Not fantastic but not the worst. ”
No lift and lots of stairs. Beds were so hard it was like sleeping on the floor and worse than camping with camp beds (hint, we booked in to attend the ANZAC Day service as a veteran family so we know what we are talking about).
As it is a 'heritage' building, it has no lift to the four floors. But it is well located (heart of the city), very clean, close to all amenities (restaurants, convenience stores, train station), with helpful staff/ personnel. Room may be small but with complete amenities and even a refrigerator. It is relatively quiet and you can get good sleep at night.
I love the location of this hotel. Just 5mins walk to Wynyard station and you can go to anywhere you want in Sydney. 1 station away to Quay. The staffs are also friendly. The room is not that spacious but we don't mind because its comfy and cozy. The only downside is there is no elevator if you have huge luggage you have to carry it upstairs and down when checking out. But still okay since this is one of the cheapest hotel you can get around the city. Would love to stay here again.
Very friendly staff. And perfect spot. Close to everything! Extended my stay 2 days extra! ”
All very very good. Staff so nice and friendly and helpful.
This place is a lodge but definitely does not feel like a hotel.”
The receptionists highlighted that this was a heritage building and hence the lack of lifts, but they didn’t mention the lacking hospitality and furnishing. Nothing heritage-significant found anywhere. The walls were dull with paint peeling. The family room was musty (upon entering initially and throughout our stay) which brought in mosquitoes that stung into the nights. We requested for the air conditioner to be fixed on our first night but the cool function broke down anyway on the next night. The kettle was missing from the room and despite multiple requests, the receptionist strangely did not want to deliver it while we were in. Cups were provided in the rooms but not teaspoons, which arguably could be dug out from the common pantries consisting grungy cutlery with food remnants still on them and the dishwashing liquid nowhere to be found. The towels replaced on the next day came slightly damp with a strange smell. You would find hostels more homely than this sad place. It’s one saving grace is its close proximity to Wynyard Station but surely you’ll find your money’s worth elsewhere.
Close to Pitt street mall”
Convenient location, no parking, no lifts. Good accom for over night stay
Location is in CBD area and easy for transportation. There is no lift and have to carry luggage on my own. Just beside Hunter connections where food court is situated. Shower room is tiny. No drinking water at all.
At the middle of the city”
The cheapest but the most strategic place to stay in the city. It's literally at the middle of everything. Though the bed is quite old... But overall, above average. P.s. pls extend your checkout time!
Convenient & low cost in a pricey part of town”
Our floor had a lounge & kitchen area which is a bonus compared to most hotels. We were in Room 304 which had a window to the street which was noisy with garbage trucks and loud pedestrians late at night but expected in Sydney CBD. Very comfy room & beds and only 5 minutes walk from Circular Quay. The hotel entrance is 2 doors from an entrance to Wynyard Station making arriving by airport train very convenient.
Good Budget Hotel in CBD”
I enjoyed my stay at the City Lodge. The staff were quiet but friendly, the room was fine for the price and the hotel is located in a good position in the middle of the city on Hunter Street. Only a short walk from the Opera House, Darling Harbour etc. Nice sushi restaurant downstairs and to the left on hunter st. 7/10 - would stay here again, good budget option
City Lodge Hotel”
I stayed in the only single room in this property and it was terrific. With adequate facility and safety for a single traveler, I could not ask for more. . Location is an A+ for me as whatever I have learnt in the Sydney travel book in city center area, they are all within walking distance. The staff is also friendly and helpful, I will strongly recommend any traveller who is willing to pay a little higher than the hostel for the central location and privacy.
I booked online for 3adults 1 infant which is more expensive than the 2 adults but when we arrive at the hotel they ask me to pay extra $30.00 for the single bed because they told me that extra bed is not included.(and its a old folded bed too)also they know we have a baby and they put us in the top floor and they dont have elavator.Location is good but never again to this hotel and if you have big baggage dont book on this hotel.
Get what you pay for”
Altho the staff were friendly and helpful and it was great location for what i needed. The 4 flights of stairs and the rock hard bed i had to sleep on was abit too much. Not even sure if it was a mattress...just felt like a hard bed base i was sleeping on. The family room was tiny and for these reasons, i wouldnt recommend it.
This hotel turned out as a nightmare and was very much disappointed for multiple reason like phone was not working and the bed mattress wer horrible. would not stay at this place nor recommend any one in my life time.
I missed the info on website that there were no lifts. It's one floor up to reception and another one or two to rooms. If you have luggage can be an issue because you need to carry it. Great price and top location and had all that's needed, in my room, in very limited space.
Perfect for its cost”
I am a budget solo traveller and this was fantastic. So close to everything, easy to find, lovely staff. There are very steep stairs to be aware of but that didnt bother me. The place has character and I enjoyed my stay
Happy to review this property after reading some of the negative comments online.. this place was very clean when I stayed, so was the bathroom, bedding, room and they even had a cleaner scrubbing the walls in the foyer when I arrived. Staff were also very nice. If you go in there knowing that the place has no elevator then you will have an enjoyable stay. I stayed on a Thursday night and heard no noises at night, might be different on a weekend however I’ll be back for sure. For a 3 Star Hotel I give this place Five stars (and I’m picky)
Just Ok to stay”
Display to make up room on 2nd day stay but was ignored n left room just the way it is.. reason that the staff nvr see them..overall its ok to stay but again noise n no lift.. cheers
I paid deposit . It’s AUD 100. They said After check out will return to me. But never return. Very bad Hotel.
First room at top of building after 5 flights of stairs smelt of damp. They did change us to a very small room at front. Very nosy. !
