Surprisingly complete city on the way from north to south (or to or from the islands). Who knows what they were thinking when they "planned" the road system but hey, when visiting it's just a freaky extra.
Cool surroundings with lots of small roads with not so much trafic. Obviusly this was also recognised already by all the bikeriders training for summer season.
There are boats going to different islands from here, so if you fancy going there it is convenient to get there from here.
Chumphon is a quieter "country town/city" suitable for a stop on the way north from the resorts of Phuket, Samui etc down south.
Most people/travellers would go right past it on the way to Hua Hin or Bangkok, but it's worth a short stay to see how a NON-tourist place operates.
Great stop off point before going to the islands - lots of nice resonable places to eat, drink and shop.
Nice lively small town. Nothing in the town as far as old architecture ormsuch, but nice to walk at the markets and such.
Good food available.
It is obvious that Champion is one of those places that people pass by to go to nicer beaches like those of Koh Tao.
... however, the area is good if you want to relax as other than going to the beach, there's nothing to do!
Great place really. Lovely tree-lined avenues on the edge of town. Most Thai cities look near-enough identical to each other but Chumphon has real character.
Great Swiss chalet Railway station too and nice beach with a really cute collection of restaurants and bars just about 20 mins out of town. Has a nice river with a great old box girder bridge..oh, and an airport.
Chumphon itself is not a tourist area and any tourists we did see were in transit. One night stay is plenty enough to wander about, see the smallish night market, find a bar and head back to the hotel to rest for your onward journey.
Small city but Nice location of the beach for scuba or snorkel as people is very friendship and seravel of sea- food
Gate to the South of Thailand - this peaceful city located in the middle between Andaman and Gulf of Thailand with many tourist attractions hidden for discover.
Great seafood and restaurants are available with reasonable price. Perfect place for diving.
Nice town to drop by a day or two if you on the way to Bangkok or Hua Hin from the southern Thailand
Friendly atmosphere with friendly people...great taste of local delicacies with great restaurant...a MUST to visit and stay for relaxation.
..but to find local taxi "chut chut" is very hard as the taxi can carry 1 passenger with motorcycle...
Good place for stopover. Hotels are inexpensive and of good quality. Prices for food and shopping less expensive than on the beaches.
Still typically thai. Many things are not written in English.
"Lovely hotel and service with a smile" "Lovely hotel and service with a smile" "Lovely hotel and service with a smile"
Chumphon is, in my opinion, a transit city. People that are going somewhere else stop here for the day to rest.
There wasn't much to see or do, but because of it's geographic location, the tourism industry is very organized and accessible.
Very quiet town. Suitable for seminar group. Not much activities outside hotel. Not developed for tourist yet.
A typical Thai small town. Not many attractions in the town itself (it is also a long, long way from the beach).
Most attractions are about 30 minutes drive from the town centre. There is a good, very cheap local bus service.
There are some good spots hidden away from tourists in the city and nearby. There are beaches close by, good shopping outlets, Tesco, Big C, shopping mall and some good thai night life if you know where to find it.
Quite nice for a Thai town.
Although not known for its gold courses, there are 2 very nice courses available to play nearby. The Novotel 9 hole course 077 529 529, is very scenic with good clubs available for rent and weekly specials.
the second course Ake Udomphan 077 596 664, is near the main highway to Bangkok and also has 9 holes, some of which are very long and narrow. This course also has a driving range. Both courses are very cheap compared to western or Bangkok courses. I enjoy, playing them both often.
