Bayeux is a delightful French town. The cathedral is beautiful and is part of the community; it is not set apart as are many of the gothic cathedrals of Europe.
The Bayeux tapestry museum is one of the very best we have ever visited. The layout of the museum enables a complete understanding of the tapestry. By the time one actually views the tapestry, one has an understanding of its historical significance as well as knowing what to 'look for' in the tapestry itself. It is an absolute highlight of any visit to Bayeux. The unexpected treat was the Saturday market filled with dozens of vendors selling everything from the usual fruit, vegetables and flowers to chickens and ducks, clothing, suitcases (for all the extras a traveler picks up along the journey), chairs and a tantalizing assortment of foods. Plan to be in Bayeux on a Saturday.
