Not that great”
I stayed at this hotel a bit more than 10 years ago. Back then it was a cute, luxury boutique hotel so when I saw the listing at such a low price, I wondered if it would still be the same quality or not. I understand that the hotel may have changed hands and is no longer aiming to be a luxury boutique hotel that it once was, but i think as a hotel in general, it really was lacking some basics. Over the past decade or so, the facility has really run down and they did not do much to fix most of the problems. Most noticeably in my room, the bathroom floor, which was covered with creepy linoleum flooring from when it first was renovated, was coming off due to water damage. I wonder how much fungus and gross things grow in there. That was one major issue I had with my room and I can easily list out many other problems but not going to... Bottom Line: this place needs many repairs, even if it is not aiming to be a luxury boutique hotel. Let's get the basics right!
Lovely small hotel right in the heart of everything.”
The cookies every night were Devine!
Number one factor is the great location amongst other hotels and close to Times Square and Fifth Avenue. The staff were also friendly and are able to arrange or hail a taxi. The bathroom was quite nice. As a bonus, chocolate chip cookies upon arrival and every night of my stay! Only issue is that the electric sockets in the room are a bit old and loose sometimes.
City Club Hotel”
Our stay at the City Club Hotel was in two words amazing . I can not think how they could improve on it , it was flawless . I had read that the rooms were small but man are they well thought out , every amenity you could want and never once did we feel cramped .The bathroom was simply wonderful with the best shower I may have ever taken , didn't want to get out . We traveled with our two dogs and every member of the staff was an animal lover and were just so friendly to my dogs! There is a park two blocks away on 42nd st for the dogs to do their bussiness . The location of course is ideal to take in a show and everything from the best New York delis to fine dining options all around you . I know I will never stay at any other hotel in New York if I happen to return there .
I was given a free upgrade as I was staying for 6 nights. Always appreciated. The room was attractive, clean & spacious with a lovely bathroom & large shower. Good air con/heating, plenty of storage & extras.
Very good option for central location next to time Square but away from the noise”
Very good hotel for a short business stay. Better if you get a room with balcony. For business traveler, make sure to ask if the room has a desk.
Great location for theatre hopping! Staff friendly and helpful! ”
Next time I will ask for a room with window view of the sky. Couldn't tell the weather unless going down to the lobby and look outside.nthe front door. Need a proper chair inside the room for guests with weak backs like me. A bit too much alcoholic drinks in the room. Should provide drinking water and kettle to boil hot water. Air con and fridge are a bit too loud. Otherwise, all is well and lovely! Oh, nice linens and towels!
We stayed in the deluxe double room for 5 and it was definitely spacious compared to other hotels in that area. The room was clean and loved the nice C. O. Bigelow shower products included daily. Given the number of people per room, you may want to consider bringing bathroom freshener as it doesn't ventilate fast enough. Our room didn't come with a coffee maker and there wasn't any hotel coffee in the lobby/2nd floor sitting area (maybe would be a nice hotel suggestion ;)) so we sent the kid across the street to get morning coffee. Staff is super friendly and we enjoyed our daily cookies. Like other reviewers the location is great. Aside from travel to/from airport, we walked and took public transportation everywhere we needed to go. There was never a need to stay in the hotel since shopping, park, eating was just a few minutes walk away. Would definitely stay here again on our next trip to NYC!
The room and location were actually decent. But our experience was dampened by the way the payment was handled. I won't give specifics but we were mistakenly charged double which eventually maxed out our credit card days into our vacation. The situation was drawn out for days. Instead of devoting too much time to small talk, the staff should've been more thorough with solving our concerns.
Attentive staff, clean rooms, great location”
Everything you'd expect from a smaller quality New York hotel -- clean rooms, good service and a wonderful touch of color and style ... . You are not in a cookie-cutter shoe box. It is not lavish or enormous, but you are comfortable and feel like you are living in style. Good job.
Nice boutique hotel”
Nice stay in a very convenient area where you pass by time square within mins and grab a bite or drink nearby. Small room but has everything you may need. Nice bathroom with a lovely walk in shower. The bed may squeak and walls may be thinner than you may expect. Staff are very helpful.
What an awesome hotel”
It was a fantastic surprise. I booked it last minute, got a good deal and was just expecting an average stay. Instead I was greeted by fantastic staff, directed to a room beyond my expectations (not big, but very nice) and came back from dinner to warm, delicious(!) cookies in my room. A truly memorable stay that blew away my expectations.
Good location, decent room but....”
Rooms are never ready on time and with no reception or anything you are being sent to a small waiting area on the second floor. Didn’t get my room by 4pm and after paying for an upgrade to a bigger room that was ready. The $20 upgrade should have been waived! The room was actually decent in size and so was the bathroom and it was also clean although very dated. All things considered I think it was good value for money.
Eddie was excellent staff member”
Very good location! Helpful staff!
Friendly&helpful staffs who smile. Big room &spacious for 4 persons, quite clean but need renovation”
Good location and quite clean with big spacious room + bathroom but need renovation soon. Friendly and corteous staffs
Encountered bad customer service staff ie the black lady. Her way of handling guests is terrible!! John and Alicia are most professional. Breakfast link-up with DB was terrible. Limited choice of breakfast. Totally turned off when it was meant to be complimentary for changing my room type and making my family having to sleep in 2 rooms separately. No kettle for boiling hot water for making milk. No bed room slippers Lift broke down once during our stay No windows in the room Location okay but not as near to train station as we would like it to be Good to receive cookies after each Housekeeping session, love the professionalism of John whom we could see tried to make everyone stay an enjoyable one. I hope I got his name right.
Overall a good stay”
Location is prime, walking distance to major tourist attractions. I was in New York for a meeting and looking forward to come back to city club hotel.
Nobody does it better!”
City Club has all anyone needs without charging more for a bunch of unnecessary faciliities. Location is perfect. Staff is unfailingly kind and efficient and rooms are ample and well equipped.
