Best hotels & accommodations in Cartagena

The NH royal urban is located in the heart of the old district in Cartagena, walking distance from everything. The rooftop pool is a true gem overlooking the city and is well kept. However the rooms are as sterile as could be with white walls and dark wood furniture and barely any art. My fiancé and I called it the #NHbratislava. It has so much more potential!

I don't usually leave reviews but I have to say that my stay at the Hotel Alfiz was probably one of my best hotel experiences, be it a boutique or chain hotel. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. They helped us with directions, bookings and even a police report we had to file for a stolen iPhone. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. They helped us with directions, bookings and even a police report we had to file for a stolen iPhone. The establishment was quiet, most likely due to the fact the property only had 8 rooms but it was impeccably maintained and located in the heart of Cartagena. I can't recommend this hotel enough and am so glad I found it. I will definitely be back!

From pool to ocean in a few walking steps. The room was clean, updated with a nice tile floor (not carpet that hides dust and nastiness) a large tv screen and crisp white linens on the bed. Managed and maintained well. Impressed despite the hotel being an older building--one wouldn't know from the inside.

One of the worst for me. I travel the world. The hotel has 2 buildings the new one and the old one. I was dumped by some nasty clerk in the old building. She gave ma hard time to register, She was as nasty as you ever will find some one. She said I missed my reservation. I had paid for 3 nights prepaid.I reserved the new hotel. She dumped me in the old hotel and gave me the worst room. Nasty room, dirty, old, broken tiles, mildew in the bathroom, one tiny balcony looking and some noisy people plying tennis??? the service was poor. The food non descriptible. I got the rotten deal. The only good thing is the hotel is close to the airport 5 minutes by taxi or bus. They took me to the airport for free!!!!

Great shopping in this area and lots of restaurants. If you go out the door of the hotel, turn right, walk two blocks, turn right again there is a beautiful court with lots of trees. The Pizza Restaurant on the corner with tables in the courtyard was our favourite restaurant. We ate there three nights in a row. Thank you for a great stay.

Fantastic little hotel about 15 min walk from the walled city. This really is an amazing hidden gem about 5-10 min walk from the walled city. Location was great, the 'grounds' of the hotel were lovely and the traditional feel of the rooms was a nice touch. Really loved it here and cannot wait to go back.

Perfect location at Cartagena walled city. Very good breakfast and friendly staff. Rooms are neat and comfortable. Sometimes one of us had to leave the room. kkkkkkkk Small swimming pool on the top of the building and sauna available. Also a small jacuzzi. They lend bikes for no charge so you can ride the city by bike. Hotel is surrounded by restaurants, travel agencies and shops. Many top restaurants were only 5 minutes far by foot. I recommend and definately would come back.

It was great. Staff was super helpful and polite. They went out of their way to make you feel welcome. The building itself is incredible. Beautiful courtyard with gardens and huge high ceiling rooms. All is a bit outdated but I think that added to the 'Old World' feel. One issue were the plug air refreshers. Either take them out or replace with aromatic natural oils.

We booked this hotel because it was a late trip and very few options were available. The room is nice and the staff is very professional and helpful. The location is also great. However, once we went around we realised that we could have booked a much better boutique hotel and around the same price. Probably with a pool and other facilities.

breakfast was rather simple. place where breakfast is served is not so convenient. i was very impressed by the quality of service and assistance of angelica, at front desk. she was most helpful in providing info about the city and organizing tours and other details. this made our stay very pleasant.

Lovely area of Cartagena to stay in. The room we had was clean and a great size for two people. The included communal breakfast was a nice way to meet people and exchange travel tips, and the pool helped cool off after a day of walking around the local historic streets.

We had a very special time in Cartagena. The hotel was beautiful, clean, quiet, everything working well. Breakfasts were amazing. We had dinner in the restaurant, which is quite new. Very nice reception ,hotel is clean ,not hot water but not that cold anyway !air conditioning is good.Breakfast is simple but good!everybody was very helpful!Just make sure when you make a reservation they did understood everything !number of people ,number of bed etc... just to be safe!

In the old town center, very convenient for travelling. The location is wonderful! There are many flowers and trees in the hotel, make it more sweet in staying. The only I recommend that if the hotel can equip with kettle, it will be better. Because all the people need to buy plastic botton water, it is really not good for environment.

I loved my stay here the hostel is unique - with such large rooms you'd think it would be loud but I found it very cosy. Breakfast every day was simple but nice to have. Small kitchen but I only noticed one or two people cooking in the four days I spent there. The staff are the best part though. Helped me practice Spanish, very responsive, helpful and friendly.

I accepted these extra fees but it would have been nice if they gave me a freebie on this stay In general the rooms are ok, the pool is nice, the gym has a few cardio machines and nothing really to train muscle. Watch out when going to the beach. Don't accept anything or they will walk all over you and make you pay things you didn't even want. There are guards between the hotel and beach to help you out if the "sellers" on the beach become aggresive. I noticed that its better to stay at the pool area than the beach (unfortunately).

The best hotel during our entire trip. I was initially staying in the Bocagrande area thinking that it was perhaps safer. Take my advice and stay here within the walled city instead. Great location with many good restaurants in close proximity. Great English speaking staff, esp Palao (sp?). We asked for a room was good wifi and were place immediately next to the router. Very strong signal, enough for video streaming. Clean, spacious rooms. Strong A/C. Lovely garden in the middle. Beautiful hotel. We were allowed a very late check out at a nominal fee. This hotel does not try to sneak the VAT. You'll appreciate this once you realize that it could cost you hundreds in even US dollars by the end of your stay in Colombia. I could not have asked for a better experience and could only wish that every hotel is like this one. Best value for a wonderful hotel. It receives my full recommendation.

The value for money is very standard. Hostel is clean but rooms are small and with smell of mold. The staff was helpful and polite except the lady prepairing our breakfast. The location is excellent, also the public spaces of the hostel. The rest was just standard.

Incredible authentic experience at Casa Logos! Close to everything, safe and great location. The place is cozy and very comfortable. Breakfast is delicious! Staff isn’t very friendly and accommodating. Our experience was truly wonderful. We would highly recommend beautiful Casa Logos to everyone visiting Cartagena.

Very good location, only 15 minutes walk to the old walled city, the neighborhood itself has colonial style. Facility is good but the room has some insects because all the windows are open to keep the temperature of room cool, yet the room Is still veeery hot at night... I woke up 2 times because I was all sweaty ...

I loved this hostel mostly due to the staff and fellow travelers. From management to the daily staff members, everyone was very friendly and helpful with whatever you needed. Thus is located in a great area of the city and a quick walk to most of the popular destinations you want to visit.

While in Cartagena we spent most of our time in and around the walled city. We never set foot in Boco Grande as we are artists and like to do non-tourist things. Our room was adequate for three adult travelers with cubbyholes and shelves for our stuff which were lacking in other hotels we stayed at in the city. Breakfast was simple and relaxed. Our room was adequate for three adult travelers with cubbyholes and shelves for our stuff which were lacking in other hotels we stayed at in the city. Breakfast was simple and relaxed. The dining area is very small so you might end up eating on your own balcony. A water cooler was available 24 - 7 which was much appreciated in the heat of the city! Like most of the hotels in the city, there is no hot water but who cares when it is 90 degrees and humid out! Also, like every other hotel we were in on the coast, you don't flush the toilet paper. Colombia's sewer system must be fragile. Finally, bring your own washcloth because none of the hotels we were in had one.

A perfect mix of social atmosphere and able to get a good nights rest. Great location, close to the supermarket. Loved the pool, beds were confortable, and the aircon between 8pm-8am was wonderful. Special thanks to the amazing staff who go above and beyond. They are what really made this place a perfect 10. Will be staying here if ever back in Cartagena.

This is one of the best hostels I have stayed in. The staff is super accommodating to everyone, trying their best to help each and everyone with their problems. I booked 2 nights and stayed 7 nights! For only 15.000COP per night you couldn't say anything. Plenty of good showers and toilets. Good seating area in the backyard. Only point is that the AC only works from 7pm to 8am. It's not a big deal at all. I'd come back for sure!

Booked a double room with toilet/shower. Diana and her husband were very friendly and kind during our stay and overall I had a great time. This is a great budget option for travellers to Cartagena. Booked a double room with toilet/shower. Diana and her husband were very friendly and kind during our stay and overall I had a great time. This is a great budget option for travellers to Cartagena. Although it does come with a few caveats: - Casa Torices Real is located in a real, rather poor Barrio close to the old city (about 7 minutes by taxi). As such, it's important to be aware of your surroundings and be extra cautious at night. I would advise against traveling alone at night. - Although my room was clean and very quaint, the water pressure was very, very low and at times the shower simply ran out of water. Also, there was no door separating the toilet from the rest of the room, just a partial wall, which can be a bit off-putting. - Finally, the curtain in the room was pretty transparent. Therefore it was possible for other guests passing by to see inside. Fixed this using a towel, but only after being "spotted".

The location was great, close to the hub of Getsemani and just a short walk from outside the walls of the old town. Air conditioning in the rooms which is a relief from the heat of Cartagena. Unfortunately the internet did not work very well most of the time.

This is the perfect place to stay if you want a safe, clean refuge in a convenient area. I booked for 2 nights and stayed for much longer than that in the end, using it as a base to travel to the islands and other places. This is the perfect place to stay if you want a safe, clean refuge in a convenient area. I booked for 2 nights and stayed for much longer than that in the end, using it as a base to travel to the islands and other places. This is a family run affair but the people are lovely (massive understatement) and give you the latitude to feel welcome and comfortable. During my stay, I noticed the staff constantly bent over backwards to make sure everyone was happy. They organised tours for me at great prices, shuffled things around to help others, and even cooked us an early breakfast when we took the early boat to Isla Grande. If you like to party at the hostel, this might not be right for you, but if you like to meet good people and go and party elsewhere with them, this is a good place. The people that run this place do it because they enjoy it not because they have to. I will miss these people, and will stay there next time.

My experience started poorly - I had a private room with private bath reserved, and when I got there they had lost it and tried to put me into a way inferior room, which we didn't find acceptable. What was great though is that Andres helped us located another hotel, and then continued to help us during the entire duration of our stay, if ever we needed anything. Because of Andres' excellent attention, our bad experience was turned into a positive one even though we didn't end up staying there.

If there was water pressure, then I would rate this as ok. I did not expect hot water, but a modicum of cold water pressure in the shower and sink should be a requisite. At times, during two of the three nights Iwas there, there was no water pressure at all. Other times, a mere trickle of cold water emanated from the shower head. Hotel Marlin was VERY noisy both outside of the hotel doors, and inside. Other guests kept us awake until 3:30 AM at night because they w ere being loud in the public area. The night staff did not tell them to be quiet. The surrounding area was also very loud with a lot of loud music and bars. Not a good place to sleep.

Seems like they are only after tourists' money. The staff is really not nice nor helpful. Each of my dorm mates had an unpleasant experience with them. They were not willing to guard someone's backpack after he checked out, I myself asked innocently when I just arrived if there is someone that can help me carrying the suitcase up the stairs and immediately the receptionist told me: "no, it's not a service that we give". They were very strict with people about check out time, but nonetheless the cleaner entered the room before cgeck out time and took all the bed sheets, also from guests who still didn't leave. Not clean, poor shower and more. But the main issue is the not friendly staff. There are so many nice hostels with good staff, so I can only advice to stay away from this one, no matter how cheap it is.

The mattress was so old we both sunk into the middle making for an uncomfortable sleep. The sheets for the double bed seemed like they came from someone’s house many years ago - very thin, even holes, stains. The towels, while cleaned, had stains everywhere. We asked for a new set of sheets and towels upon arrival. The staff were great and accommodated us but unfortunately they were the same. Some simple updates like getting a toilet seat that fits the rim and a shower certain that stops the water from going everywhere would be an improvement. We left a few comments, so hopefully they will update. Generally, the rest of the hostel was kept very clean, and the women who work there are so wonderful! Overall we don’t recommend the double room bc we think we could have found a nicer place for around the same price.

the hotel is located perfectly in san diego in the middle of the old city of cartagena. the rooms are well appointed and clean. very comfortable bed. we stayed in a suite, which had a very cool, extremely large bathroom. the staff are very helpful and friendly. the hotel promotes a really nice, happy, friendly environment with communal breakfast by the pool.

I stayed two nights and got very little sleep. I asked to change rooms, but a comparable room was not available. The staff was incredibly friendly, the breakfast was good, and the internet was fast. However, none of this made up for the fact that I paid $240 for essentially two sleepless nights. I would never stay there again.

We took a boat to La Playa de Blanco and it was a nice afternoon on white sands. Negotiate prices first, as some people will try to swindle you. Advice - Check your mini bar carefully, they counted ours but didn't restock and tried to double charge us. Check local information online, the tour operator there doesn't not advise on local prices, only what the hotel offers.

The Casa Canabal is in an area with a few other boutique hotels and backpacker hotels/hostels and is not in the touristy areas. The hotel itself is an oasis of tranquility, with excellent design and comfort. I loved it!

I cannot say enough wonderful things about my stay at this hotel. From the moment I walked in the door to inquire about room availability, I was met with a warm smile and a sincere desire to help. Marjorie was working in reception and was happy to speak English in order to assist me. During our 4 night stay, she proved to be incredibly helpful and adeptly assisted us with all of our needs. The owner also made it a point to meet us at check,in and was a very lovely and pleasant lady. We saw her throughout our stay and she always asked us how we were and seemed genuinely interested in our happiness. The entire staff were extremely helpful throughout our stay and accommodated a couple of special requests with grace and precision. I simply cannot say enough how welcome we were made to feel by all. Besides the staff, the small hotel is an absolutely beautiful property. Due to our schedule and room availability, we had the pleasure of staying in two different rooms during our stay. Both were lovely and the staff maintained and cleaned them more frequently than in any hotel I've ever stayed in. The beds were incredibly comfortable and every detail and need seemed to be anticipated. My only complaint is that the hotel was so comfortable and accommodating that we didn't explore Cartagena as much as we should have. :)

Love the location, a busy street but beautifully central, yet very quiet inside. The small pool was a joy to cool down in, the rooftop breakfasts were delicious and the views superb - and we managed to sneak up to the very top roof for a quiet siesta alone at times! Very helpful staff and comfy beds.

I chose this hotel because of the neighborhood and the many glowing reviews that the hostess Sara received. Exceeded expectations. The Getsemani location is perfect: Quiet, charming street footsteps to all the action. Loved the traditioanal feel of the hotel. The room itself was spacious and extremely clean. Simply can't recommend strongly enough. This is the place!

This is a very nice hotel. IT is located in a very nice house, an old house, but everything has been renovated. IT opened 7 months ago. The best thing was the staff, they were all great. This is a very nice hotel. IT is located in a very nice house, an old house, but everything has been renovated. IT opened 7 months ago. The best thing was the staff, they were all great. This is very unusual in Cartagena. The second best thing was the architecture of the house, a very nice place. Breakfast was fine, although not amazing. The room had a safe and free wifi (which worked). Safe neighborhood. There us a beach 1 block away. A couple of negative things, perhaps the fact that they don´t offer any food besides breakfast, so if you are tired in the evening you still have to go out to eat. And the tour to the Rosario Islands that we booked through the hotel, I wouldn't recommend it at all. The boat was not good enough and the guide was just interested in getting more money from tourists, he turned the trip into an unpleasant experience. But this hotel, most definitely, is a great option for Cartagena and I would defintely come back and recommend it to friends.

The coffee should be better , this is Colombia! It was too strong and the coffee grounds passed through the filter .... The kids' pool was under of construction so the adult Pool became the kids pool. It was so crowded we didn't get to enjoy it.

Breakfast was the best part. Too many drawbacks. AC stuck was freezing and only a sheet provided. No hot watering shower. Only one small lock on door. At one point paddle lock was on the gate and no one was around to let us out. A bit of a fire hazard. Would not stay again but may be ok for others. Moved after one night

Noon Checkout was appreciated Cons: Wanted to book a day trip to Rosario islands and went to the front desk and the person made a call on his cell and passed it to me to speak with someone we could barely understand. We didn’t get anywhere so I had to walk to a travel stand to book a trip which was harder since they also didn’t speak English. That Wasn’t 4* service. Our shampoo and conditioners were never replaced. Pool isn’t that inviting..only a few seats and tiny. Not a spot we wanted to grab a drink on unlike other roofs we stayed at in Colombia.. overall clean and good stay

Absolute right hotel in Cartagena. Location, facilities, staff, friendliness, rooms you name it. Hotel Caribe Cartagena have it all and on the other side of the street you have the beach. 10 min to the old town. What more do you want. Excellent definitely not last time for us.

Our first encounter was not great. We were given an inside room with practically no light. The top floor had an infinity pool with chaise lounges, a restaurant and a fantastic view of the city. Our room had great linens, i pad, beautiful bathroom with top of the line amenities. The bathrobe in the room was the best! Location was perfect and super close to great restaurants and shopping in the walled city. The front of the hotel was being torn up with new pavements but that was a minor issue. Music at night went on until 3:00 a.m. Not a terrible problem either. Breakfast was expensive on the main floor so we ate on the top floor restaurant for much less money

This is my first trip to Colombia and Cartagena. I travelled to Cartagena with friends to celebrate a birthday. I could not fault our stay at the Hotel Almirante and our stay was perfect in all respects. The staff were friendly and helpful. The Hotel was more than happy to provide a small cake to help celebrate the birthday and provided a lovely card to the birthday girl who was celebrating her 14th birthday. The hotel was within walking distance to a shopping centre and restaurants. We found it relatively easy to get around. I would stay at this hotel again without hesitation.

This hotel met all of its claims. It is a little distance from Cartagena but has a frequent free shuttle bus to the airport and old city. The food and variety of food were excellent and the activity options very good. This is a very good family destination. We speak Spanish but non Spanish speakers may find the going difficult

We had a good stay at this hotel. The place is a Impressive Cartagena/Colonial style Heritage Hotel with friendly staff who provide well for your needs. Despite being a small hotel it is well equipped and the staff are knowledgeable about Cartagena and are able to provide information on local restaurants, gyms, transport, tours and activities. The rooms are faithful to the Heritage aspect and modern amenities have been tastefully incorporated. They even have a small spa. The breakfast could have more on offer, but all the food was tasty. The breakfast room is a beautiful salon with high ceilings and antique furniture. The pool is the centre of the inner courtyard and has comfortable romantic sitting spots all around that encourage you to sit back and read a book whilst you sip cocktails. This Hotel is cosy, calm and romantic.

In short, we were disappointed. We expected more after the rave reviews. This was our wedding anniversary and we had planned for a special treat. In short, we were disappointed. We expected more after the rave reviews. This was our wedding anniversary and we had planned for a special treat. We tried to book through the hotel's website, which wasn't possible, so we sent an email to ask about price and availability. Before we received a response, we found that there were rooms available through Agoda and went ahead and booked. we had high hopes for Casa Blanca when we moved over there. Our room was beautiful, but very noisy (the 2nd night there was a wedding which made for an extremely noisy night). Breakfast was average at best (fairly bland and not great quality, some of the items on the menu not available on all 3 breakfast mornings). The service at breakfast was not great, the gentleman taking the orders forgot items, had to be reminded and never checked on us (and there were not many people having breakfast at the same time). He spent more time behind closed doors in the kitchen than looking after guests. Room service was very patchy too, one out of three nights we had a turn down service, not sure what happened the other two nights. The cleaning service could benefit from a check list (we never got the two wash cloths replaced we had the first night, then didn't get a shower mat, one day we came back from a tour to find our door unlocked, which is a bit worryingly). The small pool would have been nice if it had been cleaned more often. The front desk service was great in the evenings, but less than average during the day (not customer focused). So all in all, we hope Casa Blanca will live up to its reputation and improve dramatically.

Nice big room view on swimming pool and beach. Bathroom very clean with shower and bathtub robe, iron, hair dryer everything to be a 5 stars hotel. Staff speak English. 5 minutes from Airport and 10 minutes from Old city. The Taxi from $3 to $5 dollars. Breakfast buffet with fresh fruits juices, rice, meats, pancakes, fresh omelettes etc...

don't bother, there are plenty more places in cartagena, this one is not recommended. incapable staff, not clean and if i could upload pics so u would believe me u would be shocked. hard bed, dead bugs, this place almost ruined our experience in the city.

I love this property. The bed room is cozy and comfy, the bed is heaven. Dining and living room makes me feels like home. Juan Carlos, the owner show me where to lunch, knowing i dont speak Spanish , he even write what i have to order so i get the right food. His recomendation to dine at La Vitrola Resto make my trip completed !!!

Traveler impressions of Cartagena
The best part of the city is the beaches. The historic city can be seen in a couple of hours and it isnt that great, other than the restaurants.
It's too touristy in the center and it doesn't feel like any locals really live there
Do NOT go to Cartagena to relax on the beach, it will NOT happen. You will be pestered each and every second you are on the beach, massage, food, music players, etc.
.. will hound you until you want to leave. You will have NO peace and quiet at ALL EVER! Cartagena is best for sight seeing the old walled city and fort. If you want to see a beach Tayrona is THE place to have a relaxing time on the beach but it is very remote and only has one over priced hotel so you must be willing to pay over $300 a night or drive one hour each day and walk for one hour or rent horses to take you to the beach as it is remote and in a National park which you will have to pay like 36,000 pesos for foreigners for entry which is well worth the price as these beaches are awesome! Tayrona is about 4 hours north by Taxi which is the BEST way to get there unless you don't mind LONG bus rides with multiple stops and waiting (total time by bus is around 5.5 to 6 hours) The bus is cheap only 40,000 pesos per person, so I feel a taxi at 300,000 pesos is to me WELL worth it as time and comfort is more precious to me!
Don't come here for the beaches, they are dirty brown and the water does not look clean either. Lots of trash and the peddlers of fruit, massage, and trinkets will go beyond annoying! The best part of Cartagena is Centro, the old walled city.
The walls are stone from hundreds of years ago and great architecture inside the walled city.
This was my second visit to Cartagena. The local food is fantastic and there are lots of bars and restaurants open late into the evening.
Be sensible, though, and don't flaunt cameras, etc, as there is still a lot of poverty to be seen, particularly in the non-touristy areas.
In my opinion, Cartagena is beautiful. Lots of history and the nightlife is great. In checking out the sights, I would suggest "La Chiva".
If you go, you can't miss the bus with all the people inside. It will take you to all the major sightseeing places. There is a stop in front of the El Dorado hotel on Ave San Martin. Taxi rides for the most part are inexpensive. Beaches are clean. The only complaint, people trying to sell you stuff all the time.
Fantastic place- is a cross between elegance and a state of decay depending on the street, but overall you feel like you have stepped back in time.
Forget the big hotels of the Bocogrande and stay inside the old city for a true experience of this great historic center. The beach is not great, or with blue water- you must travel further north or south for that
I went in November: too hot during the day. Besides for walking in the city, touristic attractions are expensive.

More about Cartagena
This is a favorite honeymoon destination in Colombia, and a quick survey of the hotels near Cartagena reveals fine luxury options. In the colonial city, a few renovated heritage homes and monasteries have been converted into sublime luxury options. A greater selection covering all budgets is in the near center district of Bocagrande. This district is outside the compact colonial quarter and hosts high-rise hotels on a narrow, sandy peninsula.
Old-world colonial charm lingers over the plazas and cobblestone alleys of Cartagena. Stroll through the walled historic quarter for an overview of what this city has to offer. Tourists quickly realize that it is best discovered spontaneously, taking time to stop by a cozy restaurant in Getsemaní between visits to the Palace of Inquisition or the Church of Santa Domingo.
The beach at Cartagena would undoubtedly receive more attention if not for the enchanting colonial quarter. Beaches like Playa Blanca are ready to receive tourists wanting to swim or just relax in a hammock. Beach accommodation in Cartagena offers good value for money due to the popularity of staying it the colonial city.
Rafael Nunez Airport isn't far from the city center but still warrants a quick taxi ride. In the inner and outer walled cities, tourists typically get around on foot, though a taxi is needed to visit San Felipe fort.
