Baler

This small town in the province of Aurora has been a surfer’s paradise ever since it claimed its place as the birthplace of surfing in the country. Baler is a small and picturesque city, offering visitors everything from waterfalls to beaches, not to mention museums and public parks to rival any other famous vacation destination. The best way to reach Baler is by bus, as renting a car may be more hassle than it’s worth once one arrives at the destination. Ever since the movie Apocalypse Now was filmed at a place near Sabang Beach known as Charlie’s Point, surfers have been flocking to Baler to experience some of its legendary waves. However, it’s important to note that Sabang is not the only beach in Baler, and it’s probably much more crowded than some of the other, more neglected beaches. For the traveler looking to experience a pristine coastline with a relatively lower risk of being crowded, head to the smaller Cemento Beach, which has the other benefit of being relatively near Ermita Park. A complete day can be a hike up the trail to the top of Ermita Park, followed by a surf on the beach or just sunbathing and watching the waves. Either way, Baler has exactly the right ingredients for a great beachfront vacation.

There’s much more to see and do in Baler, and the interactive map on this page is a great way to explore where the attractions and hotels can be found in this beautiful city.
