This turn-of-the-century, neoclassical styled building offers 85 guestrooms and is ideally close to the Vaci pedestrian street. The City Hotel Matyas is located in the heart of Budapest and is just 100 meters from the beautiful Danube riverbank. It is also within a very short walk from Vaci Street, where guests will find a wide array of exclusive shopping boutiques, restaurants, and bars. Many of the rooms offer panoramic views of either Castle Hill or Danube River and the Chain Bridge. The on-site restaurant serves Hungarian dishes and fine wines and plays live Gypsy music. The 3-star City Hotel Matyas is an ideal choice for its turn-of-the-century charm and its excellent central location.

Convenient location in Buapest”
The location is excellent, the building is a bit of a remodelled maze, but everything works the way it is supposed to. Staff was helpful. The restaurant is good; breakfast is a bit disappointing. Don't expect five stars and you'll be fine here.
It is an old hotel. The room is quite large and clean but unfortunately the water drainage in the shower room is very bad which make you not convient when get shower. I was at late check on that time and the staff was not so polite. The morning staff was quite polite but he is the only one, so he is very busy and many people waiting for him.
Great location, right to the Danube river, right to Chain (Landchid) Bridge and attractive places, 1min walk to the tram #2. If lucky, you can have room with great view to the river and the Buda Castle. The hotel has air-condition, clean and wide.
Great location, kind and hospitable staff”
I couldn’t see any negative thing in the hotel. But it may changes ppl to ppl. The best thing is location. It’s beetwen Bazaar and vaci utca street under the bridge of Elisabeth. So Close to everywhere. Enjoy it, I definety recommend it.
Good for a short stay ”
The location is very good and central, rooms are very basic. We stayed in October, the heater was on and it was very hot in the room. As we stayed there only one night it was OK for us. Hotel will do if you are not planning to spend much time in the room.
Our stay at Matyas hotel was very pleasant. The location is perfect, in the middle of Vaci utca, 3 block from metro station, 1 block from the historic tram 2. The building sure needs a renovation and there are some stairs to climb but the room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was rather good, i would want them to add some hot chocolate and croissants, cakes, biscuits but it had a lot of stuff. Staff very polite.
Great location ”
This was a great location , it was right in the heart of the city , a short walk from pubs and clubs but a quiet location , the room was nice and big , cleaners done a great job , the location was in the fancy area and food prices were a little high transport close by the subway was close , the rail line was close and easy to use , walking distance to most attracitons and transport got you to the rest
It was good.”
This hotel is near Bacci street which is famous tourist area. It took only 10 min from the train station by bus so it was really easy to access to the hotel from the station. It is easy to find. Hotel staffs are really kind and they keep the room clean everyday. The room was very big so I really liked it. However, there is no elevator in this hotel.
Great location, big room and good price”
Easy to find the hotel in downtown Buapest, near the river. Three levels of security cards and code to get to the room. Seess a very old building with newly renovated rooms. Room kind of business stard but very clean and bright. For price excellent but no coffee or tea bags ( even though there was a kettle) and only English TV channels were euronews and cnn. Still very satisfied.
Great value hotel right in the centre”
There are mixed reviews for this hotel but I thought it was great. Check in and check out were really easy. I stayed the last weekend of January and it was really cold in Budapest but the hotel room was really warm. I had a single room which was huge including Ensuite and a fridge. The location could not be better. I would recommend this place. Very good value.
great location ”
matyas is an old hotel and on entering the front door it's a bit off putting. it's shabby as is the reception area. the rooms are a good size though, they're clean and well appointed, the staff are really helpful. our heating wasn't working so we had the choice of another 2 rooms. hotel is just off the main pedestrian mall and very close to the river. cafes/restaurants are very handy and plentiful.
Review of hotel accommodation * location - no question ask good location, in the center of the city, shopping stores are very near. * facilities - building is too old; - elevator malfunctioned we had to up by stairs until it was fix. - no service area for the drop of -room facilities are just interconnected, you have to use stairs; * service Hotel personnel were not accommodating, arrogant & rude ( when the elevator malfunctioned, we called the attention of the manager who shouted at us “pressed the button!” Well, in fact the elevator was really defective; - not the usual hotel which have staff who would assist you in bringing in your luggage upon arrival & bringing it out upon departure( so disappointing for a 3 star hotel); - not willing to extend assistance; - hotel people made us feel it was not happy to stay in budapest. When you get to talk to them, Others: - no shampoo & other toiletries, no blower
Matrasses are very old, my back hurt after sleeping, but the receptionist was very kind to give me extra blankets so I could sleep on the floor. And our room 166 was a bit small for 2 persons. The rest was perfect.
Fascinating breakfast hall/old beer hall!”
We were amazed by the history and decor of the downstairs breakfast room! It is a shame that the rest of the hotel is not as well maintained. Paint was peeling off the walls, and a lot of the lights on the verandahs didn't work. The location was really good and central to most areas.
This was a very bad experience for us. Two of the entrance steps had hits missing. No lift and a total of 38 stairs to our first floor room. Breakfast was down more stairs in the basement in a cafe next door like a black hole. Our shower door fell on me in the shower. I reported it and they said they had fixed it. They couldn’t because the runners are broken and it needs a new rail. We had to lift the door back onto the runners to take a shower. I am 74 and have an arthritic hip so this was no joke. It was an appalling experience.
Now about that lift”
I booked this as the property listed a lift (elevator) as one of its features. I found there was a flight of stairs to access the hall, three steps down to the reception lobby. From there three steps down and ten up gained you access to the lift. Now easy if you are older with reasonably heavy bags. No assistance except from the helpful man on reception. But great location
The property is part of the most famous historical restaurant right in the centre of the shopping district in Budapest. The breakfast is served in the beautifully decorated historical dining rooms that few get a chance to see and the buffet is very good. The rooms are adequate but the shower and decor is in need of updating. Good property and district for photo taking.
Brilliant location about 200 metres to the Danube river and close to Elizabeth bridge My sister and I were doing a river cruise and we were lucky enough that our boat docked nearest the Elizabeth bridge so when we checked out of the hotel we walked to the pier to our boat
Location was amazing. We walked basically everywhere we wanted to see in Budapest. Accommodations were basic but clean and satisfactory. Only downside was our room was right by the main door so we could hear the door slam every 2 mins starting at like 7am.
Good location with value.
