Takes commitment to stay at Chew Jetty, trading comfort for a unique cultural experience living among the jetty residents. However, as a home base for getting out and seeing what Georgetown has to offer, there is nothing out there like it. Pluses: Right in heritage area; hot water shower and traditional Malay shower; Western toilet; like living in history; two-room living space looks authentic; aircon in bedroom; fans in indoor/outdoor living spaces; host Cheah is awesome; opposite Jetty Food Court; fridge for water; decking outside rooms is great for observing jetty life; $20RM to/from airport via Grab Minuses: Can be noisy (restaurant opposite) and lacks privacy, but that’s how people live on the jetty; can be a bit smelly at low tide; not really a place to stay if you’re after extended downtime; locals will challenge you if you’re walking through the area outside of public visiting hours; can’t eat food in rooms

Wonderful stay on Chew Jetty!”
We enjoyed our 4-night stay and are glad we had a chance to meet Kid during the smooth check-in process. We loved getting a glimpse of life on Chew Jetty while being so close to the historical Georgetown, things to see and do, places to eat. The front patio with hammock is a great place to hang out and watch as the neighbors go about their activities. Kid's place is nicely decorated and comfortable. We were very glad for the opportunity to experience Chew Jetty beyond just a quick walk-through!

Great experience living in chew jetty! Pro: space was super clean and comfortable like our own home. Host was super nice and friendly. Living in thr midst of an attraction was interesting. Lots of food around, no need to worry abt getting hungry. Cons: Toilet is literally outside the house (but toilet is very clean). Every night got this uncle that acts as a security guard to prevent tourist from entering the jetty after 9pm. So every night we had to explain to the uncle we are staying inside, we aren't tourist. The main road is hard to cross road But overall we recommend this place

Memorable stay”
Excellent. I enjoyed every minute of my stay in Chew jetty home. A simple wooden house on the sea with comfortable beds and pillows. A patio where you can sit have your coffee was amazing. The place was really clean. A chance to watch the sunrise was a bonus. Location was good, walking distance to ferry jetty, bus stop. Food stall within walking distance. Wanted to extend my stay but the place was already booked. Staying in place which was established in the 19th century was a pleasure indeed. I would definitely stay here again.

TL;DR: It’s comfortable, you’ll get awesome views and an unforgettable experience. It’s located right at the back of Chew Jetty, a famous tourist hot spot, so that means you’ll get the views, the food and the experience. Worried it might be too noisy when you’re trying to get a good night sleep? Don’t worry the place closes for tourists at 9, it’ll be so peaceful that you’re gonna forget you’re on a vacation. It’s also within walking distance to most famous attractions (10-20 minutes), for both sight and taste. This place is truly in a league of its own, so enjoy yourself because I certainly have.

Authentic place in the sea”
We spend 2 amazing nights on this little house on an authentic and gorgeous jetty. The house is comfy and welll decorated. We can feel that the owner renovate this house with his heart and we felt like at home. This house have a perfect location, walking distance to all you need to see in George Town and far from the busy life, tourists and noise. All was perfect ! If we have to come again in Penang, we will come again in this house for sure.

This is a perfect place to stay. Right on the chew jetty with really nice neighbours. Beautifully restored old house plus a comfortable hammock. I had the house to myself luckily. Otherwise it could be a bit small. Or even more fun...

Lovely home right at Chew Jetty. Friendly hosts and neighbors. You can get a nice experience of life on the jetty. Toilet is nice and clean. Place was a bit hot but there is aircon in the room.

Chew Jetty ”
Pros: Quite a good location, fairly central to what we wanted to see, room was clean, house was clean and bathroom was clean. Check in was easy Cons: smelt of sewage from the water, bathroom is outside of the house and not even connected to it, plumbing goes straight into the ocean hence the smell. Door on bedroom didn’t lock from the outside and the spare key was in the postbox which anyone could open so didn’t feel overly safe. Never met anyone on check in or check out but communication was good. If you want a traditional Jetty House experience then I guess this is perfect but can’t say I would return. The smell could get quite bad. But it served a purpose for us and it fitted our budget so I don’t want to give it a terrible review as it wasn’t terrible it was just so so.

Beautiful authentic homestay”
I stayed for 3 nights but could easily spend 3 weeks here. The house is truly comfortable and clean. It is an authentic house located in the historical Jetty neighborhood. Hosts are kind and responsive. Location is central. I highly recommend.

A clean, cozy place with good location. Unique experience.”
The house was nice and clean, with a proper toilet outside the house. Fridge, kettle and AC. Livinroom is small, nicely decorated and cozy with plenty of books about Chinese architecture. Nice! The host was easy to deal with. He came in twice, to bring more toilet paper and to bring more water and coffee to the house. We were not sure if we would be the only guests living in the house. We were lucky to have the house just for ourselves(except the second bedroom) the first three nights, then the second bedroom had a guest as well. The patio area outside is really nice with a hammock. Good location, near Little India and nice cafes. We recommed this place to have a unique experience and feel the authentic atmosphere.

Nice and clean cosy home. Location is good. Can easily get good food around this area. If you are a light sleeper, then dont book here because it is quite noisy outside, you can hear people walking, running, talking and the ocean waves sound which makes me can't really sleep well. Toilet is outside of home - a bit inconvenient. Living room and hall - can be quite humid and hot as there are no airconds. Airconds only in the rooms.

Perfect place to immerse yourself to local culture. The place is comfortable, facilities are more than sufficient, important thing is it has aircon :) Overall it was a great stay with one small issue. It could get noisy with kids playing and running around in front of the house at 22.45.

Pros - Absolutely brilliant location. Very interesting area. Friendly introduction by owner. Cons - No wifi, No cooking facilities, No TV Pro / Con? - Haphazard collection of antique stuff ( or junk? ) takes up a lot of needed space.

Quiet & Homie Stay”
The house decoration is full of vintage items and it feels like u’re staying at someone’s house. But a bit creepy at night as the lights are dim and the surrounding is quiet. Also there’s a table altar, so don’t be surprise when u enter the house. Pros 1) The location is nearby to all the attraction visits. 2) There’s a few eateries outside (foodcourt, food stalls & restaurant) 3) 2-3 temples to visit Cons 1) Difficult to find carpark, even the nearest is opposite the road that charges overnight rate RM15 and per entrance during the day RM6. 2) There’s no hair dryer/towel provided (unsure if the host forget to prepare)
