Former host of the 1988 Winter Olympics and the gateway to the Rocky Mountains, Canada’s fifth largest city makes for a great getaway. This metropolitan destination is both a destination in its own right while also serving as a jumping off point for exploration. Calgary International Airport
serves the city with several international connections.
Sitting on the banks of the Bow River, Calgary offers a wide range of urban experiences. A number of parks, such as Prince’s Island Park, provide natural respite within the city, and some are the site of major festivals. Paying homage to its sporting legacy is the Canada Olympic Park which offers tours, an on-site museum, and a couple Halls of Fame. Heritage Park is an excellent stop for lovers of history with its living historical village. A vibrant theater scene can be found in Calgary, and throughout the year, a number of events and festivals are held with none being greater than the Calgary Stampede. Those with an itch for water sports can hit up Glenmore Reservoir, and Calaway Park caters to the thrill-seeker.
