Closest Airport is at Devenport which is a 2 hour drive to Cradle Mountain. Access to the National park is by car but it is recommended you use the shuttle buses from the Cradle Mountain Information Centre for the 12km journey to Dove Lake where you begin your hikes.
There is an entry fee to all National Parks.
Walked around Dove Lake and it was perfect. The snow was melting so the waterfalls were flowing, it was a cloudless day with no wind so the water reflected the mountains on the lake, truly God's country!
We spent only one night at the Cradle Mountain and did the safari to see the animals but you might find it boring as there was not much species you could see.
Haven't said that, we did hiking surrounding the Lake Dove which is really fantastic. That place looks really like a paradise and is highly recommended to do a two-hour hiking there!
it is really amazing if you like living in nature. You can see the tasmania devil in the center and also there are many animals all around.
I have join the night tour to watch the animals at night time, it is really exciting to find them in the living enviroment but not in the zoo. It is a very good chance for children to understand how people live with animals.
Cradle Mountain isn't a city, it is a large national park in the middle of Tasmania. If you like nature, it is definitely worth going.
It's beautiful, peaceful and wild animals aren't too scared of humans, so you'll be able to spot lots of wombats & wallabies. There aren't many food options, however, what's available is good :-)
Cradle mountain has excellent walks which you can see wildlife such as wombat, tiger snake and wallby if you look for them.
On hot day ensure to bring water bottle , do not drink from the tank at the shuttle bus station( my friend had tummy upset from it). First time traveller should stay in cradle mt eg discovery park. This is my second time , we stay at promised land which is 40 min away( not advisable if sunset early). Make sure u walk to Waldeim cottage near Ronny creek eventhough it is 3 or 4 pm because we saw one wombat feeding around there. Normally they come out at dusk.
Great walks and sceneries. If you need communications to the outside world, make sure you are on Telstra mobile network.
Go in the summertime. However the weather can be quite different during different times of day, so bring warm clothing.
booked a night tour to view wildlife. it was actually seated on the bus and shone in search of animals around.
we can do it ourselves. not much entertainment at night, we visited the devils cradle. not bad. we saw the devils at Zoo Doo too.
