Acceptable”
Beds were too short and too small. Mosquitos. Room had a fan, no aircon. Room only had 3 complete walls, the 4th wall didn't go to the ceiling so there was a lot of noise from everyone passing by and lights stayed on all night. Four single beds in one room? Toilets and showers set aside for foreigners, no hot water.

Horrible experience”
For the price paid, the quality of the hotel/room was disappointing. We did not stay for the night as we were heading to Dambulla. Hotel location was not easy to locate as it is located at some back alley among tea/spice trade shops. Room was very basic with fan and bed with mosquito net. Every occupant was given a thin piece of towel and small piece of soap. For a room of 3, only one power socket was provided in the room. The hallway in the hotel has poor lighting. Room was not separated fully and there is a big gap at the top of the partition, thus privacy is definitely out of question. Due to lack of windows, the atmosphere of the room/hotel can be very stuffy especially during the heat. The main thing that I would like to highlight is the roof leakage in the room. It was raining in the evening and while taking a short nap, there was water dripping from the top of the ceiling onto the mattress and the floor. Besides that, WIFI connection is non existent and password given was incorrect and differs on the both occasion we asked. Staffs was not friendly enough and in general, it has been quite an unpleasant short stay. For the same price paid, we could get way better quality room in another country such as Bali or Bangkok or even Malaysia.

City Motel review”
The motel's location far from bus / railway station. We arrived by train at night and took uber for 200 Rupees to motel. wifi is great but sometimes not working. The room , shower and toilet is clean. If you want to eat there some food corner nearby from the motel.

Terrible place ”
Only one sheet on the bed no top cover. Bad smell everywhere. The room walls did not go up to the ceiling and you could hear the noise from everywhere. Lots of shady looking characters around. Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

I wouldn't recommend staying here”
I have been traveling Asia for the last 5 months and did not have high expectations when booking budget accomodation. I just wanted somewhere in the city to sleep. In saying that, I was disappointed by this hotel. The room was fine but the walls don't go all the way up so you can hear everything. There were doors slamming late at night and both mornings of our stay it sounded like they were sweeping and cleaning loudly at 5am. All we wanted was a good nights sleep before traveling on but we didn't get that. The staff were really friendly but the area isn't the nicest. I'm a female with blonde hair and I wouldn't have felt safe if my boyfriend wasn't there with me.

Great for a quick and cheap stay for backpackers”
cost, helpfulness, last minute availability
Our first night in Colombo, we scrambled around looking for a place, because we had missed our train and needed to spend an unexpected night in Colombo after all. Our first cab took us to the City Hotel instead, which is much more expensive and way out of our budget. Finally, we found a tuk tuk driver who took us from the City Hotel to the City Motel for 50 rupees, and luckily they had an availability. For a walk in, we paid 3,000 rupees total for two people, with our own bathroom and our own room. When we booked online for one night a week later, we paid a little more than half the price, but with no room. The people working there were very helpful and friendly, and accommodated us quite nicely with all our last minute needs. You get what you pay for--it's definitely grungy and lived in, but if you want a premium place, then go to the City Hotel instead and pay premium prices!

Nothing really good about this hotel, maybe the location close to the bus staion...
We stayed in City Motel only for one night but that was more than enough. The price of the rooms is not high but i dont think it should be dirty because its cheap. we had room without window and the bathroom was disgusting!

Perfect for a cheap place to stay”
staff, location, late/early check in/out
Great for what we needed - a cheap bed! We checked in very late and got up very early for a train to the north, so we didn't see anyone except the staff, who were very friendly and accommodating!
