"Although this hotel is very well know in Bejing as being the first joint venture in the hotel business in China, I have only discovered it during this trip. In the past I have stayed in many fine hotels in Beijing, but Jianguo was a truly pleasant surprise. The rooms are modern and spacious, service is friendly and efficient, the gardens in the middle of buzzling Beijing gives a relaxing feeling. Location is very convenient, at only a few meters away of the metro station and Silk Market. From here you can easily reach the business districts and most tourist spots. "

"I love this hotel. I have stayed here twice and would choose to stay here again if I was passing through Beijing again. The hotel is right in the middle of the Hutongs and in a perfect place for exploring the little alleys that make up this district. It's also very close to the metro for easy access to the rest of the city. The rooms are quirky and traditional. The atmosphere is relaxed and traditional. At night the courtyards are lit up with lanterns. The hotel is very quiet and peaceful. The staff are really helpful and friendly. The breakfast is a great big Chinese banquet. I would highly recommend staying here. As a hotel, it has a lot more charm than the big foreign chain hotels in Beijing."

"Our stay at the Tangla was very nice. The staff was professional during our entire stay. The room was very well appointed and extremely comfortable. We spent the majority of the day in bed because of the weather. The bathroom was stunning, much better than the one at the Shangri-La (which is 3 times as expensive). The bed wasn't the largest, but it was very comfortable. All in all, the room was decorated very nicely with everything seemingly new. The one thing that was a disappointment was that there was no DVD player. We wanted to go swimming, but the pool's water was being switched. While that was also a disappoint, it was good to know that they at least change their water. The fitness room had newer equipment. The spa was nice, but the prices are outrageous, as is the case with most nice hotels in Beijing. If you are looking for a massage, there was a nice one about 5 minutes away that was only 128RMB for a 2 hour foot and back oil massage. We also walked around looking at the restaurants... they all looked very nice, but at the time we didn't have the appetites to handle a large and expensive dinner. Instead, we ordered room service later on at around 10pm. The service time was fine. She had a linguine dish, while I ordered an omelette. Hers was very good, mine was just so-so. For the price, its what you would expect. It wasn't a complete rip-off, but you could definitely get a better meal outside for a lot cheaper. All in all, we had a very good experience at the hotel. While it would have been nice to go swimming, that was pretty much our only complaint. For the price, it is definitely one of the best values in Beijing. We stayed over at the Winterless Hotel before, and for the same price it does not compare to the Tangla. If we ever want to be in this neighborhood of Beijing again, we would definitely pick this place again. "

"This hotel was the best surprise of our trip in China. Loby is very large and luxurious. Rooms are very big and greatly designed. you can enjoy free wire internet in the room. The bed is so comfortable you can sleep on it for days, the bathroom is equipped with a big douch , and also a bath, the overall size of the bathroom is about the size of average room in standard hotels. you have a swiming pool, jacuzzi and sauna facility in the hotel for free, just do not forget your swiming hat. One of the most beautiful hotels in Beijing.."

"i am a frequent traveler to beijing. i always stay in the 5 star hotels in financial district. one of my friends is a producer for a british travel show called monumental adventures. she told me about the hutong experience of beijing. simply stated, i was overwhelmingly pleased. jerry and sam are these cool, hipster chinese hosts and speak perfect english, and were very hospitable and warm hearts. i will never go back to my 5 star hotel. incredibly charming room set in a ming dynasty courtyard, at the end of a hutong in old beijing. internet was free, and with 5 bars. tea pot with green tea in the room. very comfortable bed. literally hundreds of quaint old school chinese eateries within 5 min walk. this is the best way to see beijing. the very hip houhai area is 1 kilometer away. jerry and sam even arranged for a car to take me to the airport, and didn't even charge me. this is my new home in beijing. the best endorsement i can give is this: i can hardly wait to return with my wife."

"We just needed somewhere to rest during our 13 hour layover in the airport. I had an infant and 7 year old and just wanted a clean bed and clean bathroom to wash up. This hotel meets that criteria. I didn't have high expectations of this hotel, and so I wasn't disappointed. My flight arrived at 5:20am and I didn't really expect the free shuttle to pick me up so early, and I was right, I got the first shuttle in at 8:30am or so. The shuttle back though was super easy and fast. There was only one staff member who spoke English, and if you accept the fact that the customer service in China is not the same as USA, but that doesn't bother you, then you will be fine. The best thing I liked about the hotel was that the kids and I took a walk down the road and we came upon a street of little shops and a little park where the locals and kids hang out and a "supermarket" where we could buy cheap food and snacks."

"The hotel is not easy to find but the taxi driver managed to call the receptionist who was kind enough to walk us to the hotel from the main street outside the Hutong. The whole place looks like a nicely painted courtyard hotel - the red looks very inviting as you step into the courtyard it feels like a sanctuary amidst the hustle and bustle of the main street. The room is very pretty with a working bathroom so we could not ask for more with the low price that we paid. It is only 10 mins walk to the subway and is right in front of the beautiful Drum & Bell Towers. Beijing is generally polluted so we were glad to have somewhere peaceful and quite to stay. Everyday as you walk out of the hotel you will see narrow alleys of the Hutong, watch old folks with dogs, groups of Chinese enjoying a beer and people cooking on the streets etc. Definitely worth experiencing!"

"Stayed at this hotel at the end of August of 2011. It is right next to Grand Hotel. The 2 hotels are interconnected and taking up the whole block. Beijing Hotel is at the side of WangFuJin and Grand Hotel is at the side of TienAnMun. We have two 2 double bed rooms for 4 Asians. Each double bed is good enough for 2 average asian, if you want to save money. We spent 4 nights in Beijing in 2 different hotels so to experience which hotel is better and we are glad we did. We smelt the cigarette smoke thru the air-conditioning. Apparently, they have non-smoking floor and we were in smoking floor which we didn't know. We paid additional US$50 a night for each room for the Forbidden City view and I think it's NOT worth it. What we saw was the roof top of the Forbidden City. After coming back from a day trip, it's too dark to see it anyway. Be informed that Beijing Hotel has 2 buildings: the old and newer one. We stayed at the newer one. Do not know the difference between the old and newer one. And I saw they are building a new building behind. Free wired network at the room and free wi-fi in lobby only. The wall has electrical outlet that can accomodate different type of plugs. In the other word, there is no need to have adapter. At check-in, they ask for RMB $2,000 per room per night for deposit. It can be cash or credit card. Taxi to and from Beijing airport is about RMB $80 + $10 toll. The Concierge can help you to sign up for English-speaking tour. Be informed that they cost more much than Chinese-speaking tour. For your reference, Great Wall 1 day English-speaking tour is RMB $320 each. Half day WuTong (pedi-cab) English-tour is RMB $200 each. "I travel a lot, and I was leery after reading the reviews on here. The bed was slightly hard but that's china. Everyhing else was incredible! I was there 10 nights. Very clean, very safe (in room safe worked) convenient to sites, shopping and restaurants. The staff is amazing. Everyone speaks english and all go out of their way to help you! I cannot wait to go back. Great value. As good if not better than the sheraton across the street and the sheraton charnges 4 times more. I cannot say enough great things about this hotel. I loved it and I loved Beijing."

"The location is excellent, is only 5 minutes walk to the MRT, surrounded by many great eating places within minutes walk, such as famous Beijing Roast Duck, "Quanjude", Stream boat restaurant, "Hai Di Lao", "Dong Lai Shun" etc. and many other small shops. If you want to eat western food, there is a 24 hours Mcdonald outlet just opposite the hotel, and a Pizza outlet. Best of all, the Hotel café offers Buffet dinner at around Sin $40 per pax, but this price is applicable for hotel guest, if you walk in the price will be aound Sin $65 per pax, the spread is supper good, which includes fresh abalone, oyster, scallop, big prawn, individual hot pot will be provided, with various kind of soup base for you to choose, when you pick up the hotpot ingredients, chief cooking Teppanyaki food on the spot, supper yummy Beijing Roast Duck, also comes with a Indian food session, cooked food side includes chilly crabs too. Free flow of bottle fruits juice, beer, various kind of cakes and jelly, ice-cream choices are good too. Hot beverages includes coffee and tea, they provided all kinds of coffee, such as Espreso, cappuccino etc. It is really value for the money. Strongly recommend to try their Buffet."
