City Center hotels & places to stay

If you have a rolling suitcase dont come here, maybe try Disneyland instead. If you are a backpacker you have to come here. This staff are amazingly friendly and accommodating, they even fed me lunch a cupple days! This is a place where you will meet people from all over the world and share lots of storys. There is free coffee and tea. They have a bonfire everynight around the hammocks and it's easy to forget you're in a city. There are lots of happy cats on the property they may push the door to rooms open to stay warm at night. If thats not your thing.. well again maybe try Orlando Florida for your holiday not a hostel in a third world country.. WOULD RECOMMEND

This is my first time staying in a dorm room in a hostel, and everything is surprisingly neat and clean, now i feel very encouraged to travel solo and stay in hostels instead of hotels, the cleanliness is the same, the sleep quality is the same, on top of that you get to meet people and the value is unbeatable, so why bother with a hotel room anymore? :D the owner is soooo nice we ended up drinking together until early morning, the beer we drank with his friends actually cost a lot more than what i paid for the night, but he didn't charge us at all. The location of the hostel is really great too, it's right by my favorite Indian restaurant, and right next to the bar street (but still super quiet) and a motorcycle rental shop, you'll find everything you need around that area. anyway, i highly recommend this place!

This is a great hostel for anyone. The place is very new and modern and very comfortable. I ended up extending for 5 days because it was really nice being here and exploring thee relaxed Chiang Rai. The staff are helpful and friendly and really great talking to. I met many travellers here and enjoyed the socialising. The locals close by are also friendly so I cannot reccomennd enough. Plus, the best shower I have had along my travels. Terrific experience here

I don’t usually take the time to leave reviews honestly but this is a special case. The hostel is a bit outside of the city center but it won’t be a problem if you have a scooter (you probably will need one anyway, you can rent one at the hostel). The lovely lady who is the owner of the hostel offered us a ride to the night market every night and even brought us to the station in our last day (at 4AM). The free breakfast was the best I’ve ever had in a hostel. Whenever I come back to Chiang Rai I’ll definitely stay there again.

The guest house is in convenient walking distance from Bus Terminal 1 (I arrived there with the local Bus from Chiang Khong, and there is also a good shuttle bus to the airport) and from the center with walking street... I enjoyed to sit on my terrace facing the garden. People there are really nice and helpful and I found it great they provided free drinking water to refill my bottle.

For a relatively new hostel it surprisingly overlooks a bit.. Pros: Free soap and towel and water when you checkin. Good aircon Comfy beds Quieter than other hostels in the area but still excellent location Cons: Your bar of soap they give you is cos there's no soap in the toilets (seems like an oversight) Room smells of fresh/musty concrete til the aircon is on. Light switches are in the strangest place. Mosquitos Battery operated bed-lamps, none of which had fresh batteries. Overall, it's a very cheap, fine, clean, comfy place to rest your head

Helpful and friendly staff, new, large (private double), clean rooms with fridge, water, kettle with coffee/tea, toiletries, English movie channel on TV (sometimes you just wanna stay in on a rainy day) & close enough to city center to walk around. Added bonuses: clean, shared kitchen with free hot/cold drinking water, washer/dryer (30b), shared seating area, inexpensive (really good) breakfast next door and they rent bikes/motorbikes for the same price as everywhere else! They also have dorm style rooms that looked pretty nice from afar. Highly recommend!

We stayed 2 night here. The location is great, center in the city. The Stuff also very helpful. Breakfast also okay and they provide free salad and dink. Even we rent a balcony room with our space but the hotel rule not allow us to bring any food or drinks to the room so I feel link we can’t use our space as we want. The hotel face to western so it was hot on afternoon and the air-condition is slow to cool the room down. Overall I think it was great for dome but not a private room.

The guesthouse is very well located in Chiang Rai, close to the night market and bus station and not far from city center. Everything in the city is in walking distance. You can rent a motorbike directly from the hostel to go to the less central sites (white temple, blue temple, black house, waterfall) which is very convenient (it s quite easy to drive in Chiang Rai). The room is big and clean, with air conditioner. The bathroom is shared, so might not be clean everytime depending on the other guests, but ok. Only inconvenient is that you can hear everything the other guests are doing, so bring your earplugs, otherwise it s perfect. The hosts are really kind and helpful with good advise and great service! Thank you for the 2 times laundry because of the storm. They also serve food wich we haven t tested (exept from the free breakfast, which was good) because there are so many food places nearby, but it sure smelled good. Thanks again for our stay in Chiang Rai, we really enjoyed!

All the reviews are true. Da da is an exceptional host who tries her best to make you feel welcome in her home. She offers many services for our stay she offered to give us a tour of Chiang Rai (1200thb/total), dinner (100thb/person), breakfast (70thb/person), bike rental (200thb/person) and laundry (25thb/kg). Like other reviews have said Da da does tend to push the services she offers; however, the services ended up being relatively cheap for Chiang Rai. As for the house, the rooms were good, the beds were fine for Thailand and the air conditioning worked. The location was a little far from the centre of the city but that wasn’t too much of a problem for us. There are a few places that are similar prices that have better amenities but I n the end you pay for Da da and her hospitality rather than the place itself.

Quiet location, 20 minutes walking from city center, or 5 minutes by bike. Very friendly woman at reception with perfect english knowledge. Rooms clear and large, aircon useless in this place, so take fan room. WiFi works normally, but in evening sometimes lags (when everyone at home watching videos) :) i recommend this place for short time (up to one week) for month better to rent condo.

Excellent place... we were very nicely surprised and completely satisfied. There are two separate yards surrounded with cottages (yes...there are cottages almost in the city center :). We stayed at the first block, cottage 104... The cottage was spotless - small table with sitting outside, TV, AC, bathroom with hot shower attached, towels & toiletries provided, small desk, a mirror, and there's even a small fridge. Free stable WiFi. Free tea & coffee at the reception. All that for 400 THB (our even just 340 if booked via agoda) (March 2017). We liked the location as well - downtown (night market, bus terminal) is walking distance. B2 hot pot&grill restaurant (ร้าน 2B หมูจุ่มบุฟเฟ่ต์) is about 5 minutes walk. There are some other food shops and even public laundry machines at the same street/round the corner. 100% recommendable.

The Thai couple that own and run Mech Mansion are so nice and accomodating, making you feel like you're at home. They are so nice to talk to and recommend great places to go see. They definitely try their best to make sure that nothing is missing. The rooms are nice and big, almost too big. All the rooms have a balcony or in our case a porch since we were on the first floor. Definitely recommend renting a motorbike (the owner calls the company for you and they deliver the motorbike and pick it up when you're done) since the guesthouse is about a 10-15 minute ride to the city center. The cheapest motorbike are 200 baht per day. The area is secluded and quiet. You definitely will not see any tourists around and get the feel of real Thailand, but there barely is any food around. You would have to ride into the city to get your meals. The one thing that was very annoying was the trail of ants in our bathroom that would never go away. I don't know if it's because we were on the first floor but every time we left and came back or when we would wake up in the morning they would be there taking up our bathroom. We tried hosing them down the drain and even getting some bug killer but it was to no avail. Requesting a room on the upper floors is probably best unless you don't mind sharing your bathroom with ants. We stuck it out for 5 days but some people may not be able to. They did not come into the room just stayed in the bathroom which we were very grateful for. Very weird but good. Besides that everything was great, wifi works very well in room and we loved being able to get a good nights sleep. Recommended to budget travelers.

In my 3 weeks of traveling in SEA this was my worst accomadations. The bed was so hard i felt like i was sleeping on a box spring. there were ants all over the room. The windows open to the center courtyard where everyone eats breakfast so it is very loud. No top sheet so your body is touching the top comforter. Breakfast is buffet style with a few options. staff tries to sell upgrades on room but is nice. they will recommend things to do. Location is central.

The place is wonderful if you are looking for something away from the city noise, but close enough to be engaged in the night life. Located on the edge of the country side it has a warm homey feel to it. The staff is helpful and there is a small restaurant a few meters away. I would definitely consider one of the best places in chiang rai. So far I have stayed in four hotels this is the best one.
