Discover the neighborhoods of Kanyakumari

Located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, Kanyakumari is the southernmost tip of India, located at the convergence of the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and the Arabian Sea. The small town is often a day-trip destination for local in Kerala, although as a religiously-significant place it also sees a large number of international travelers throughout the year.

As the town is fairly small, motorized transportation should not be necessary and most of the sites can be covered on foot. It is home to the temple of the Goddess Kumari, from which the name of the town itself is derived and is a very important Hindu temple. Beyond the religious sites, Kanyakumari is also home to one of the most beautiful beaches in the country, Kanyakumari Beach. Kanyakumari beach is also the best place for watching the sunset or sunrise rather than crowding along with the other photographers in the Observation Tower.

The coastline is also home to the stunning church of Our Lady of Ransom, which features a spectacular Spanish-style architecture against the backdrop of the clear blue sky above and the expanse of the ocean beyond. It’s truly a spectacular sight, best observed from the outside or from the distance of the observation tower for a birds-eye view.

There’s much more to see and do in Kanyakumari, and the interactive map on this page is a great way to explore where the attractions and hotels can be found in this exciting city.
