Traveler impressions of Hannover

More about Hannover

Hanover is an amazing little destination in Germany and serves as the capital of Lower Saxony. The city was one of the heaviest hit during World War II, leaving only a few historical landmarks. The Old City is relatively new after all the reconstruction, and the houses found here were collected from around the city. Nonetheless, Hanover has risen above and made a name for itself as the Exhibition City with a massive exhibition center and several of the world’s biggest exhibition centers. International travelers can utilize the services of Hanover Airport, and there are trains, buses, and an excellent road system for regional and domestic travelers.

Hanover doesn’t carry the usual flair of most European cities, seeing as it lost much of that during the war. But hosting the World EXPO 2000 saw great improvements made to the city and its public services. Its facilities have made the city the ideal choice for annual events that include exhibitions in technology, music, industry, and more. Each season offers a little something different, from the International Firework Competition in the summer to Oktoberfest in the fall. Around the city are various areas that call for attention, many of which are popular with the many events that go on throughout the year. The large pedestrian area of Kröpcke attracts shoppers and diners and is the setting for the Opera house. With few pieces of history - like the Marienburg Castle - left behind, the Historical Museum is a treasure trove of information for those looking to dig into the city’s past. And for a day with nature, nothing can beat The Great Garden of Herrenhausen which also hosts The Small Festival.
