Cradle Mountain

Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park is an incredible destination for travelers looking to visit the island of Tasmania. The area is ideal for travelers who enjoy the outdoors and being amongst the elements of nature. Reach this destination is done entirely by road and can take between 1 and 3 hours depending on the place of departure and the destination.

Cradle Mountain and Lake St. Clair are both the major attractions in this national park. But the surroundings boast a number of other natural wonders. Nearly a dozen other mountains are nearby, including Mount Ossa – the highest in Tasmania. Vegetation ranges from rainforest to buttongrass plains and includes ancient endemic conifers. Short and long walking trails guide you through the beautiful land and provide some excellent recreation and leisure. The truly adventurous can take the Overland Track – a 65km trek from Cradle Mountain to Lake St. Clair. This can take 6 or more days to complete and is truly a rewarding challenge. Helicopter tours of the area or canyoning in the Dove River Canyon add to the experiences one can have in this incredible national park.
