What Can I say? It is my home state. I cannot say something to devalue the city. I am seeing this city since 1983.
But Nowadays the city is not so clean (especially the suburbs). It may be that I visited immediately after the flood due to rain, hence it may not be clean. But, the city administration is really bad. I did not see any cleaning staffs working on the roads to clean it after flood. Lot of garbage on the road sides, drainages spilling over. I really pity on this historic city being neglected by all political parties.

Big, busy city. It is an amazing city with amazing people. I love it here, I have come to Chennai 3 times in 2015.
It embraces you with so much and leaves you wanting to return. There are negatives as Chennai is enroute to becoming a modern city, so expect some negatives here and there. Overall an awesome place.
Chennai is good for shopping, dining and sight seeing. Chennai is crowed city. Hot, humid and dusty.
Chennai is congested and traffic laws are in the hands of the driver. Amazingly hardly any accidents.
But good place for sight seeing and shopping.
If going to Chennai and you miss something like shopping mall where there is good place to eat and air conditioning, remember to visit Phoenix mall (biggest shopping mall in Chennai) or Express Avenue shopping mall.
For sight seeing, must visit Marina beach, Fort St.George, Government museum, and Kapaleeshwara temple
Chennai is good place to see things and sightseeing around the city, there are many places to visit such as temples, Marina beach, Santhome basilica, Fort st.
George. The transportation that are similar to taxi in this city called Auto, which is a three wheels car, every time you ask for price you need to negotiated because when they see foreigner, they will increase the price by about 30%.
Chennai is a good city for sight seeing and visit several popular tourist attraction like Santhome basilica and several other temples, don't for get to visit Marina beach and government museum as it is quite popular among tourist
The tourist spots were interesting. Great people with a big heart to be helpful anytime of the day. Great place for all sorts of shopping.
Chennai is a great place to understand theworks religious institutions, shopping and the nice people
a rich traditional heritage city, large in size with the one of the largest beaches in the world. good food and good people.
You must try the Briyani rice and vegetarian good. There are lot of shopping area where you can local dress.
A good city with friendly people. It was known for its disciplined traffic once upon a time However the Metro rail work has imparted some chaos.
Chennai is very close to historical places like Mahabalipuram. One can take the 'Chettinad cuisine' also typical south Indian food. Marina Beach will be an unforgettable experience for beach lovers. There are several shops like 'Nalli' and 'Kumarans' which sell pure silk Sarees and dress materials.
Chennai is a beautiful city, bus, train fare is less than 50cents. Easy to travel, though downside is mostly you will find the information in Tamil.
You may have figure it out by yourself which bus/train to take for reaching your destination spot
There is not much to see or do here in comparison to the vast amount of other places you can go in India.
However, the food is great, the people are very friendly/honest, and it is a good jumping point for the andaman islands/maldives
The city has become cleaner compared to my last visit in 2013. Must try the restaurants like the Viruthunagar, Thalapakatti Briyani and Chettinad for non veg food and Saravan Bhavan for veg (but the staff must be more courteous at Saravana Bhavan).
I am a hindu so I love to visit the temples there but there must be some strict rules on beggars around the temple as it is very stressful to manage them.
This is one of my favourite places to visit for temples, shopping and glorious food. It is fast becoming a modern metropolitan with amenities equal to the western countries.
Despite the modernization, the food still tastes good.
There is too much dust and sand along the streets of Chennai. Roads are rough for strolls. It is better to travel by call-taxis than by auto rickshaws.
Chennai has improved from what it used to be in yesteryears. But there needs to be a paradigm shift in the attitude of the inhabitants towards orderliness and tidiness.
Smells if sewage in most of the city. People openly go to the toilet on the side of the road. Lots of litter is almost everywhere.
Chaotic, crowded, dirty. Not a tourist destination. Go only if you have to, or to get a connecting onward flight.
Get out as quickly as possible!
There is a lot to do in Chennai but the beaches aren't one of those activities I'd recommend. Plenty of shopping ranging from traditional street-front vendors through to Western style malls.
The zoo looks like a good option and is substantially a wildlife refuge, not an animal show. There are a range of religious and cultural facilities worth looking at but be aware of crowding and that most temples don't open until 4:30 pm.
Tnagar,Panagal park,Pondy Bazaar,Vadapalani murugan temple,Kabalishwar temple,Besant Nagar beach is a must place to go
chennai is heaven for shopping.3 days will not enough for shopping alone....need to stay atleast a week here to enjoy all the sightseeing, shopping and food
Its very conjusted traffic and driving is not recommended. Due to lane change discipline. But nevertheless everywhere in the other parts of the world the city is normally very crowded.
The food is fantastic. Specially the orange young coconut drink with his pulp is so good. Very nice Hindu temples, Shopping plazas and the clothing is very good quality and good pricing. The Chennai People are absolutely very friendly. Safer Cities in the world.
Roads are terrible and dusty. No proper hygiene and auto drivers do not use their meters for passengers.
They simply say a big amount to transport passengers.
Probably the ugliest city in India and having visited 135 countries, one of the ugliest in the world.
Colors...is what i think of Chennai and India in general. Its extraordinary and breath taking to see so many people and traffic going by you.
Get to the out skirt and you see peaceful beaches and parks. Rush to the city center for shopping. Every place is fixed price so you need not worry about bargaining and getting rip off. Then there are the the beautiful temples and the ancient historic scpultures. I have never got enough of Chennai even after visiting here regularly for the last 10 over years.
Chennai is business city and also have fun here. Long marina beach located at chennai. This is the main attraction of chennai.
Good for shopping.
Chennai is a big city, but not a metropolitan... you can try the excellent vegetarian meals... you can buy anything very cheap, eg: saari:)) Anyway don't forget to buy 4-5 saari!!!:))
