Traveler impressions of Chumphon

More about Chumphon

The Chumphon Archipelago is home to many of Thailand’s most popular tourist destinations, including the idyllic islands of Koh Tao and Koh Samui, to name just a couple. The city of Chumphon is located right in the center of this province, and is a gateway to the archipelago of many islands. For this reason alone, this city in Thailand’s Central Gulf Coast is extremely popular among local and international tourists.

The city is served by Chumphon Airport, which has recently seen a major expansion and hosts flights from regional and budget carriers from Bangkok.

There are several hotels and resorts dotting the shoreline along the famous Hat Thung Wua Laen (Running Bull Beach). This beach is one of the most popular in the city, and happens to be the perfect destination for beach goers who also want to experience some of the dinning and nightlife scenes for which this area is so well known.

Sai Ri Beach is where the Prince of Chumphon Shrine is located, which is exrtremely sacred for the people of this and neighboring provinces. The shrine stands facing the sea, and nearby there is a historical museum complete with artifacts and exhibits. In addition to being culturally and historically significant, this shrine is a picturesque location that is often recommended as a must-see destination.
