More about Granada

The city of Granada has been a favorite among travelers for many years, and for good reason. Located in the South of Spain, this ancient city has been inhabited by humans for over 2500 years. To say Granada has a long and rich history would be an understatement, and much of this is preserved in its architecture, where Moorish castles and Renaissance cathedrals shine against a backdrop of the stunning Sierra Nevada.

The city is served by Granada Airport, officially known as the Federico Garcia Lorca Granada-Jaen Airport. The airport connects Granada to major Spanish cities such as Madrid and Barcelona, and there are several hotels within easy reach of the airport.

Granada has many attractions that should not be missed, and perhaps the biggest one of them is the Alhambra. This Moorish citadel dates back to the 14th century and is located on top of a hill in the Albaicin district. The intricate stonework and delicate embellishments of mosaic tiles, reflection pools, and detailed arabesques make it easy to understand why the Alhambra is an undisputed marvel and the most visited site in all of Spain.

The UNIESCO World Heritage site of Albaicin is also home to Granada’s other storied attraction, the Granada Cathedral. This cathedral, which was built over the span of 180 years, is a testament to Granada’s heritage as a medieval city that has remained true to its history over the course of so many years. The nearby Sierra Nevada is also a favorite among travelers to Granada, especially perfect for skiing or trekking.

There’s a lot more to see and do in Granada, and the best way to discover what else this city has to offer in terms of attractions, landmarks, and hotels is by exploring the interactive map on this page.
