Great location out of town, with pool by the lake shore”
Nearby road is a little noisy, but does not detract from the well appointed rooms. Pool a boon for cooling off after a day's sightseeing. Great for a walk to Hyde Park and the University area. Free shuttle fab for going downtown with limited numbers. Otherwise Route 6 bus gives fast access in to town for 3 dollars. Nearby restaurant offers fab food and a good breakfast buffet for 8 dollars. Sunday brunch from 11 to 4 is a must. If you have children it is a great place to stay to visit the Windy City and enjoy some down time by the pool and lake shore at a good price.
My check-in was quick and easy due to Gabby's cheerful and professional demeanor. I parked right n front of my room which was very clean and spacious. The bed was very comfortable. While the other furniture was dated, it was all functional. A restaurant is steps away and the property is located just off of Lake Shore Drive--about 6 minutes from Soldier Field
good enough, cheaper than alternatives in the same location”
used it for event at university of chicago. not fancy but less expensive than other options and within walking distance. they also provide shuttles twice a day to get into downtown saving hassles of driving and parking.
The hotel was great and so was the staff. Very polite, very helpful. I will definitely be returning here the next time I travel to Chicago.
Great lake view hotel with comfortable environment”
It's great to see a smile when you first entered the hotel. Although there is no waiting personnel at the door to assist us to enter the hotel. The basic service is still good. Hotel staff quality isn't that consisitent. Some are cold and some are warm. The nearby cafe service contains the buffet good enough to give plenty energy to start with your day. Servers are good at the cafe. Not recommending those travelers with young children. The services maybe not kids friendly, the environment is good for business traveling, conventions and conferences.
Great location and travel options”
Great hotel to visit the museums. Free shuttle to the museums and driver was very nice! We took Uber’s back to hotel from there. Reasonably priced for the location. Pool had not been cleaned and facilities could use updating.
A bit too miserable stay”
I stayed here for a conference in McCormick Place. I chose this place because the price was very competitive, but I will most likely avoid this place in the future. I think the location was good: in front of the lake, near a Metra station. They have shuttle services to and from McCormick Place, although they were not available one day during my stay. Alternatively, it's about 10-minute train ride from the downtown and there is Whole Foods near the station. There is a restaurant next door, which was subpar. My biggest complaint is that the motel is built so cheap. A hallway with an exterior door and stairs is shared by 6 units. I was on the ground floor and was constantly disturbed by the noise from the door and the stairs. I was never able to sleep well. Also, there was no fridge and it was really inconvenient. All in all, I probably won't stay here next time.
Hotel advertises no frills which is exactly accurate, however the staff seemed disinterested in help”
For a one night stay in busy Chicago the rooms are sufficient. The TV was fuzzy and the phone preset buttons did not work. The staff seemed disinterested in anything but check in and out. I asked for a wine key and was told to go to the cafe. When I arrived and asked for the wine key at the cafe I was told I had to bring the bottle to the cafe and they would open it. I clearly had an ID and room key and felt this was a bit ridiculous and not good service.
Needs upgrading from 50 years ago”
Near the city and clean and Tidy. Room needs updating from the 70s. Even the tv had no usb port in 2018. No hotel bar as shown in the pictures. Staff working their looked depressed. If your going to charge $150 - $250 per night you need to address these issues. Not the best but far from the worst...
booked a double queen bed and got a double full”
Booked on line, pictures showed the hotel next door, room was clean but who are you kidding as a couple sleeping in a full bed is very uncomfortable instead of a break from home was restless. Came in too late and too tire to go back and fight about it. Be hones on the size bed and dont put picture from another hotel this is fraud.
not where you want to be if you have options, but you'll survive for a night”
The sole staff person able to check people in was out getting lunch when we arrived. When they came back, they mentioned we were lucky b/c they were overbooked and we got the last room. It's really closer to a "motel" than "hotel" -- one exterior door for each set of four rooms, two up, two down. The carpet felt like we should not walk on it barefoot. There was no soap, and when I went to the front desk to point this out, I was just given a fistful, with no apology or recognition that there should have been soap. While I was there, I also got more shampoo, since we were only given one tiny bottle for a room with multiple people staying. The slot for a tissue box was empty of tissues. The back of the toilet sprayed water all over the bathroom when we flushed it. This was slightly less of a problem than it sounds in that the floor wasn't level, so after spraying us the water pooled up away from where we were walking.
The hotel was noy up to my standards”
At best I can only say Average slightly below average. Like I said before Im usually in much larger hotels. It was noy up to my standards. I did sleep well unfortunately I can only say that. Everything was too expensive. I mean a 120z can of soda was 1.00 come on !?!
Very dated and poor value”
The website photos were of both the Lakeshore Hotel and the adjacent/sister property La Quinta which is much more modern. It's not clear from the Agoda listing that the Lakeshore is a low-rise motel around a carpark. Rooms are very dated with a dirty looking carpet, ancient chairs and a 1980s bathroom. When I arrived the room (ground floor with a window onto the carpark) was unloacked, freezing cold, damp and smelt of smoke despite being a non-smoking room. The positioning also worried me in terms of safety as a solo female traveller but i was told there were no other options by a very brusqe receptionist. The pool is nice but needs some TLC, the restaurant is again like something from the 1980s. It's also a $20 Uber from downtown so while not expensive it just isn't worth it.
Check in staff said there was $25 security deposit, needed a card, for a reservation that was prepaid with Agoda, then proceeded to put a hold over $500 on the card, not the $25 that was communicated, because she didn't realize it was prepaid, and never communicated that she was charging the room rate for 3 days plus the $25, she ran the card through first. That hold remained on from Friday till after check-out and the woman that did this was completely unhelpful. No manager on duty till the next day and though the transaction was voided it was over a weekend and didn't take effect till Monday. No apology for the inconvenience. No effort to make up for this mistake nor inconvenience. This is not a hotel class accommodation, its motel class, be aware.
relaxing, comfy, clean room, resonably priced ”
Terrific! Staff were very helpful with our questions. Restaurant food was yummy. Nice pool.
Nice hotel with no frills”
The stay was fine. I needed a hotel close to where I was going no frills required and this hotel met my needs.
I really like our stay one of the lady staff members on the night crew was kinda mean.
Needs Maintenance ”
Paint on ceiling blistering off, moldy smell. Free shuttle limited to 12 and it’s shared with adjacent LaQuinta Inn. On positive, WiFi was strong and fast. Location to Lakeshore Park is great.
Pretty nice but didn't have refrigerator or microwave that was cons for our stay!
Small room, should be about $69 ”
In town for funeral. For 1 or 2 days. Certainly not worth $100 total for 1 night.
