Dont try to do things too early on a weekend - Everything happens later in the day - Appears to be mainly Muslim now and it is Ramadan time so after sunset its tremendous = prior to that, one has to search to find interesting things to do.
Walking the streets of Galle enables you to go back in time to the Dutch and English traders as their influence can be experienced through the architecture, much of which is currently being restored to its former glory.
The old part Fort has some nice looking buildings and qaint streets but it is all crammed with tourists, especially around sun set when everybode gathers in one particular place.
You don't really need more than 3 or 4 hours to see this place. Jungle beach, which is a popular place nearby is not as isolated as the guide books say, when I was there is was full of people. Better go to Unawatuna - that's only on the other side of the headland - if you want a beach.
The old Fort in Galle is a nice place to stay in. The Fort has lots of quality hotels, restaurants and shops and are a little bit more "western" than the rest of Galle.
It's a beautiful town. When I stay there with my boyfriend ,we both forgotten the time .It's a good place for seeing sunrise ,it's also a good place to hanging aound.
The Galle Fort is an old city next to the Indian Ocean. People living here can enjoy listening the sound of the Ocean overnight and the good seneary in the morning.
It's old and natural with dilapidated walls and the green ocean.
We enjoyed going to church in Galle. Pity foreigner has decided to put up a bungalow infront of the church and block the beautiful view of the sea from the church.
Galle is great for gems a main city without all the hassle and bussle of Columbo, the train station easy to find for your days out to see other surrounding areas.
Has modern eats like KFC plenty of markets and western style goods from fashion to mini super markets
over rated, too difficult to get to from the airport with the roads and traffic. would be better if there is a ferry airport to galle, by sea instead of by land.
We didn't actually stay in Galle but went a few times for the sights, restaurants & to wander around Galle Fort which is a very tourist friendly area.
There are many shops selling trinkets, clothes, jewellery & lots of places to eat & hang out.
galle is a very beautiful colonial city. You can go around on foot or with rikshaw. unawatuna is a nice beach with quiet waters and no big waves.
Try the good restaurants at the beachfront !
You can visit this town to see fort or for shopping. We have visited Shopping Center Rich Look, you can find there diffrent kinds of clothes.
Galle Fort is worth visiting and full of character. The surrounding area is good for beach lovers albeit swimming is confined to few areas
Galle is an interesting place. The Galle fort is rich in history and visitors can see the fishermen on stilts along the beach at Galle.
The most interesting point is Galle Fort. It's a real old fort which was built in 16xx. Old houses are almost kept in good condition.
beautiful architecture with dutch type design, happeninh crowd and some awesome cafes in galle fort make is a must see place.
Don't stay in Galle. There are plenty of good beach resorts nearby. Half day visit to the Galle fort area is sufficient.
Galle is surrounded by beaches all beaches are good and nice to see. The beaches offer water sport and turtle watching.
you can find a few massage centers to relax yourself here. galle has a fort and some few small places of interest
Nice place to stay but not that many things going on, def. not if you want to party. But really good for relaxation
Careful of snorkeling since water can be murky. Diving boats were basic and outings were without food and beverage.
Good to know! Much of the area is filled with young people, touristy families... Inside the Fort is designed for visitors with boutiques lining the little streets. It's an easily walkable area.
Galle was a pleasant surprise. I had expected a beach town but it is an old historic fort town. Beautiful views.
A small town you can wander around and discover great architecture, shops, galleries and cafes. The Fort Printer's Hotel and Crepeology are a must. Jewelry shops abound but note they are pricier than Colombo if you are looking to make some serious gem stone purchases.
It's a colonial paradise. A perfect illustration of Portuguese, Dutch, British, and Sri Lankans from 1505- 1948
Gammal fin stad som stog emot tsunamin och där murarna skyddade staden och inget vatten kom ens in på gatorna!
Small city, foreigner welcome area, many galleries and shops. It is the world heritage site, well reservation.
Galle is a nice place to wonder around but no need to stay overnight, Unawatuna is good for a couple of days
This is a beautiful town. The Galle Fort and lighthouse are fantastic. There is a dutch church and library.
I love this town.
Galle is historic and can give you nostalgic feelings. Can stay here to relax in the fort for a few days.
Lovely Place to visit and love the fort. Could walk around there for hours and love the shopping there.
