More about Chanthaburi

The city of Chanthaburi is the capital of eastern Thailand’s province of the same name, and the perfect jumping off point to explore the famous islands of Koh Kut and Koh Chang. Being approximately four hours away from Bangkok by car, the city is relatively easy to reach and often sees a large number of city residents coming into the small coastal town during long weekends or vacations. There is a regular bus schedule that departs from downtown Bangkok every day, arriving directly in the city. Once in the city, getting around is easily done either on foot, local bus, or by local taxis, most of which are motorcycles.

Chanthaburi is home to Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, which is the largest church in Thailand and definitely a place not to be missed. The structure has stayed intact, for many years, even having survived the destruction of the Second World War.

Camping enthusiasts and travelers who enjoy spending time in the outdoors should not miss a visit to Leam Sing National Park, which is an impressive forest and park system that includes everything from a secluded temple to a relatively undisturbed beach. Chanthaburi is certainly a place that offers something for everyone, and the city alone can be explored over a period of many days, getting everything from museums to beaches to forests. What’s more, once all the exploring at Chanthaburi is complete, take a ferry to one of the surrounding islands.

There’s a lot more to see and do in Chanthaburi, and the best way to discover what else this city has to offer in terms of attractions, landmarks, and hotels is by exploring the interactive map on this page.
