Booked it on agoda few months before departing, the price is worth and the hotel is near by the ice fall festival. The breakfast and dinner included are nice and lots of choices . Everything is good but need to pay the bathtub tax before leaving ...

Wonderful resort and value for money onsen”
The breakfast and dinner was great and included in the room rate. The onsen was the most sulfuric onsen we have tried in Hokkaido. I loved how we got to use their sister hotel's onsen - and personally find Choyo Resort Hotel to be a better place to stay compared to its sister hotel.

hotel provide shuttle bus to the sounkyo festival . Public onsen is great .. they have great international buffet dinner and breakfast. you must try thier ice cream in thier buffet corner. (rich -milk taste) . we have a great scenery during our breakfast when you can see snow falling outside. beautiful

Hot Springs Inn in Sounkyo”
I'm quite pleased with Choyo Resort Hotel. They have shuttle service (reservation required) from JR Sapporo to the resort. Upon arrival, my check in was already pre-administered, and i was shown to my room within minutes. My room package included both buffet breakfast and dinner, (you have options to dine at Choyo-Tei if you want). But I feel the food at Choyo Resort during Dinner was much better. The only bad thing was that there is only wifi in the lobby, and if you sit around long enough, the cigarettes smell irritates you.

Clean atmosphere + you can request Free shuttle bus from/to Sapporo and from/to Asahikawa Schedule from Sapporo to Choyo is 11.30 at JR Sapporo north exit. Schedule from Choyo to Sapporo or Asahikawa is 09.30 + Outdoor Onsen + Excellent buffet (dinner and breakfast) - No wifi at room - Location is far away from city, need special transportation. Can't go anywhere, just enjoy your resort (onsen).

Lovely Ryokan”
We arrived at Sounkyo in the middle of heavy snowfall. The staff were really well-organised, preparing a special check-in table for those who arrived by shuttle bus - top marks. Everything was laid out and explained to us clearly, including a timetable for shuttle bus services to the sister hotel Choyotei, where we could access the public bath for free! Also, shuttle services to the Sounkyo Ice Falls festival (which was pretty spectacular, by the way). We were also told with much enthusiasm about the daily bingo game and additional massage/hot stone services (optional). Having read reviews on the conditon of their rooms, I was very much pleasantly surprise to find mine was absolutely awesome - spacious enough for at least 4, with a breathtaking view, full fledged amenities and amazing bedding. It even had its own outside gate! The onsen was pleasant as well. The food was just ok, though; it had a very mass produced feel.

An Onsen Resort that popularly known by tourists”
Choyo Resort Hotel is strategically located and it is near to the Daisetsuzan Ropeway Station. The hotel also provides free suttle to Choyotei Resort which is nearby so that the guests can enjoy both sides of onsen. As the hotel is popularly known by tourists, and the hotel always serves big groups, so it is kinda crowded and lack of privacy.

Hotel failed to honour booking”
I booked 2 rooms, 1 Japanese style and 1 Western style room a few weeks ago and received confirmation email from Agoda. The 2 rooms are meant for two couples (me and wife, plus brother and wife). However just a few days prior to arrival, I got a call from Agoda that the hotel was fully booked. Hotel could only offered me 1 suite, consisting of 1 Japanese room and 1 Western room combined. This meant the 4 of us had to share 1 bathroom and toilet. To compensate, hotel offered us 1 private onsen, and 1 portion of Tabara crab for each of us. Alternatively, I could cancel the booking. I had not much choices but to accept the 1 suite as I did not have sufficient time to search for alternate hotel last time, as the Sounkyo area was remote. I am not happy that hotel did not honour the original booking. About the hotel, the room view was great, facing the stream and forest. All the expected amenities were provided. The buffet breakfast and dinner offered a wide spread of Japanese and Western food. I also enjoyed the hot spring bath. Free wifi was only available in the lobby, but was super slow at times. This hotel is also crowded and noisy in public areas, as it catered to tour groups. For future visit, I’ll probably try other hotels.

First trip to Hokkaido”
Overall, great stay. Located near the Sounkyo Gorge ropeway and we have a good view of rushing streams and rocky hill. Dinner and breakfast included for our room. Dinner buffet was great with crab legs and a fairly wide spread. Breakfast also very good. Hotel provides Onsen at no extra charges. Bit too crowded though. Hotel has a convenient store , gift ship and a small arcade section. Appreciated the convenience.

Worth every cents! ”
Love every bits offered by this resort - from the 3.5h transportation from Sapporo, half board meal, to and fro shuttle bus to Sounkyo Ice Festival, hot drink at the festival, 1h transportation to Asahiyama Zoo to indoor and outdoor Onsen experience. Very recommended.

Spectacular view from hotel room but lacks charm ”
This hotel is nice but it feels like it's more catered to group tours, the moment you step into the lobby you'll be surprised to hear noises from tourists travelling in groups or incentives; however, the view from hotel room is very nice with beautiful Fall Foliage and incredible creek running across. The hotel offers complimentary indoor/outdoor hot spring and if you're staying 2 consecutive nights they'll let you dine at sister hotel up on the hill within the package provided. Food nonetheless isn't all that great but filled with a wide range of choices at the sister hotel. Hot spring at sister hotel is more modern and newer but outdoor hot spring at Choyo Resort Hotel is more charming with view of Fall Foliage during my stay.

Good resort besides a stream. We saw deers came to drink water in the morning!”
Memorable place to stay while you are in Sounkyo. Great atmosphere. From the room, if window is opened, you can clearly hear the beautiful nature sound of the stream down bellow. We even spotted deers came down from the mountain to drink, what a rare sight to behold. Room itself was nice and clean, albeit on the small side but quite adequate nonetheless. we have booked the room with beds on the flloor (Don't know what do they call this type of room) and get to eat breakfast and dinner at a Swiss restaurant, considerably less crowded that the main restaurants where Chinese tourists were gathered with long queues. Onsen was great as well as souvenir shop on the ground floor which stays open till late.

Front staffs are professional. They are able to recommend and answer our question quite reliable and reasonable. Bus between sister hotel make our life easier to participate "Sounkyo Miracle Illuminate" even though the Event itself is small and unattractive.

7 minutes walk to Sounkyo Town”
I enjoyed the onsen overlooking the scenic forest just behind the hotel. Took the ropeway at the town centre to view the autumn leaves. Scenic and beautiful place. Next morning, hired a car for ¥3,350 to see the Ginga falls. Half an hour to and fro is sufficient. The complimentary transport to and from sapporo station to hotel is worth it. Otherwise it cost you ¥6,340 (1 way) to take a bus from Sounkyo bus terminal to Kamikawa station and transfer JR to Sapporo Station.

compared to all the others, the Choyo Resort at the time was very good value for money, facility is a bit out dated, but that is probably a general trend for resorts in the area.
