City Lodge Hotel, Hunter Street, Sydney”

Location is wonderful, less than 5 mins from Wnyard Station, clean rooms, helpful staff
The only real con is the stairs as there is no lift, if you have mobility difficulties this hotel is out for you

My son and I had never visited Sydney before and wanted a base, the City Lodge Hotel was perfect for this as it is very close to Winyard Station (takes less than 5 minutes walking very slowly) and you just cross the road and walk down Pitt Street for the ferries at Circular Quay. The staff in the hotel are very helpful and the rooms are clean and well equiped, they are fairly small but for the price I paid I could not have been happier. The hotel has it's own laundry guests can use free of charge which was very useful. The only downside is the lack of lifts so all cases etc need to be carried upstairs but this is a very minor niggle unless someone has actual mobility issues. I will stay here again when I am next in Sydney and have already recommended it to friends and family.

Booking whoopsy”

Something went wrong with our booking where the hotel had a booking for a double room when we had booked a twin. Unfortunately because our flight got us into Sydney late and the hotel was already full, there were no other rooms available aside from the double they had reserved for us. I don't know whether it was Agoda or the hotel who stuffed up, but the printed booking confirmation I had with me said 'twin premium'. After thinking about it for a while the hotel eventually relented and made up a bed for me in the staff room. Booking issues aside, the double room was clean and had all the amenities you'd expect for a budget hotel. My bed was comfortable, the sheets were spotless, and the room was perfectly quiet despite the hotel being in the heart of the city. That said, it's a cheap and cheerful hotel right smack in the middle of the CBD, and I'd be happy to stay there again, so long as there are no more stuffups with my booking! :)

Located in the heart of Sydney CBD, clean”

Convenient Sydney CBD location, one of cheapest hotels available, kitchen facilities, fridge and ironing board.

The hotel is conveniently located in Sydney CBD, within walking distance of Wynyard train station which is part of the Airport Link network. This means you can travel directly from the Airport train to Wynyard train station to reach the hotel. Wynyard train station also had some fast food options, such as Maccas and Hungry Jacks, as well as Asian noodles. My room was clean, with windows, equipped with a mini fridge, sliding door wardrobe with clotheshangers, a single seater sofa, square shaped wooden writing table, hair dryer, tolietries. There was also a communal kitchen with stovetop cooking, microwave oven, fridge, sink and also an ironing board with iron provided. Staff was pleasant and polite. However, the hotel has no lift and need to lug your heavy luggage up the stairs. 24 hours City Convenience store located next t hotel, but prices were a little too high for me. Overall, value for money and one of the cheapest hotels in Sydney CBD area. Would definitely stay here again. Free wifi was also provided.

Great location”

Handy location and comfortable rooms

The City Lodge Hotel is in the heart of the Sydney CBD, and is only a few minutes walk from the Wynyard train station. A 10 minute walk will get you down to the Ferry terminal where The Rocks and Opera House are near by. There are plenty of eating places close also. This hotel is not flash, but for a short stay in Sydney, it's fine. There are no elevators, so you'll be walking up plenty of stairs - which isn't so handy when you are arriving and leaving, and have baggage. I wouldn't suggest it for older people for this reason. There is a kitchen for everyone to use, but I don't think anyone uses it. The staff are friendly and helpful. Finally, the rooms are smallish, but big enough. My room was clean and comfortable. TV only provided 4 channels which were mainly sport. Overall, a good place to stay if you just need the basics.

Convenient & low cost in a pricey part of town”

Our floor had a lounge & kitchen area which is a bonus compared to most hotels. We were in Room 304 which had a window to the street which was noisy with garbage trucks and loud pedestrians late at night but expected in Sydney CBD. Very comfy room & beds and only 5 minutes walk from Circular Quay. The hotel entrance is 2 doors from an entrance to Wynyard Station making arriving by airport train very convenient.

Great location!”

I love the location of this hotel. Just 5mins walk to Wynyard station and you can go to anywhere you want in Sydney. 1 station away to Quay. The staffs are also friendly. The room is not that spacious but we don't mind because its comfy and cozy. The only downside is there is no elevator if you have huge luggage you have to carry it upstairs and down when checking out. But still okay since this is one of the cheapest hotel you can get around the city. Would love to stay here again.

Good price for top Sydney location. ”

Location. Clean and comfortable. Nothing flash but worth the money.

We chose this hotel simply because it was within walking distance of the Opera House and The Sydney Theatre both of which we had to go to. Pd $139 for a queen room, own shower etc. Sign above toilet read not to put toilet paper down it as it would cause a blockage (use bin provided) and the TV didn't really work but would stay there again due to price, location and cleanliness. Receptionist was efficient, check in and out without any hassles. We really only needed a bed and a shower. Would recommend.

City Lodge Sydney”

Location is very central
Have to lump luggage up a steep set of stairs to 1st florr reception

The City Lodge is a very small boutique hotel that is very well located close to CBD, Circular Quay, trains and other transport. The hotel rooms are nicely fitted out but reasonably small, however they are fine for 1 to 2 guests staying for short periods. The bathrooms are nice but extremely small. There is a good selction of pubs and other eateries close by and a very short walk to the CBD or down to circular quay for a feed or to catch transport. The Wynard station is accessible via a shopping arcade next door to the hotel.

Great value for money”

This hotel is so well located and at the moment is benefiting from the light rail construction as the street is closed off at one end making it very quiet with little traffic. This is a budget hotel and it is important to keep that in mind. If you want the luxurious foyer and high end fittings, go somewhere else! Our room was spotless ( yes, there was a crack in the basin) and the bed was very comfortable. We had everything we needed for an overnight visit. There is no lift so bear that in mind but having stayed in hotels all over Europe this is not unusual for city hotels., most costing a lot more. The staff were very efficient and helpful, especially Cara. There is a convenience store and a noodle bar (open during the day) next door and The Grand Hotel across the road for food and drinks. The City Lodge Hotel was perfect for our needs.

No lift in the property, not 24 hours service.

I stayed in the only single room in this property and it was terrific. With adequate facility and safety for a single traveler, I could not ask for more. . Location is an A+ for me as whatever I have learnt in the Sydney travel book in city center area, they are all within walking distance. The staff is also friendly and helpful, I will strongly recommend any traveller who is willing to pay a little higher than the hostel for the central location and privacy.

Central location hotel at budget price”

Hotel is located in the very centre of the city

Hotel is located in the very centre of the city, at this price you won't find a better deal. Train station is 2 min away, main attractions are all walking distance away including Botanic Garden, Circular Quay, Opera House. Restaurants, food courts and shopping places are readily available. Little cons - no elevator in the hotel, and since the building is an old heritage structure - stairs are steep. Otherwise, the hotel is number one in price/quality ratio.

Perfect location in Sydney ”

Location is ideal - just a 5 min walk to Opera House, Circular Quay, Botanic Gardens, The Rocks etc. Air con room, fridge, kettle, good bathroom, free wifi in room, tv, comfy bed, use of full kitchen & lounge area

City Lodge is in a brilliant location. It is amongst the CBD area so there aren't many accommodation places (at reasonable prices) to choose from. It 'ticked all the boxes' of what I wanted which is why I have visited 3 times now (& will book it again when I next visit Sydney). A few little 'niggles': check in was a 'hassle' because I didn't arrive until 10.30 pm & the front door had been locked Entrance area is now looking a bit scruffy Stairs to rooms are really hard work with heavy luggage (no lift) Air con to room is controlled centrally (but they can adjust it if you go & ask) Room was quite small (but not a problem for me)

Great location, but small rooms.”

Friendly staff.

With one sentence, I would not recommend it. The room is too small and basic to use it to relax. To get to the window, you have to walk sideways past the beds and TV stand. The elbow room in the shower and around the toilet is very confined. Gotta watch your moves. I didn't have power adapter to take with me, hoping that maybe the hotel has some. They did, but only two, and they were in use, I could not get a turn. Thought of buying one and then donating it to the hotel, but at $12 it is not a big investment that the hotel cannot afford. For me it would have worked at $4 a charge, which is more than I payed for the batteries on line. My wife was reluctant to take a shower because of a warning that the fine for triggering the fire alarm is $750. Apparently the alarm can be triggered by the steam from the shower. I showered very, very carefully, turning the water off when not needed, same as I do when taking a shower in my motor home, but there I don't face a $750 price tag. There are 28 steps to climb and no elevator. Something to consider if you have bad knees. On the other hand it was clean, except the TV remote. Location is excellent. Very friendly staff, they had maps of the area and helpful advise. They let me use a 5V charger with USB output to charge my iPad (cannot be used to charge the camera battery though). The gadget was not hotel property, but belonged to a staff member. Fridge and safety box in the room are good. If more details were available at booking time, we may have reconsidered. In North America you get a bit more comfort when you pay USD 639.80 for 4 nights. We found out Sydney is an expensive place, so maybe the price is not out of line. Your hotel rating of 7 is probably right too. Hope you find this helpful and have a good day. Regards Bob Tomev Toronto, Canada

good location, good rooms, nice service, good price. just a few minutes from Chinatown, World square and major sights like opera house. Staff are quite helpful. They provide you with the city maps and travel tips. Free shuttle bus is within a walking distance from the hotel, where you can have a quick view for the city. Will stay in this hotel again in the near future.
