Discover the neighborhoods of Gifu

Gifu is the capital city of the prefecture of the same name, located in the region of Chubu. While Chubu International Airport is just an hour from Gifu’s city center, the Tokaido Main Line and Takayama Line both have frequent service to Gifu Railway Station.

Gifu enjoys the distinction of being the only place in Japan where the tradition of Cormorant Fishing is still carried out every year during the months of May through October. This special fishing method is a unique, night-fishing spectacle involving lanterns and a fire show, all carried out near the Nagara River Ukai.

Sitting at the top of Mount Kinka and offering a spectacular view of the entire city from its top, Gifu Castle is a popular attraction for many visitors to this city. The castle isn’t very easy to get to, being on the top of a mountain, but a relaxed hike to get to the top is a great way to enjoy a day, capping it off with the panoramic views of the city from the top.

There’s much more to see and do in Gifu, and the interactive map on this page is a great way to explore where the attractions and hotels can be found in this exciting city.
