A break fast in Keventers and Dinner in Keventers is a must! Stroll around the Mall, relax idly on the mall benches in the morning or evening and some casual purchases of tea from Nathumalls on the Mall.
A visit to Darjeeling is incomplete without a view of the Kanchenjunga and a visit in the tea estates ... you may try the route to Lamarhatta where you will find various tea estates...stop your car and take a walk around with lots of photography of the greenery.
AN old and lovely hill station in the state of West Bengal. Situated at a height of almost 7000 feet, the weather is pleasantly cool almost through out the day.
Various dining and shopping options are available as well.
Darjeeling has beautiful scenary around it but darjeeling itself is not so good. roads are very unclean.
I felt Gangtok much better than darjeeling.
Darjeeling has a lot of potential to attract tourism but it is marred by over commerialization. Most of the tourist spots are growded by local vendors selling tea/food etc.
who wouldn't mind embarassing tourist if they don't buy anything. Roads are crowded and ruined by pollution by huge number of cars (which are mainly for tourist purpose). There aren't any proper parking space, so all the cars have to park on the road size making it impossible for traffic to move and leading to traffic jams. I wish there was proper attention given to the city and make it as wonderful as it should be, it could be!
A very beautiful hill station best seen during the winter month of January when the skies are clear to give the traveller best views of the kanchenjunga range and the valleys.
Offers opportunity to also go sight seeing to places nearby - Jorepokhari, Lepchajagat, sunrise over the Tiger Hill, a ride on the famous toy train, the Japanese Pagoda & Temple, various monasteries, the Tibetan Refugee Self-Help Centre, which are a must try for any visitor. Choose your hotel carefully for best views and location and enjoy the warmth and hospitality of the people of Darjeeling. For kids, a pony ride on the Mall is fun.
Buy the tea from a lady called Ku suum near Happy Valley Tea Plantation..she is a nice, genuine lady
I planned this leg of my trip after a stay in Gangtok. If you must cover, both Gangtok and Darjeeling in a single trip, make sure you visit Gangtok, after Darjeeling.
Queen of hills isn't as Queenly, as is proclaimed in travelogues. However, Gangtok, exceeds on it's promises!!
don't~miss~these~places..Budhist~monastery~the~temple~and~Budhdha's~idols~are~magnificent.The~ropeway~is~fantastic.
we~had~just~experienced~the~one~in~Gangtok~and~the~ropeway~here~compares~very~well..it's~definitely~worth~the~money..The~Japanese~temple~is~also~worth~seeing~and~waking~up~early~in~order~to~see~the~sunrise~from~Tiger~Hills~is~worth~it.
Darjeeling is bigger and busier than I imagined. You can still detect the colonial hill station heritage but overlaid is now a bustling Indian town.
There are enough sight seeing activities to fill several days - train, tea gardens, zoo and Himalayan Mountain Institute, waling the Mall and enjoying lunch in an old colonial hotel. Catch the views of the Himalayas - the Kanchenjunga range. Expect to walk a lot, up and down quite steep streets and steps as well as on the horizontal. Shop for tea, clothing particularly warm clothing) and nic-nacs. If you have more time go trekking too.
very good hill station but the approach is horrible roads are poorly maintained Toy train is the best to travel.
