Amazing staff and great value accomodation”

            staff, price, quiet

I stayed several times at Chiangmai Backpack House over the past 2 weeks. I kept coming back because the owners are such lovely, accommodating people! The dorms are very good value too. The female dorm was quiet, the beds are quite comfortable and it's very safe as each bed as a locked space (bring your own padlock). The rooms giving on the street are more noisy but nothing unbearable. Cleanliness was on par with what I've seen in most budget places in Thailand : not the best, but nothing horrible either. Wifi was good most of the time, though it slowed down at peak hours. The location is quite alright : Chiang Mai's old city (which is where most things to visit are) is really not that big. Very cheap food at Chiang Mai's gate, and very close to the Saturday Night Market. I booked a tour with them (the walking only tour offered by Panda Tours) and they gave me a good deal. The tour itself wasn't the best but that's not the hostel's fault. I could leave my bag with them during the stay. You can also book a minivan for Pai. Efficient laundry service. I would definitely go back there if I ever come back to Chiang Mai.

The best guesthouse I've stayed at!”

Clean, safe, friendly, awesome people, amazing couple who runs it, great food and coffee...

Chiangmai Backpack House is the place to live in Chiang Mai. The dorms are fresh and not to big and well looked after. Several toilets and showers with hot water. The food is absolutley awesome and the coffee is probably the best that I've had in Thailand so far (which is about 5 w, and I'm from Sweden so I know good coffee when I taste it ;) ). But the greatest thing about this guesthouse is none of the abowe. It's the people that work there. It is run by an amazing family who really takes care of you. They are truly friendly and makes you feel that you are a part of their own family. Not only are they looking after you they want to make you feel like you're home. So many nights that I've stayed up talking to the couple who owns and runs the guesthouse :) their english is really good and they are the nicest people! I've had a great time at chiangmai backpack house. This is the place to be!

Wonderful staff good rooms for price. Perfect location next to the old city and near 3 night markets”

Pro- Amazing staff with lots of info for driving /trips to different locations. Good breakfasts. Owner allows you to leave bags in the hostel for a couple of days if you want to travel light for a bit to different cities. Safe clean rooms and sitting area. Funny bird as you walk in and out who will say many different phrases and greet you. Parking for your scooter and a few bikes for rent Con- bathroom is ocasionally wet from showers and some beds are slightly uncomfortable. My stay- I spent roughly 10 days at the hostel. And traveled out of chaingmai for days at a time. When i got back all my items were untouched and exactly as i left them. The owner gave lots of advice on what to see along the way what to be careful for and gave good directions to local attractions, markets and destinations outside chiang mai. I loved my time at the chiangmai backpack house and would highly recommend for non luxurious solo or group travel.

            Great value for money!!!!”

            Helpful staff (owners)

I stayed there for a whole week after noticing the advantages of this place. Most of all I enjoyed the talks with the owners who - besides that - never hesitate to give great and helpful advice or hints to activities and facilities etc. Moreover this is a perfect place for solo travellers because you can meet lots of other travellers all day long in the nice entrance area. The Chiang Mai Backpack House is situated on the road just outside the old city walls but when staying in the dorm I didn't hear any of the street noises. A walk to the centre of the city and to a huge variety of restaurants and sights takes only a few minutes. A small street market is just a 1 minute walk to the other side of the street and down the road you can find a perfect little french bakery with very good coffee (Baan Bakery)!!! The common areas, dorms and bathrooms are clean even if it is not spotlessly. But for the offered price I cannot expect the rooms to be cleaned every single day and it depends on the cleanliness of the guests as well!!! You get a towel and clean linen. I didn't eat there a lot but coffee and snacks are all right. I wouldn't hesitate to book there again! Thank you for the great time in Chiang Mai!!!

The owners, the scooters, & the location

My stay at Chiangmai backpack house was great! The owners are so kind and helpful. I really enjoyed meeting them. They also rented a motor scooter to me for very cheap, and taught me how to ride it confidently. The location is perfect in old city for walking and right near the markets.

(more than) a home away from home”

            staff, location and staff

a great central location near the chiang mai gate. easy walking distance to main attractions (including the saturday and sunday night markets) comfortable beds in the dorms, with lockers under each bed (but bring your own locks). wifi works well, both downstairs and in the rooms. warm water for showers if needed the guesthouse allows you to bring food from outside and warm it for you (very kind!). they will also securely mind your luggage for you if you decide to head out for a few days (8 in my case!) plenty of activities to keep you busy and entertained. if you are at a loss as to what to do or what to choose from the many (MANY!) offers available, ask any of the friendly and helpful staff or the owners, tony and amy (oil) will definitely stay here again, you'll be well looked after. highly recommended!

            Ok hotel, great owners!”

Cheap, has attached restaurant n coffee shop.

stayed at chiangmai bh while i toured north thailand and it was a cheap place to stay, with a nice lobby/common area where u could meet other travellers who were nice and social. nice place if u r travelling alone. but the hotel/hostel isn't the cleanest i saw in my travels in thailand. infact, i would rank it among the lowest whent it came to cleanliness. the toilets weren't the cleanest i've seen, with wet toilet paper everywhere. the floor was a little slimy in the common bath on the floor, there was hair blocking the drainage. ( i do realise that most of these are because of the guest, but when u have loads of people in the hotel, that is bound to happen). and the floor in the dorm; i stayed in the ladies dowm, was dirty, with paper, and dust and mud from people's shoes and wasn't cleaned everyday. you know coz u see a perticular spcec or shoe print one day n the next, its still there. other than that, everything else was nice. the owners are an amazing couple, n their little daughter is the sweetest little person. they r helpful n friendly and really nice. they have a laundry service where they take your clothes for you when you give it at the reception and thats cheap too. they have a restaurant with decent food which can be a blessing if you reach chiang mai after a long flight/ train journey and dont want to actually explore the area for places to eat. they do bike/motorbike rentals and the rates are quite competent. and like every guesthouse in the area, they also arrange tours, though i didn't use them.

            Location, Location, location

We arrived in Chiang Mai at 6 am so the hostel door is still locked. We resorted to go for breakfast and came back at 7.30am and was told that they will allow us to check in at 10am. They allowed us to use their washroom to refresh and rent us their bicycles and we went for Yoga. The female dorm was huge however there was only one fan and the Window is quite far from the sleeping area making the heat trapped in the room (it was 39deg in Chiang Mai when we were there). The bathroom was a bit dirty but great shower.

.Great location (at the mouth of Chiang Mai's Old City so pretty central). Good vibe. It is not a 4-5 stars hotel so don't expect the rooms to be of high quality even though they are pretty neat. Quality hosts and very good place to chill out

I stayed here for songkran and it was great. Area wasn't terribly busy but there is a great market for street food close by and it definitely gets some action. Atmosphere was awesome and I met great people. Tony and his family and staff were extremely helpful and efficient. Facilities were meh but they cleaned frequently and there were actually no roaches. I would definitely stay here again when I'm in Chiang Mai.

Great price, great location, good stay”

This place is a great location right near Chiang Mai Gate and the saturday market. The price was awesome & the staff was quite friendly

The stay was good. I didn't love it, I didn't hate it. When checking in they couldn't find my reservation but fixed it instantly, super awesome & helpful! It has old cafeteria looking floors & grungy walls... But who cares?!? The bed was quite comfy & the fan was alright. I feel you can pay the same price for an airconditioned room so I perfer that. You can lock valuables under the bed, but the main door doesn't lock from the outside. It was always open when everyone was away which was odd. The bathroom was good but sometimes the shower would backup... Still not a big deal! Overall I had a great stay!
