Grand Canyon (AZ)

The Grand Canyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and an incredible geographical wonder. It certainly isn’t the only canyon in the world, and it sets no records for its size. But its grandeur is attributed to its desert environment and well-preserved rock layers. Pulliam Airport in Flagstaff is the closest commercial airport to the canyon, but the airports in Las Vegas and Phoenix are used by many as a point of entry before taking the final leg by road.

There are four notable areas that define the Grand Canyon experience – North Rim, South Rim, the Havasupai Indian Reservation, and the Hualapai Indian Reservation. The South Rim is where travelers will find Grand Canyon Village with its historic buildings and crowds. It is also where Desert View and the Watchtower provide incredible vistas. The North Rim is 10 minutes away by flight or a 5-hour long drive away, but it offers a far more peaceful experience. The Havasupai Indian Reservation is quite a popular draw and features world class waterfalls and camping in Supai Village. The Hualapai Indian Reservation hosts some recreation as well as the Grand Canyon Skywalk – a glass bottomed walkway that extends out over the rim.
