Luxury in the Wilderness”

Beautiful design and layout, spacious and comfortable cabins, friendly, relaxed but attentive staff

We stayed for 2 nights, booked on the spur of the moment seeing a flash sale on Agoda. We couldn't have been happier with our Jungle Cabin - it was spacious, comfortable, well designed and they have thought of almost every little detail. From the mosquito plug-in to the huge umbrellas waiting by the door, these little touches made our stay. The open plan reception and communal areas of the hotel are beautifully decorated and inviting and the pool/bar area overlooking the lake filled with crocs and water buffalo is immaculately kept, even after a torrential downpour! The cabins are scattered through the woodland so the only intrusions to your peace and quiet are the monkeys jumping on your roof. The dinner buffet is vast and varied with a huge range of delicious Sri Lankan and International dishes, and the wine list is very reasonable. Staff went above and beyond to accommodate any request and were always on hand to escort you after dark and shoo buffalo from the doorstep. The gates into Yala National Park are just a few minutes from the hotel so you maximise safari time and arrive before the park gets crowded. I'd recommend Cinnamon Wild Yala to anyone - a beautiful hotel in beautiful surroundings.

Best in the neighbourhood”

Service, Nature and Cleaniness

We were visiting the Yala National Park and we were impressed by the wonderful reviews given to Cinnamon Wild Yala.. and it certainly did not disappoint. For 2 nights, we were treated to exceptional service, comfortable rooms (think oasis within a desert), clean and high quality food served at both the bar and the restaurant. There was a nice pool as well. For those who are looking for a off-the-beaten-track exeprience, cinnamon is the place for u. you will be very close to wildlife, alligators, monkeys, squirrels, elephants.. but you will be safe, of course. The only difficulty we had was the transport there, would be great if the resort could provide airport transfer, or at least transfer from colombo. we hired a driver and it took us 6 hours by car to get there. Not sure if the driver took the wrong way, or if would be better to fly to a nearby airport at mattala (flight timings are limited).

Enjoyable and relaxing”

Location, Staff & Rooms

We only stayed in Cinnamon Wild for 1 night. Its one of the most popular hotels in Yala National Park so it is packed with groups and tourists from all over. If you are not into that, you better skip it! You are surrounded by nature and animal so it is very relaxing. It is located in the middle of the National Park so it was convenient to start a Safari from there (you can book at the hotel or anywhere else around it). The hotel gave a room free of charge to our driver - which is quite common in Sri Lanka - and a discount on the food. You are advised not to leave your room alone after 6pm to avoid encountering wild animals. The food.. International Buffet for dinner. Not great but good enough. It is the most expensive hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka though. I believe it is because of Yala being one of the most popular tourist spots in the country.

Spend more than one-night at the hotel if you have time”

The good- 1) Ambiance / decor- a charming village-style hotel that is designed to blend into the safari seamlessly. It is rustic but yet has a modern touch to it. 2) Night safari- we didn't manage to go on the night tour because it was raining that evening. However, we had a taste of the night-vision goggles (walking around in the hotel with the guide), and the experience was fantastic. It is not easy to get hold of night goggles in Sri Lanka (If I am not mistaken, the purchase and ownership is govt regulated) and they are the only hotel (as far as we know) to offer night safari with these infrared goggles. 3) Food- good quality and spread. The not-so-good- The service- Overall, we had a pleasant experience. The staff was nice and friendly. However, a series of small incidences made us feel that the service level pales in comparison to our other hotel experiences on this trip. E.g. couldn't seem to call through to the main desk from the room, service staff coming knocking on our door early in the morning to check on mini-bar. Nothing major, just small inconveniences. All-in-all, amazing experience. Will strongly recommend my friends and family to stay at Cinnamon Wild Yala.

Beautiful hotel in the wild place ...”

close to the wildness and interesting place

i spend two night at chaaya wild yala in july. i was told by the driver the hotel was nice and it is in the wildness ... it truely is in the wildness. each hotel room are little nicely designed hut among bush which about 10 meters from one and other. it had nice interior (much better than those indian hotel in colombo which was pretty woeful place … don’t ever stay in a place that is managed by indian … it was truly terrible experience). when i just finished bath and checking my email in my room (very nice to have free internet access from your own room), i had hear some noise just outside my window. lift up my curtain, there are these little wild pigs digging around the bush just outside my window … they are very cute. then i heard there are noise on my roof … i was puzzled … it have to be very large bird to make such noise. i was kept in wondering for about 30 minutes, until from the gap of front door curtain i saw this monkey that was sitting on the wooden handrails and checkout the bush in front of my pergola. this was what i saw on the first day arrived. then when i went for the safari in the yala parks … i wasn’t too surprised to those animal i saw in the park. to me this is a wonderful experience that stay at a nice hotel and yet so close to these animal … which is kind of cute.

Best hotel choice for Yala trip”

The location is very close to National Safari Park. You will have chance to meet wild animals inside the hotel and no safety concerns. We met an wild elephant there and it is a really amazing experience. Although it is located in a wild environment, the room is pretty clean and without any bugs. There are also swimming pool and spa services. Don't miss Cinnamon Wild Yala Hotel when you visit Yala!

almost perfect, but bad reception management”

the proximity to the park and beautiful surroundings, the luxury rooms, the quality of the safari's all together made this an unforgettable stay!

We stayed in Cinnamon Wild Yala for two nights and absolutely loved our stay (with one exception, but we'll come back to that later). This is the closest you can get to Yala National Park, especially since the government no longer allows (permanent) camping in the park itself. The resort is luxurious, and even more so if you consider it's location and the great price (that we got via agoda). The rooms/cabins are spacious, nice and very comfortable. Diner buffet is stupendously overpriced, so just order a cheaper dish in the bar downstairs. Overall the staff is very kind. We decided to book two safaris via the hotel (80 dollars for a private safari), even though this is twice as expensive compared to arranging it in Tissa (the largest nearby town). We were happy we did so because the additional nature guide was extremely knowledgable and really made our safari unforgettable. However, we would have liked the option to share our jeep with others. That would make the safari cheaper (probably without hindering the experience because the jeep was luxurious), and the park less crowded. There are so many jeeps, it's almost funny, sometimes it is like a city zoo. There was only one spot on our otherwise lovely stay here: the staff of the reception is awful. We booked the hotel via agoda and when we checked in we signed for a bed and breakfast stay. The first morning at breakfast someone asked for our room number and confirmed that our breakfast was included. However, after breakfast on the second morning they asked us to sign to pay (a ridiculous 25 US dollars per person). That was unexpected and not what we signed up for, but apparently we booked a "room only" without breakfast on agoda (we didn't know and there was no other option on agoda, we checked later). If we would have known we would not have had breakfast there. Nonetheless they made us pay for both days. And not in a kind way. We asked for a discount, but then the guy who made t

location, wild life, huts

We had a fantastic stay at the Cinnamon Wild Yala Hotel. We were traveling with our 8 months old baby, the staff was very attentive, we got a baby cot which is rare in Sri Lanka - and they would have made special food for her. We were chased by an elephant on the hotel premises - which we loved! It would not have even been necessary to go on a safari trip after all, as we almost saw everything (except for the leopards) in and around the hotel!

But not in month of September, as Yala Block One Safari Park is closed.”

We booked for 2 nights in September but Block One Yala Safari Park was closed. So on good, reliable recommendations, we went to the UdaWalawe Natonal park, where we saw many elephants. We were thrilled. But that meant we had a day wondering around the Cinnamon Wild Yala Hotel and not much to do. I would have been happy if the main Park had been open to us. Bit disappointing, as the only reason was to visit the Number One Block.

Cinnamon wild yala was a fantastic experience. Staff were execellant throughout, the rooms were amazing and location and overall facilities were top notch. To the fussy people, you are in the middle of nowhere so to complain about food prices is ridiculous, we are found the prices fair considering you would have to drive 30 mins to the next restaurant.

Lovely design, friendly and helpful staff and very high standard rooms

We actually stumbled upon this hotel on the search engine and were pleasantly surprised to find it exactly as shown in the pictures. The hotel is situated in the most amazing location, right on the edge of the Yala National Park with wild animals being occasional guests. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are amazingly clean, large toilets and fully equipped with the most up to date technology. Not that we made use of them ! The surrounding is the jungle, ocean and wilderness. The restaurant has a wide range of food to cater for a variety of guests and the bar is well stocked with a variety of alcoholic and soft drinks. The hotel also has a Yala safari counter. We checked in at 9 pm and we were booked and ready to go on the safari at 5.00 am. Couldn't have wished for anything more. All in all, it was well worth the price I paid for it and it is worth the travel.

nice stay before Yala safari”

Location, buffet dinner, hotel's pond/pool

We stayed one night before Yala Safari. This should be one of the hotels (if not the one) located closest to the Yala park entrance. Around the pond of the hotel, you can observe peacock, crocodile, crane, and different kinds of birds here. The buffet dinner was nice with a good variety of choices. The only drawback is the female operator's attitude, which was unacceptable and shame for a hotel brand like Cinnamon. Except this point, this hotel is an ideal choice for your stay in Yala. BTW, I regret not doing the night safari the hotel offered (chargeable).

A Great Experience!”

The staff were extremely friendly, the location is fantastic - just a few minutes drive from Yala National Park, the rooms are very comfortable

Our stay here was fantastic for a number of reasons -the staff are friendly and went out of their way to help, the hotel is right next to the park so it's a very short drive to get there and the rooms are very comfortable. There are animals roaming around the compound but we always felt very safe. It was very nice walking along the beach on the edge of the hotel compound. If I were to return to Yala, I would not hesitate to stay at the Cinnamon Wild hotel.

Visiting Yala National Park and staying at Chaaya Wild Yala was such an amazing experience for our family. The location of the hotel was perfect as it was just outside the official park, yet obviously the animals don't know exactly where the boundaries are so there are many animals to see from the hotel's observation deck and within the grounds. You are truly apart of nature! The accommodation was very well designed -- modern yet completely fitting in with the surrounding landscape. The service and food was top-notch. It was such a great place to be able to relax during the hot afternoons and return to in the evening. Plus, the cost ended up being a lot less expensive, yet I don't think we missed out on anything.

Location, Wildlife and Pool

Cinnamon Wild Yala is an excellent choice if you are interested in the wild-life of Sri Lanka, but wish to stay 5-star. The resort is located right near the entrance to Yala national park (there are none inside the park). Overlooking a waterwhole means you can see crocidiles and other animals without leaving the pool or bar. Food service at dinner was sometimes a little languid. Best to go for the buffet. Breakfast was excellent. TIP: Organised safaris from the hotel are overpriced - better to arrange your own independantly.

Fantastic hotel, highly recommended”

Rooms, food, secluded beach, staff, pool

we stayed at chaaya wild safari for 2 nights in march 2012 for part of our honeymoon. we had one of the jungle chalets which was a great size, spotlessly clean, with lovely decor and a very comfortable bed. the buffet here was one of the best hotel buffets we had in sri lanka with an excellent range of curries on offer. the safari office on site made it very easy to arrange a drive in to yala national park. it is probably a little more expensive than booking it outside the hotel but it was convenient and offers a more little peace of mind when getting up at 5.30am! also, as their breakfast runs until 10.30 you can easily get back in time for a feed. one of out other highlights was that, with a couple of steps through the trees at the back of the hotel grounds you come out to a beautiful secluded beach without another soul (even other hotel guests) on it. absolutely stunning. the wild boar passing through the grounds in the evening was a great sight. apparently they get the occasional elephant in there too.....making the staff who come and guide you from your chalet to the restaurant in the evening very welcome. a great place, great staff, lovely setting, fantastic rooms. one of the highlights of out honeymoon.

5 Star Rooms With Incredible Wildlife Just Outside Your Door

sri lankan hotels generally offer very poor value for money. however, chaaya wild yala is the best value hotel i have ever stayed in. it was the cheapest hotel we stayed in sri lanka and also the only hotel that had a reasonable concept of service and cleanliness. two hours after check-in, while watching espn, a wild elephant strolled past our window. monkeys, wild boar were all frequent visitors. the food in the restaurant was also the finest we had in sri lanka. fine bedding made for a good night sleep. one complaint would be that the dogs around the resort should be neutered. they disturbed the wild animals, hunted the lizards, and barked at night when the spotted deer and buffalo roamed through the resort grounds.

Our Favourite Hotel ”

We absolutely loved our stay at Cinnamon Wild. The Manager Shehan went above and beyond to help us with some difficulties we had with our Agoda booking. He was very attentive and willing to help. We cannot thank him enough. The whole stay was amazing, from the beautiful room, to the relaxing pool, and the wonderful service we got- on the one night we stayed we met a room boy who was on his bike around the villas. I asked him where the animals were and he guided me to monkeys, wild bore and then down to the beautiful beach. It was the most amazing sunset we had seen in Sri Lanka to date. We then ate at the extensive buffet- absolutely amazing food in a great location overlooking the pool with wonderful service. The morning of our Safari we were given a hearty breakfast package which was a special touch considering we were not going to be back in time for the buffet breakfast. We thought that was very sweet of the hotel to offer this to people on Safari. Overall I only have wonderful things to say about the hotel. The experience was wonderful. We would recommend our friends and family to stay here again (well, we would recommend them to stay at any Cinnamon hotel as we have not been disappointed with any of our stays at their hotels). Thank you again, we wish we could have stayed longer!

Fantastic Hotel”

Great room, good facilities

Chaaya Wild Yala is a very, very bumpy 18 km from the town of Tissamahara mostly through barren scrubland but well worth the journey. It is a totally isolated oasis with great facilities for a short stay. The pool is very nice, the staff are friendly and efficient and the buffet style meals have a wide selection of good quality food (Asian and International). The beach is not safe for swimming but is great for walking and watching the waves roll in. The main reason for visiting is the Yala National Park. Safaris can be quite expensive but we enjoyed ours even though we didn't spot the elusive leopard.

lovely hotel, challenging to get to. ”

The rooms are very well equipped and the wild animals around are ownderful.

yala is not a destination for the feeble or the gaed. it can be extremely demanding. the "safaris" - basically jeep tours of the park, around two areas only - can be hot, dusty, uncomfortable and very, very bumpy. you can only alight from your vehicle at one spot on the beach. and there is a severe problem with trafic. yes indeed. each morning and afternoon, dozens and dozens of jeeps and land rovers line up at th entry point to the park, and off everyone goes in a hot dust bowl - all the cars, and it really evokes rush hour, tend to scare off the most interesting attraction, the leopards - and you get irritated following dozens of other tourists all in a row, all stopping to try to get a fleeting, hot, dusty glimpse of the elephants, etc., etc. the park authorities should restrict the number of vehicles allowed in at one time - raise the prices of need be - or people will stop coming. the wild chaaya yala offers independent bungalows, and our was surrounded by monkeys in the am - charming if rambunctious - then familes of wild boar, and around the pond, wild crocodiles, with the occasional poisonous viper here and there. you are asked to have someone escort you if you go out after dark along hotel paths. the food is acceptable and the service of the staff is very good, despite their problems with their accents making them hard to understand. the resort has wifi everywhere, for free, which is nice. one other main problem is access. you are in a very remote area and it takes forever to get there - in the heat over very very bumpy roads.
