A highlight of our visit was the Senator Haz restaurant which must be one of the best in Hungary. When we weren't dipping into the Senator Haz menu we enjoyed the thermal baths which are very attractive and spotlessly clean, and just wandering around the city.
We needed more time than four days to do it justice. There were some museums we did not get to which I have been told by friends are really worth seeing and I would have liked to spend more time looking over the castle. There are some interesting shops selling traditional embroidery though some searching is required. The pleasures of the valley of the beautiful women may be oversold, but excellent local wine is available as we discovered at Senator Haz. Overall Eger is full of charm and interest and well worth the short journey from Budapest. It is very different from the capital!
