The location is right in the middle of the city, so it is extremely convenient to go anywhere from here. One of the negative thing I can think of is this place got no parking facility. So if u need parking, u have to look for public parking nearby. Take note it is free parking from 6pm to 9am in the city. And also, it may not be convenient for young family as the noise from nearby disco may be a bit loud at night, especially during weekend.
central location but very noisy in weekends”
central location but very noisy in weekends, if you can please avoid to stay at this hotel during weekend. Music played until 4am, even we had requested backside of the hotel. Backside is facing a construction site.
Location is good if you want to be near the bars, restaurants and shops. Location is bad if you want to be picked up and dropped off right at your hotel and if you want some peace and quiet when you sleep. Good enough if you need a good, affordable place to rest for one night.
Overpriced but good location”
I think they doubled their prices for New Years Eve, as it was double the price of any other hotel we stayed at in Iceland, but about the same quality. It was a nice hotel in a good location, but not worth anything like what we paid for.
Great Location, nice basic hotel”
The hotel is a nice, clean, basic hotel in a great location in downtown Reykjavik, close to everything. We had read the reviews about the noise from nearby bars on the weekends, so we reserved a Premium Double on a high floor in the back and could barely hear the noise on Saturday. The other nights we stayed during the week there was no noise. The staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet met our needs.
Location & Hospitality ”
The location are great. in the middle of the city and walking distance to the tour bus stops, visitor centre, and restaurants. The front desk was really helpful...she provided valuable information on the driving condition for the day and some useful tips. Natasha was the front desk receptionist....Kudos to her...
Pleasant stay and nice staff”
Location is very great which near a bunch of restaurants. The staff is really nice especially the guy staff at night shift that shares a lot about Iceland. If you want to go on local tours just ask the front desk staff to book it for you and just wait for pick up right in front of the hotel. Really convenient hotel. The room standard is pretty good. I truly recommend to book the hotel in advance to avoid high room rate. Very recommended overall.
Good location but noisy”
The hotel is well located, but across the street from an Irish Pub with music and hell raising until the wee hours of the morning. We were aware of this and asked for a room on the back, but still heard it. Don’t stay there on aFriday or Saturday
Location of the hotels are good but there will be super duber noisy if you stay at lower floors which we were given Room 203 and there are plenty of bars beside it.. and it might be on weekend Friday/Saturday so the noise only ended around 3am+ . furthermore there were walkers pass by the side corridor which just 1floor up on from our room so you can hear their walking, talking and screaming... I just wonder does all European hotels will arrange the room for Asian at lower floors.... Beside that, I think the room need to be renovated as well as the wood flooring are broken which we used floor mate to cover it to prevent from injure.. I believe that, if the necessary renovation can be performed then this hotel will be fantastic..
It was exactly as described for location - great - easy walk from bus stops. Downtown old quarter. This might sound strange but it had classic older pieces of furniture that I liked. Solid wood in good shape. A nice change from the cheaper furnishings that you usually see. SA from CA
right in the heart of city”
We just returned from a 6 day Iceland stop over on the way home from Scotland and Ireland. We rented a car and traveled the Golden Circle, and all along the southern coast out to the Glacier Lagoon. We wanted to see a much as we could in our short stay. Staying at the City Hotel put us within walking distance of all the sites we had listed to see in the city. Due to construction everywhere and streets blocked off for filming and tourist walking zones we struggled to find parking so once we parked we did not want to move the car. We walked to the old harbor, the opera house, the Cathedral and more in a day. City hotel was a perfect, reasonably priced location to stay. Loved every minute of our stay in Iceland.
On busy pedestrian street in city center near restaurants and bars”
Great location - close to bus stops for tours, shops, restaurants and the harbor. However, do NOT stay in a room facing the street - the Drunk Rabbit Pub is directly across the street and is very loud until after dawn. Closing the double pane windows works well unless it is a warm night. Very comfortable bed. Room is small but modern and clean. TV listed but had no working English speaking channels.
It is true this is a loud location but if you close your windows it’s fine. Shower drain clogged you will be taking a shower with your feet standing in stagnant water. And you will have to hurry up before the shower basin overflows into the bathroom (shower only room no tub)
Great room great staff great location terrible water”
They use geothermal hot water that was so smelly and slimy that it made us gag and we could not shower. BUT great staff very nice room great location. It is hard to believe that all hotels have this issue. If so, book this one but I would check out other hotels hot water source
Great staff, location”
Hotel is right on key tourist street. My room was on front of building and was very noisy at night. I had ear plugs so it was okay for me but I recommend asking for room on back side of building. You also need eye shades in summer because it is light 22 hours a day and window curtains did not black out completely. The staff was incredible, making efforts for little things that made a big difference, like a finding a scale so I was sure my luggage wasn't overweight, getting me ice, watching my bags on checkout day, pointing out free shuttles to museums, etc. I didn't have the breakfast buffet so no comment on that.
Can't beat the location”
This hotel is all about the location. Tons of restaurants/shops just within steps away. The hotel itself was ok. Meets my expectations in terms of cleanliness but in all honesty it was just a place to sleep. Given the location, it can also get quite loud in the evening as the town parties on so ear plugs could come in handy.
Good hotel in excellent location”
This is a decent clean 3 star hotel right in the heart of old Reykjavic. There is a good collection of restaurants and bars all within five minutes walking distance. The old harbour from where all the whaling and puffin watching trips leave is only 10 minutes walk. The rooms are a reasonable size as are the ensuite bathrooms. It can get a bit noisy from the bars nearby but the double glazing is quite effective at shutting out the sound so sleeping should not be an issue.
Perfect Location, Nice Room”
The only issue I had was that a new employee forgot to restock the towels and take away the previous customer’s soap. It was an honest mistake. But the rest of the room was clean and comfortable. The staff was outstanding; any question was addressed quickly and thoroughly with 100% politeness and helpfulness. The location was ideal. I would definitely stay here again.
central location but the tap water is full of sulfur smell”

So noisy we could not sleep”
We even left at 4am instead of 5am cause we were awake anyway. I spent the night not sleeping looking at the ceiling. I recommend the hotel to give ear plugs in each room. The room, staff and locatiob were good but if you cannot sleep in an hotel what is the point?! Very expensive for the amount of sleep we got I would have rather sleep in my car.
