Near Sule Pagoda and the government offices, City Star Hotel is a good choice for visiting most of what Yangon has in its downtown district. Within a short walk is the lovely Sule Pagoda which is best visited in the morning since it tends to heat up in the afternoon as the bright sunlight reflects off all the shiny brass and gold. The spectacular Bogyoke Market is a great place to visit, and there are several lovely coffee shops nearby for a relaxing iced coffee. The hotel has a few restaurants that serve Suki, Chinese, and European fare and do so with style. Similarly the rooms are all decorated with traditional teak wood, although somewhat simply decorated. There is a business center and it offers Internet access, but this can be kind of tricky in Yangon and Myanmar in general.

Good Value for Money”
We stayed in City Star during the Thingyan Water Festival in Yangon and it was an unforgettable experience! What we like about the hotel is its very strategic location in downtown with many tourist spots in walking distance. The staff are very friendly and accommodating especially Mr. James who helped us in many ways during our stay in Yangon. The food taste very good and inexpensive for a hotel restaurant although there are limited choices in their buffet. The room that we had was spacious, clean and with very strong water supply. I will choose this hotel again should I visit Yangon in the future and I will highly recommend it to my friends and acquaintances who will visit Yangon as well.
Very good location, helpful staff”
I was on a budget during this trip so I was looking for a budget friendly hotel. City Star is not the cheapest but I read that its on a good location so I booked it. I was surprised that its very near where the bus (from Bagan I took the JJ Express Bus) dropped passengers off Downtown Yangon. I arrived at 8amand they gave me a room already (check in was supposed to be at 2pm). When i went to my room, it was big. It had the bathroom essentials, hot shower (no bath tub). The aircon is not so cold (which i liked) and the tv channels are few but i didnt mind because im out most of the time. The next day, im surprised theres buffet breakfast (i thought it would only be a set breakfast). Loved the staff too especially the guards who were always willing to help me find ways to go to where i want (they will encourage me to walk if its just near). :)
Great service”
I book Deluxe Family room with 75% discount (lucky me), and it's greatly fit for group of 4 people. Rooms are convenience and have a great view from balcony. Breakfast are great either, especially for kinda food picky like us. Staff are very friendly, helpful and very nice and kind. They support us with our bus ticket problem with great care. I was really appreciate for the whole staff that helped us for all the days we stayed and went back and forth many times. The location is great, too: very near Sule pagoda and Yangon City Hall. I was very lucky to have chance to stay in City Star Hotel. Thank you again for helping us - group 4 Vietnamese girls with many trivial requirements.
Great stay overall”
Had a great stay at City Star. Staff very accommodating especially the lady receptionist; speaks good English, too. Room was large and comfortable. Good wifi speed. Near Sule Pagoda, City Hall, Bugyoke Market, etc. Toiletries provided. Buffet breakfast has a lot of options. Small glitch is that the toilet seat in our room is slightly misaligned with the toilet bowl. Availed a Yangon tour with them. Taxi driver Tun Win Thein very nice and accommodating. Will definitely stay here if in Yangon again.
Fine hotel with very central location”
The hotel is recently renovated (I visited Jan 2016) and it seems a good choice. New clean well functioning bathrooms, only the shower should be shielded to avoid everything to be wet when you take a shower, hot water in the sink would be nice. Electricity working well and has an adequate number of plugs. Location in downtown Yangon is perfect when visiting the city and the city is your target.
Nice rooms in the center of the city”
My room was quiet and seemed to be well cared for. The Reception guy was pleasant and helpful. The price was right--now adjusted downward (via discounts) to reflect excess room inventory for mid-priced hotels in downtown Yangon.
Very Good Location in the center of Yangon”
If you wanna take a walk in the City of Yangon, You'd better use this Hotel. Because It's located in the heart city of Yangon. Public transportation is very convinient. Airport Limousine Bus, Downtown Circule Bus Line etc. I wanna thank all Hotel Staffs. From ihLee Feb 03, 2019 =========================
Very good”
This is a GOOD 3 Stars hotel in YANGON. The location is very good as it is in the DOWNTOWN of city and near the SULE PAGODA. Lots of restaurants around the hotel. Many shops around the hotel and there is a lane selling local food and fruits, from morning till night, near the hotel. Many taxis around and moving around is very easy; unlike some Hotels which located far away and visitors have big PROBLEMS in moving around; apart from the COST!!! GOOD VALUE for MONEY !!!
Family Suite”
Pros - very near to mini mart, restaurants, spa and nail salon, coffee shops (Parisian & J Donuts), Sule Pagoda, City Hall and Park. - 12 mins walk to the mall - family suite is very spacious - toiletries are provided - buffet breakfast is good for the amount that we paid - staff are accommodating - we checked-in an hour earlier for free - centrally located, easy to visit tourist spots in yangon for only 2,000-5,000 kyat per ride. Cons - be more meticulous in cleaning, some things were dusty - corridor's carpet was a bit smelly
Great Hotel, great location and comfortable room”
I had 3 days business trips in Yangon and I am very comfortable when I stay in this Hotel. I stay in 8 floor, very nice view, a lot of sunshine in the morning. Clean bathroom, Cable TV, strong air condition and delicious food Strongly recommend you stay in here because it is in City centre and have nice price You also should stay in high floor
A good basic hotel”
City Star is not fancy but is a decent hotel with good breakfast buffet and comfortable rooms. Unlike many other hotels, when you leave the room the power stays on so you can leave batteries on a recharger. Location is a block from the Sule pagoda, a must see in Yangon. I would stay there again.
Great location in Yangon”
We enjoyed our time at the City Star. The location is fantastic, right in the centre of downtown near Sule Pagoda, which is very handy. The room was spacious and clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. We are staying here again when we return to Yangon.
Nice clean place with a good location”
The rooms were nice and clean. The staff were super helpful. The air conditioner and fridge were the best in our Myanmar trip. The staff had already turned it on to welcome us when we entered the room. It was very nice coming back to the room after a trip in Yangon. Location was great to go anywhere such as the pagoda and China town. It was a good walk. Breakfast was mediocre but same as any other hotels we've been to in Myanmar. I would stay here again!
Great Hotel with friendly staff”
Nice and quite place. Many varities for the breakfast. Very close to Yangon main station( 7 Minutes walk). Very close by Sule pagoda(3 minutes walk). Friendly English speaking staff. I had to catch a train from Yangon to Kyaiktiyo Golden rock at 6.30am. This was communicated with the staff and they made us some wonderful sandwiches in a box since we could not wait for the standard breakfast.
Great location”
Located in the heart of Yangon with plenty of excellent food options nearby. Breakfast wasn't amazing but it had a good selection of food. Wifi was weak in the room but no problem in lobby. Staff booked a VIP overnight bus for us with no issues. They were helpful and friendly. Agoda advertises some of the rooms as having more beds then they do so just be careful as an extra bed is almost the same cost as a second room.
Value for money, convenient location”
We stayed in the Family Room (Room 405) and the size of the room was comfortable for the 4 of us. There was 1 double bed in the bedroom, 2 twin beds outside, 1 bathroom, and a tiny balcony facing the City Hall. The room was a bit old and musky due to the carpeted floor and humid weather but everything was clean and the muskiness went away once the air-conditioning was turned on. Towels, toiletries and water were well-stocked every day. Plenty of electrical outlets in the room for everyone to charge their gadgets. The location of the hotel was superb, it's near the Sule Pagoda so it was an easy landmark for taxi drivers (I recommend using Grab or Uber to avoid getting cheated by taxi drivers). Plenty of eateries (both local delicacies and cafes) nearby. Relatively near to the Bogyoke Market and Central Train Station (if you plan to go for the circular train). For Muslims, if you walk along Sule Pagoda Road and take the road between Sule Plaza and Sule Shangri-La, there are a few Halal restaurants as well. Breakfast was good. Staff were very polite and friendly. All in all, for the price that we paid, I'd say we got a really good deal.
good value”
good location for us as it's close to immigration which is why we went to Yangon. This is our second visit to this hotel and it was good both times. Breakfast is pretty good. The only negative I can think of is the layout in the bathroom. The shower is directly opposite the w.c. with no curtain or door so every time you shower almost the whole bathroom is wet. Staff were very helpful and efficient. john doherty
Good location good hotel”
This hotel is located at the centre of the Yangon city. Very convenient for transport and food etc. Good spread of buffet breakfast, good and polite staff.
Great location, budget hotel.”
Great location behind City Hall in downtown Yangon. Walls are very thin in this hotel and you can hear the guests activities in the adjacent room!!! Good aircon. Basic breakfast. You are allowed to take visitors to your room without any problem. Some staff do not speak much English so find one that can if you need help. Taxi to/ from airport no more than 10,000.Any more is a rip off and the taxi drivers will try. Room service/ cleaning is average.
Very good Location”
Right in the heart of Downtown near the Sule Pagoda, Trainstation and many Sightseing points of Yangon. Very friendly Staff and helpful. The Breakfast has many Choice of hot and cold food.
