We visited family and were fortunate to have the history of Serbia explained to us. Facade and buildings were centuries old and bueatiful.
Country is poor and a lot more can be done to clean it up.
Overall, I was disappointed by Belgrade. I found the city to be unkempt, dirty and generally unattractive.
The buildings and architecture are generally bland and in need of major maintenance or replacement. The streets are filled with animal feces. In general, there were no attractions that left a lasting impression. The best part of my visit was experiencing the nightlife, which is vibrant. If you are after nightlife, then the city is worth visiting. If not, give it a miss.
Belgrade is one of the most charming European capitals with many beautiful parks. Downtown has been intercepted by gorgeous Danube and Sava rivers and famous Kalemegdan Park, the largest and the most importan historical monument of the cuty.
It is located in the city centre with it's old, well conserved fortification and museums, great view over the new and old part of the city and river banks full of greenery. Citizens of Belgrade are well known as a very friendly and polite, while restaurants and nightlife are nowadays world famous. Skadarlija, a vintage street is considered as the main bohemian quarter of Belgrade and is highly recommendable for those who wish to taste splandid local cuisine with folk live performances by small ensembles. Knez Mihajlova Street is the main pedestrian and shopping zone in Belgrade and one if the most valuable landmarks of the city. Regardless the weather, walking in this area is a daily must for local people and tourists as well. During the summer time is very popular to go to Ada Ciganlija, the "Sea of Belgrade", a picnic spot just a few kilometers from the cuty centre, offering beaches for sunbathing and swimming, golf courses, tennis courts, sailing and many other sport activities. Ada Ciganlija is one of the most beautiful city island in the world.
