Clean place in quiet neighbourhood. Need transport to most of Chiang Mai attractions ”
Pro : quiet, relaxing, clean, transport nearby Con : quite far from major attractions and local food outlets. Will need to reserve money for transport
The old grandeur is starting to show its age! ”
Found quality for money, yet its age has taken its toll. Higher end hotel, an old icon of its day, yet needs a lot restoration work. The rooms are pleasant, but have fallen into disrepair. The staff are well trained and professional, proactive to assist and know their service to their patrons well. The Lobby would be the best well maintained part of the hotel. The facilities are still impressive, particularly the modern gym and well maintained swimming pool. Breakfast is old style buffet breakfast, moderate and typical. In house restaurant is quality Chinese cuisine, dishes such as shark fin, at very lavish prices. which seemed to cater well to their Chinese and Korean business guests. Overall a pleasant stay as location was convenient to shops and night life.
This older hotel has been a good option for staying near the hospital area and the rates are reasonable. The hotel is a bit old, but through maintenance has managed to avoid the damp mildew that we have discovered in other seasoned hotels. The room is ample and the staff are nice. The breakfast option is top notch.
Chinese tourist aplenty and best location”
You can walk to Maya Mall and Old City from here. 20-25 minutes brisk walk. It's that convenient. Swimming is beautiful at sunset and breakfast is fit for a king. The carpet stinks so that's a downer. Hope someone does something about that soon. Thursdays to Saturdays, there's a food fair right in front of Central Plaza. Good selection of local delights. And opposite that, a row of Thai pubs and bars for the thirsty travellers. 7-11 and Top Supermarket nearby. Scooter rental shop too for those looking to try their luck riding around the moat. I just wish the skinny parking lot attendant guy would stop asking me if I want boom boom every time he sees me walking out to my bike. For the very last time, no boom boom for me.
This hotel has the old style charm. They have very clean rooms and always great staff. The lobby bar is always open whith great drinks and very friendly staff. I always stay here. May be 10 to 15 times each year.
Great hotel to stay at. Very clean and great customer service
Location & facilities.”
Good location, hotel, facilities, all you need for Chiang Mai.
Good around hotel.”
Good hotel, location, facilities.
Nice hotel but a little pricey, its a bit old so is a bit 'tired' looking, breakfast on the terrace on Huey Keow road was nice, staff were real good. But A great location for us and what we wanted to do in CNX
Great pool and location”
Being right next to the Kad Suan Kaew mall is so convenient for eating and transport, and the pool was appreciated (though full-sun most of the day). Breakfast buffet was nothing special so all-in-all the price seemed a bit high to me.
Hotel showing its age but still good”
30 years ago this was the top hotel in Chiangmai. The rooms and the facilities still show that quality but it is showing its age and it needs some renovation. It is close to some of the big shopping centres, restaurants, the airport and the hospital. I cannot comment about the food as we did not eat at the hotel. We would stay at this hotel again.
Very good value for the money”
Chiang Mai is full of lower-cost hotels, but many are dumps. Chiang Mai Orchid hotel is just fine, and a great value in my opinion. Our basic superior room was large, beds comfortable but pillows are average, and reliable wi-fi but needing frequent re-login. The bathroom is clean enough but not pristine, water pressure is real good, and hot water is not a problem at all during long showers! The basic buffet breakfast that came with our room was a step up over most lower-cost hotels - with actually quite nice multi-grain bread for toast, yoghurt, musli, and the usual a variety of Asian vegetable dishes and stir-fry, and soups. Coffee is good and strong, and fresh milk was always on the buffet table. A very large pool looked great, but I somehow did not get to use it. My bad. The location right next to the huge Kad Suan Keow plaza is also a big plus in my opinion - you can find Starbuck, Pizza Company, Black Canyon Coffee and other chains there plus the inevitable massage services, gadget shops, handicrafts, a basic local food court, and a full supermarket. Staff throughout the building seemed pretty friendly and helpful when something is requested. We would stay here again, and probably will.
old world and comfortable”
I was stunned on arrival to find I had a $40 bed in a hotel that has also hosted Princess Diana, the Emperor of Japan plus, plus. Very good value off-season rate. This place is big, but didn't feel like a barn. For a hotel of this size, the personal and considerate service provided by some of the staff was exceptional.
PROCESS CHECK IN CHECK OUT : FAST. NICE ROOM, CLEAN, GOOD WIFI. WALKING DISTANCE to SHOPPING AREA (NIMANHEMIN ROAD). CAN WALK to MAYA SHOPPING MALL. Beside is KADSUANKAEW Sopping mall. Also near with 7-11. Only Things that i not like is FITNESS (is quite old) and swiming pool (Sometime if have event i can not use it because of not clean) NICE FOOD.
Great hotel, bad water supply”
We stayed 2 nights in November. This is the 5-6 time that we stay here. Sadly, this time they had big problem with water supply that was contaminated with dark rust. It was not good enoughh to place a notice that the problem would be rectified 3 days after we left. We had to run the tap for awhile to get visibly clear water. There are a number of hotels in Chiangmai. We will definitely consider other hotels next time.Another major problem was the internet. The WiFi allowed only one connection per room. Are you serious in this day and age? Moreover, the connection was not very good. On the positive side, the room was partially renovated.
Great stay as always”
I stay at this hotel almost every time I come Chiang Mai. Close to ever thing in Chiang Mai, Great hotel service, nice clean rooms, good breakfast, next to a large Mall and many restaurants to visit and eat,
One of the best hotels to stay in, in Chiangmai, ”
I stay at this hotel at least once a month, The best hotel in Chiangmai, great service, very clean, great location for down town. I will be staying there again next week. Best price for the beat rooms in Chiangmai. Well worst the money. The staff is outstanding.
budget price, budget room”
The stay was fine, the room was not anything like what was shown or amenities listed. There was only one outlet that worked, lighting was adequate, but not great. However, it was cheap and convenient, so it was sufficient.
Familiar value for money hotel in good position”
This is the 3rd booking for us at this hotel having been to Chiangmai on quite a few occasions. We always seem to end up in a shopping area most days so why not stay next to one... This is a larger shopping area but older has cinema and 10 pin bowling both a bit tired! We were looking for a relaxed stay on this occasion but missed out as the hotel was being renovated (overdue probably) new floor coverings, taps and drapes in the room we stayed already done made it more comfortable but noisy as the floors above we getting a similar treatment
Great Hotel in Central Chiang Mai”
Overall, the CM Orchid Hotel is a great economy option in the middle of the city.Breakfast is excellent and staff are incredibly attentive. The main reason why I think this should be considered a 3-star hotel instead of a 4-star hotel is because the rooms, bathrooms and hallways haven't been updated in what seems like 20 years! That said, everything is maintained and very well-cleaned.
