Restaurants around all closed at 19:00

An adventure.
We were able to easily book to go to the Plain of Jars which was our reason for visiting this town.
In our opinion, the Hotel was sub-standard. We had to eat our breakfast in the foyer of the Hotel as there was no dining room. Breakfast was late on the morning we had booked our tour and the morning we departed for our next destination. The ability to communicate with most of the staff was difficult with the exception of one young man. But this is a very poor country so our standards were probably a bit too high.

Couldn't wait to leave
Internet and Location
Staff don't speak / understand english but smiled alot. If your only reason to visit Phonsavan is Plain Of Jars I would spend money on flight in and out on same day.

Good, not great
Location was within walking distance to good restaurants in a small town. Main selling point was the price.
We called the cleaning staff "The Merry Maids" because of their loud laughter and chatting early in th morning in the hallways. The king-sized bed was extremely hard. The bathroom had lots of mould from various water & toilet leaks. Room was very small & basic. Reception was friendly & helpful, but spoke no English. Hotel was okay to stay for two nights while we visited the Plain of Jars.

A little rough around the edges
Front desk staff were very helpful
Our stay at the Chittavanh was an adventure. The shower in the room next to ours flooded which resulted in a flood in our room. When we asked to be moved to a dry room they said they had no available rooms although when we said they would need to find us a room in another hotel a room became available. Some of the communication was complicated by language barriers, we don't speak Laotian and not all members of the staff could speak English. We were surprised to learn that Agoda had give our name to a local tour agency. This resulted in them picking us up at the airport and then "selling" us a package tour. While the tour arrangements worked out fine, the sharing of our information was not appropriate. On our final day the hotel staff went above and beyond to assist us in getting to the mini-van station. Our scheduled driver had forgotten to pick us up, but the staff saved the day. We also enjoyed the provided hot breakfast every morning.

hotel ok, but not clean
staff tried to help
the hotel did not have the reservation in place, because e-mails were not read in advance. the room which was offered was not clean. neither the room nor the rest room resp. toilet was not cleaned when we arrived. in general the hotel was ok for the prive. due to low season we were the only guests.

beautiful hotel on the riverbank
nice decoration
The hotel is beautiful and the location is great, but to tell the truth I won't stay here again. There are other hotels next to the river in much quieter areas. We stayed in another building some meters away from the main one, so I had to walk to the main building for breakfast or to ask for something (no telephone in the room). The area in front of this building has been chosen by some drunkards to play loud Lao music and drink and sing in a terrible way but luckily they get drunk enough by 20:00 and then leave. Other than that, it's an agreeable place to stay, but I'll try another hotel in my next trip to Luang Prabang.
