Because Arlington is technically a part of the D.C. area, sites like the Pentagon, which is the largest office building in the world, and many of the memorials are easy to reach. As memorials go, of course the most famous on in Arlington is Arlington National Cemetery. The cemetery is the national military burial ground, where the nation’s most celebrated historical figures and service members are located, including the tomb of John F. Kennedy and the somber grounds known as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It’s truly a sobering experience, and worth seeing by anyone visiting the capitol.

A beautiful natural walk and a view of the Georgetown waterfront can be enjoyed at Roosevelt Island, which is best accessed through Arlington. The island is also a memorial to President Theodore Roosevelt and is a testament to Roosevelt’s dedication to preserving the natural beauty of America.
