staying in a hotel like this. The nicely restored buildings give one the feeling of "traveling back in times". Room is nicely decorated with all necessary amenities expected of a hotel of this price range. Slight oversight would be an umbrella (yes, was quite rainy in winter) with an "out of shape" frame and an electric kettle with water still in it. One will need to walk around the complex to find out where the other facilities are i.e. swimming pool, gym etc. Can be quite chilly (and rather inconvenient) during cold weather. Service is good if one is able to find a service staff. The hotel was rather quiet during the 2 days stay (not sure why) and it was rather rare to see other hotel guests. Location is within "文殊院" (Wen Shu Yuan) hence one can walk around the vicinity to soak in the old charm of old Chengdu. Food and shopping are average but has good picture taking backdrop. Overall experience is above average and will visit again if the service can be warmer and more personalized.

classy hotel w/ ancient (ming/qing dynasty) decor”
very clean, excellent presentation
we've never stayed in a hotel that had ancient non-western decor. it was a fantastic experience and we highly recommend it. the hotel is comprised of one city block of restored chinese mansions that are only 2 stories tall, complete with courtyards, gardens, classic cars. when you get in the main door, turn left to find the unmarked hotel lobby. don't go straight across to the courtyard to the nice building in front of you. that's a restaurant. the rooms are wonderfully decorated and spotless. but it's strange that there are no windows. we were very happy with the room. the exercise room and indoor pool area was amazing and completely deserted (we were there on a weekday). too bad we forgot to bring our swim suits. the complimentary breakfast for two was nice. great presentation and service, but the food itself was only okay. the front door man was "unable" to take our picture for us because he was working. but the side door man was much nicer and helped us take our picture.
