"You're not coming here for luxury. The Japanese styled tatami rooms are big and futons are comfortable, and there's a big public bath at the basement. But what's really amazing about this experience is the opportunity to witness an ancient fire ritual as part of the temple's morning prayers. Clean your soul and thoughts as you walk around this mountain full of different temples for different purposes. "

"The location of this ryokan is excellent - and the view from the rooms (and bath) is amazing! The host was really sweet - when she noticed my kids were older and may need more room - she upgraded us to a bigger room (as there was availability). Literally minutes away from the famous Hozenji! Amazing place! "

"This is a good value for the money. I paid about $350 more last year at a different roykan for a similar experience. What is seriously OVERLOOKED by the owners of this roykan and most of its visitors is the amazing temple built in 1400 just up the road. It's a bit of a hike. I think the roykan should offer rides up the hill to this big temple and connect itself as much as possible to make this a destination. This is all off the heavy tourist areas and a real back roads Japan area– I highly recommend staying here and asking for access (a ride) to the temple up the road. They may want you to call a taxi but it's worth pushing them to recognize the amazing temple the roykan can benefit from being so close to."
